In this latest investigation, participants' sleep was restricted by 1. 5 hours per night for six weeks, resulting in weight gain, changes in appetite hormones, and reduced energy expenditure.

The study's design stands out for its focus on everyday people rather than lab rats. Ninety five participants were instructed to go to bed 1. 5 hours later than usual while keeping their wake up times the same.
