Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets in New York City, marking the start of a nationwide day of action against President Donald Trump. The No Kings protests, which are expected to sweep across the US, are the largest anti-Trump rallies since June when millions of people demonstrated peacefully.

Demonstrators gathered in Times Square, one of the city's most iconic landmarks, in a show of solidarity against what they see as Trump's authoritarianism. The event is part of a nationwide movement that aims to challenge Trump's rule and defend American democracy.

Trump has dismissed the protests, calling them "the hate America rally," but his critics say the president's behavior is exactly why people are taking to the streets. In an interview with Fox News, set to air on Sunday, Trump seemed to acknowledge the gathering, saying he was not a king.

Republican governors in several US states have placed National Guard troops on standby, but it remains unclear how visible the military presence will be at the protests. Some Democrats have denounced this move, arguing that it amounts to suppressing peaceful protests and undermining democracy.

Throughout Europe, protesters have also taken to the streets in cities such as Berlin, Madrid, and Rome to show solidarity with their American counterparts. Actor Robert De Niro has urged Americans to join in "non-violently raising our voices" against Trump's rule.

The No Kings protests are expected to continue across the country throughout the day, with many prominent celebrities including Jane Fonda, Kerry Washington, John Legend, Alan Cumming, and John Leguizamo attending rallies.

I think it's hilarious that Trump is trying to spin this as a "hate America rally" lol πŸ˜‚ he's basically admitting that he's a dictator who can't handle people disagreeing with him πŸ™„ the fact that he put the National Guard on standby just shows how scared he is of his own citizens πŸ˜… and I'm loving how all these celebrities are speaking out against him, it's about time someone in the entertainment industry used their platform for good πŸ’β€β™€οΈ this whole "No Kings" movement is so refreshing, we need more people standing up against authoritarianism πŸ‘‘

just saw this thread about no kings protests in NYC πŸ€” and gotta say, i'm shocked that it took so long for ppl to take a stand against trump's presidency πŸ™„. i remember when obama was getting into office and people were all like "oh great, another president". now we're dealing with a whole different situation 😱. i think its awesome that celebrities are using their platforms to speak out and raise awareness about the issues at hand πŸ‘. can't wait to see how this day of action plays out across the country πŸ—½οΈ. anyone else watching from afar?

OMG, can you imagine Trump being the king? Like, who needs that level of drama in their life? πŸ˜‚πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ I mean, seriously though, protests are a great way to express our opinions and stuff, but let's not forget, it's all about keeping it peaceful, ya know? 🀝 Don't wanna see any NYPD dudes getting roughed up, that'd be bad news πŸ’”. And btw, who needs the National Guard when we've got Robert De Niro giving us pep talks? 🎬πŸ’ͺ

I'm literally so proud of all these Americans standing up for what they believe in πŸ™ŒπŸ½πŸ‘Š! I mean, it's not always easy to speak out against someone in power, but it looks like the youth are taking a stand and that's amazing πŸ‘. Trump's behavior is getting more and more concerning by the day and it's about time people started pushing back πŸ’ͺ. The fact that Republican governors are putting National Guard troops on standby just shows how divided this country is πŸ€•. But you know what? I think we're seeing a real shift in attitudes towards democracy and speaking out for what's right πŸ‘. As a parent, it's so scary to see your kids grow up in a world where they have to fight for their rights, but at the same time, it's also kind of empowering 🀩. Can't wait to talk to my little ones about this and hear their thoughts πŸ’¬.

Man, this is insane 🀯! I've got my eyes on the live stream of the protest in Times Square and it's chaos! Thousands of people are out there fighting for their voices to be heard πŸ—£οΈ. And can you believe Trump thinks he can dismiss this? He's like "oh, I'm not a king" πŸ˜‚ like that changes anything! The dude is a president, not some benevolent ruler πŸ‘‘. I love how everyone's coming together across the globe for peace and democracy ❀️. Can't wait to see what happens next... maybe we'll even get some change πŸ”„

πŸ€” So, Trump thinks he can just dismiss a whole nation's dissent by calling it a "hate America rally" πŸ™„. Like that's gonna fly with the people who actually care about this country. Meanwhile, the National Guard is being deployed to suppress peaceful protests... because, you know, freedom and all that jazz. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

It's kinda cool that Europe is showing solidarity, btw. I mean, we Americans always brag about how great our democracy is, but when it comes down to it, we need a little nudge from our friends across the pond to get us moving πŸ˜‚.

The fact that Robert De Niro and all those other celebs are using their platforms to speak out against Trump's rule is definitely a good sign 🌟. Maybe it's time for some of these politicians to take a cue from them and stop being so... predictable πŸ™ƒ. Oh, and can we please just get some real news coverage that doesn't put words in Trump's mouth? πŸ“°πŸ‘€
