This purge is a huge deal! I mean, who doesn't love a good shake-up in the military? But seriously, it's getting pretty concerning how much power Xi Jinping has over everyone else in China. It's like he's playing a game of musical chairs, but instead of chairs, it's people's careers and lives that are at stake.
I'm also loving how this is all about consolidation of power for Xi. Like, the dude is just taking down anyone who gets in his way, no matter what their position is. And it's not like they're even getting a fair shake-out – some of these guys have been out of commission for ages and suddenly they're being dragged back into the fray.
But what I find really interesting (and slightly disturbing) is how much this says about China's internal politics. Like, we know Xi Jinping is in charge, but it's wild to think that personal relationships are basically the currency of power in China right now. If you've got a connection with Xi, you're basically untouchable – and if not, you're toast.
Anyway, I'm keeping an eye on this situation. Can't wait to see how things play out at the Fourth Plenum!
