US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are set to meet again in two weeks' time in Hungary's capital, Budapest, marking the latest attempt to bring an end to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The high-stakes summit comes after a two-hour phone call between the two leaders, which has sparked renewed optimism among some that progress can be made on ending the war. However, with tensions still running high and both sides dug in their heels, it remains to be seen whether this meeting will ultimately yield concrete results.

At the center of all discussions is Ukraine's request for US military support, including long-range Tomahawk missiles. When questioned about the prospect of sending such missiles to Kyiv during a phone call with Putin on Thursday, Trump appeared to soften his earlier stance, stating that he needed the missiles for the US too and couldn't afford to deplete them.

However, in a move likely to ruffle Russian feathers, Trump had hinted at sending Tomahawks to Ukraine during an earlier conversation, sparking concerns among Kremlin officials and raising questions about the likelihood of such a supply being approved.

It remains unclear whether Kyiv will ultimately secure the missiles it so desperately needs to counterattack against Russian forces.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has warned that providing long-range systems like Tomahawk missiles would cause "colossal damage," while analysts point to the potential for the mere threat of sending them to keep Moscow in check.

The meeting with Putin is seen as a crucial test of Trump's diplomatic skills, and its outcome will likely have far-reaching implications for global security.

omg i'm so nervous but also kinda hopeful?? 💖🌟 like both sides gotta want peace rn or this whole situation just gets outta hand 🤯 how do u think trumps gonna pull off getting those tomahawks to uk without russia freaking out tho 🤔

I'm not sure how much faith I've got in these summits... like, I get that both sides want to stop the war, but have we learned nothing from previous meetings? We're always talking about progress, but it feels like we're just going through the motions. And Trump saying he needs those Tomahawk missiles for himself is just red flag after red flag 🚨🇺🇸 What's next, asking Putin to share his nuclear arsenal too? 😒

omg can't believe trump still hasn't made up his mind lol 🤯🇺🇸 anyway i think it's super concerning that he's saying the missiles are needed by us too like what even is that 🤑 and meanwhile ukrainians are literally losing their homes and lives over here... 🙅‍♂️ Putin's gotta be lovin' this though, all these delays just give him more time to consolidate his power 💪 but at the same time i guess it's good that trump's trying to mediate or whatever 🤷‍♀️ we'll see how this whole thing plays out 🎯

I'm so worried about Ukraine 🤕. I mean, can you imagine having to defend your country against an aggressive neighbor? It's just heartbreaking. And now, with Trump and Putin meeting again, it feels like we're stuck in this limbo where progress is hard to come by.

Trump saying they need the missiles for the US too is a bit sketchy 🤔. I mean, what exactly does that even mean? Are they going to send them to Ukraine's enemies or something? And what about those Tomahawks he hinted at sending earlier? Did he really think that was a good idea?

I'm just so tired of all these games being played on the global stage 🕹️. Can't we just talk things out and find some common ground already? It feels like we're stuck in this never-ending cycle of tension and mistrust.

And what about the impact on Kyiv? They need those missiles to counterattack against Russian forces, but will they even get them? It's all so frustrating 🤯. I just hope Trump and Putin can find a way to put aside their differences and work towards a peaceful solution. We're all watching from here 👀.

🤔 I don't think we're looking at this whole thing clearly enough... like, Trump was just trying to be pragmatic about it, ya know? He's not gonna give away the US military advantage for free, that's just smart politics. And let's be real, Putin's got some major leverage on Trump - he's basically saying "don't send me any missiles or I'll unleash hell" 🚀

And what's with all this concern about collateral damage? Like, we're talking about a war here... someone's gotta make some tough decisions. And I think Trump is trying to balance both sides' interests without making anyone feel like they're getting screwed over. It's not that simple, I get it, but come on... can't we just have a diplomatic conversation for once? 🤷‍♂️

I'm getting so anxious about this summit 🤯... if they actually get something done, it'll be a huge deal! But what's going on with those Tomahawk missiles? I mean, Trump's flip-flopped like crazy and now he's saying the US needs them too 🤑. It's all very confusing. The thought of Russia using them to "cause colossal damage" is super unsettling 😬... we need some solid security in Ukraine ASAP! 😒

OMG u gotta be kidding me!! 🤯 So now trump is trying 2 send tomahawks 2 Ukraine?? Like what even r the chances lol?? Putin's gonna freak out and Russia's gonna get all defensive... i'm low-key worried about this summit tbh 💔 I mean, don't get me wrong, trump seems like a cool guy and all, but come on, sending missiles 2 war zones? that's some serious drama right there 🤯 what's next? is he gonna send troops too? 🚫👊 I'm just hoping they can make something work out, cuz it would be so sick if they did 💥
