Russia detains suspect over St Petersburg cafe blast
Russian authorities have detained a suspect in connection to an explosion that ripped through a cafe in St Petersburg, causing widespread damage and injuring several people. The incident occurred on April 4, according to reports.
Details of the attack are still emerging, but officials say that it appears to be related to ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine. "The enemy is weakening and trying to cover up its failures with new fakes about the capture of Bakhmut," Oleksandr Syrskyi, commander of Ukrainian Land Forces, told Telegram users.
Russian forces have been engaged in a months-long effort to dislodge Ukrainian defenses in the Donetsk region. The General Staff said that more than 45 enemy attacks had been repelled over the past day, with the focus on Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Mariinka.
"We are taking some positions, we have taken a more strategic and favourable position," Oleksii Dmytrashkivskyi, spokesperson for the military in the Donetsk area, said. "The enemy is trying to attack our positions between Avdiivka and Marinka... The attempts do not stop."
It appears that Russian special forces had been introduced in the area. Pushilin claimed that after clearing Kamianka, units were moving further, but also noted difficulties due to terrain and weather conditions.
As tensions continue to escalate on both sides of the conflict, it remains unclear whether this incident was directly linked to the ongoing fighting between Russia and Ukraine.
