The $500 billion beauty industry's 'green' ambitions are a patchwork at best. And they're falling short

I feel kinda let down when I see companies trying to make themselves sound super eco-friendly but it's all just marketing speak . I get that sustainability is important to consumers, 60% of people are looking for that in a product! But it's hard to trust the claims when there's no standard way for brands to explain their ingredients or packaging materials .

It would be so helpful if there were some kind of certification system that all companies had to follow. Like, B Corp accreditation sounds like a good starting point . And yeah, governments should definitely get involved too - I mean, it's hard to make real change without some actual rules in place .

I've seen some brands doing okay with their sustainability efforts, but others are still using single-use plastics and stuff like that... it's just not fair to consumers who care about the planet . We need more consistency and transparency from the companies we trust .

I'm so over all these companies claiming they're "green" but just making a bunch of vague promises . It's like, I get it, we need to reduce plastic waste and stuff, but can't they just be honest about what they're doing? Like, if you use virgin plastics in your product, just say so instead of calling it "sustainable packaging" .

And don't even get me started on the lack of regulations . I mean, come on, companies need to have some accountability for their claims. If a company says its product is made from organic ingredients but can't provide proof, that's just greenwashing at its finest .

It's time for governments and multinationals to step in and set some standards . Until then, we'll just be left wondering if our "eco-friendly" purchases are actually doing any good .
