Ugh, I'm so over how many rom-coms are being pushed on us right now
. Like, can't we get some diversity in our TV shows? I mean, I know Bluey is great and all, but it's just a children's show with a cute same-sex relationship tacked on as an afterthought. And Emily in Paris is just so basic - I mean, who travels to France just for the romance?
And don't even get me started on the lack of representation. Where are the shows about single people over 30 who aren't trying to find love at all costs? Like, what about shows that actually feature complex characters with nuanced relationships? I feel like we're just being fed a constant stream of fluffy, simplistic rom-coms that don't reflect real life
.
I mean, can't we get some more Richard Curtis-esque comedies, but ones that actually subvert the genre's cliches and offer something new? Like, is it too much to ask for a show that makes me laugh without also making me roll my eyes in frustration?
