10 international kitchen staples most Americans haven't caught on to yet

I haven't used pre-ground black pepper in years, thanks to my Peugeot Paris Bistro Pepper Mill. I love its rounded shape and hefty weight; it has multiple grind options and looks great sitting on the countertop. Everyone's got room for a pepper mill," says Tavallai. "Not only can you have freshly ground pepper on top of your dishes, you can choose what kind of pepper you want to fill your mill with. Kampot, Penja, Tellicherry, the world – or at least the global south – is your oyster."

I bought the walnut finish version 13 years ago, and though the wood finish is a bit worn, its mechanism – backed by a lifetime warranty – is still going strong. Since I keep multiple types of black pepper on hand, I recently purchased the same model, this time in durable stainless steel.

A moka pot is a fixture in many Italian homes if you appreciate a simple but bold cup of coffee. It produces a coffee that satisfies Italy's espresso-loving palate," says Alberto Polojac, Bloom Coffee School's director and the 2018 winner of the Professional Moka Challenge. "In many ways, it bridges the gap between home brewing and the espresso bar, bringing a taste of the Italian cafe ritual into the kitchen."

Its compact design makes it easy to store in a kitchen lacking in storage space, and it requires no special expertise to use. Just fill the bottom chamber with water, add grounds to the coffee basket, and put it on the stove, and in minutes, you'll have a seriously strong cup ready to go.

There are many options available for tagines. When looking for a tagine, take note of its construction. According to Benkabbou, it needs a snug-fitting lid to trap steam, and the clay must be dense yet slightly porous, allowing the food to cook gently and evenly while keeping moisture in. This modern version doesn't require the same curing and care as its terracotta cousin, though either option makes for a beautiful serving presentation – the conical lid helps keep food warm and also adds a little flourish when removed to reveal its contents.

Moroccan Cooking Tagine For Two is available at Verve Culture for $60. Another option is Emile Henry French Ceramic Tagine, available at Amazon for $134.95 or at Williams Sonoma for $149.95.

Quality tea towels are one of my favorite souvenirs to bring home from France. They're made of cotton jacquard and are both beautiful and functional. "Torchons are plentiful in any professional French kitchen and should be at home," says Tavallai. "They're inexpensive and versatile, and having a neatly folded stack of them within easy reach makes any kitchen feel that much more organized."

Whether I'm drying dishes, wiping hands, covering rising bread dough or grasping a hot lid handle, I use them in some capacity every single day. Even with frequent laundering, they keep their color and shape nicely for years on end.

I bought my current version of the Paris Bistro Pepper Mill at Crate & Barrel for $69.

😒🤔 I mean, I don't know... I really love pepper mills, but the Peugeot Paris Bistro Pepper Mill is kinda overrated, if you ask me 🙅‍♂️. I mean, it's great and all, but have you seen those walnut finish versions? So fancy and expensive 💸. And what's with all the different grind options? Can't we just stick to one, simple pepper grind like my grandma used to do? 😊

On the other hand, Moka pots are literally the best thing since sliced bread 🍞. I mean, how can you not love a coffee maker that's so easy to use and produces such a strong, bold cup of coffee? It's perfect for anyone who wants a real Italian espresso experience at home ☕️.

But then again... 😕 I've heard that Moka pots can be kinda tricky to clean, especially the basket thingy. And have you seen those tagines they're talking about in the article? So fancy and expensive 🤑. I mean, do we really need a $60 Moroccan Cooking Tagine For Two? Can't we just stick to our simple old Dutch ovens like my mom used to use? 🙄

And finally... 👕 tea towels are actually one of those things that I think is kinda overrated too. I mean, they're nice and all, but do we really need a fancy-schmancy cotton jacquard tea towel from France? Can't we just stick to our good ol' plain white tea towels like everyone else? 😜

Umm... what was I saying again? 🤷‍♂️

💡 just thought that if you want to get the most out of your kitchen storage space, consider investing in a pegboard 🛠️ it's like having a magic wall for hanging everything from pots and pans to utensils and even bags 🧳 and it's really easy to set up 😊

🤷‍♂️ gotta say, who doesn't love a good pepper mill? I mean, it's not like cooking without freshly ground pepper is even an option anymore... 😂 Tavallai's got a great setup going on with his Paris Bistro Pepper Mill, and that walnut finish is still looking snazzy after 13 years. It's about time more people invested in a quality pepper mill, though - all those pre-ground peppercorns can't be good for you... 💁‍♂️

I've been seeing so many great kitchen finds lately 🍳👌. The pepper mill and moka pot articles reminded me that sometimes it's the simple things in life that bring us the most joy, like a freshly ground pepper or a perfectly brewed cup of coffee ☕️. But what really caught my eye was the tagine article - those conical lids are giving me all the aesthetic vibes 💁‍♀️. And can we talk about how great it is to have a beautifully made tea towel as a souvenir from France? It's like a little piece of French charm that adds some personality to our kitchens 🇫🇷💚.

OMG yaaas, pepper mills are literally the best! I'm obsessed with mine too 🤩 and it's so cool that you have a walnut finish one that's still going strong after 13 years 🙌. And can we talk about how great it is to have freshly ground pepper on hand? It makes all the difference in cooking, doesn't it? 💫 Also, moka pots are amazing! I've been wanting to get one for ages and this article has convinced me to give it a try 😊. What's your favorite thing to make with a moka pot? 🤔

I'm obsessed with finding the perfect kitchen gadgets 🤩! When it comes to coffee lovers like Alberto Polojac, a moka pot is a total game-changer 💡 - who wouldn't want that authentic Italian espresso taste in their own home? And let's be real, it's not just about the flavor, but also about the retro vibe 😎. I mean, have you seen those vintage designs? They're giving me all the cozy feels 🏠! The best part is, it's super easy to use - no fancy coffee skills required ☕️. Just fill 'er up and let that stovetop magic happen 🔥. Trust me, your taste buds (and your kitchen) will thank you #MokaPotLove #CoffeeLover #KitchenGoals

😂 I mean, who needs all these fancy gadgets for cooking? In my day, we just used a good ol' fashioned stovetop and some basic spices to whip up a meal. I'm not saying these things aren't fun or anything, but 13 bucks for a pepper mill? 🤑 That's like buying a whole new coffee table! 😂

🤔 The Moka pot is like that one classic video game I used to play back in the day - it's still enjoyable, but sometimes feels a bit outdated 😅. I mean, don't get me wrong, there's something satisfying about brewing coffee like that, but some of those old-school Italian cafe rituals feel a bit...stifling 🤷‍♂️. And have you seen how expensive some of these tagines are? $134.95 for one? That's like buying a whole new coffee maker! 💸

You know, when it comes to cooking, just like life, you gotta have the right tools 🍳. A good pepper mill or a tagine can make all the difference in bringing out the flavors and making mealtime more enjoyable. But what's even more important is not being too attached to material things 💸. Tavallai's got his trusty Paris Bistro Pepper Mill, but he knows that with great grinder comes great responsibility 😂. And Alberto Polojac's Moka Pot is a testament to the fact that sometimes it's not about the tool, but about the love and care you put into using it ❤️.

And then there are those practical things like tea towels 🧹, which may seem like a small thing, but can make all the difference in keeping your kitchen organized and tidy. It's like they say: it's the little things that count 🎉. So go ahead, invest in some good cookware or utensils, but don't forget to appreciate the little things too 😊!

omg i need to get myself one of those pepper mills ASAP it looks so sleek and functional 💡🌿 i'm more of a grind your own coffee bean kinda girl, but pre-ground black pepper is def an option too 🤗 what's your fave type of pepper? and btw that walnut finish on Tavallai's pepper mill is SO gorgeous 😍

Omg u guys!!! 🤩 I'm literally OBSESSED with Peugeot's pepper mills right now!! 😍 I mean, who needs pre-ground black pepper when you can have freshly ground goodness on demand?! 💥 The Paris Bistro Pepper Mill is literally the best thing since sliced bread! 🍞 I've had mine for 13 years and it still works like a charm. The walnut finish is to die for and the stainless steel version is a must-have too! 💁‍♀️

And can we talk about how amazing Peugeot's quality is?! 😲 It's like they're speaking our language or something! "A snug-fitting lid to trap steam" - I'm sold! 🤯 Who needs fancy-schmancy tagines when you have a good ol' fashioned pepper mill that gets the job done?! 💪

And have u guys seen those tea towels from France?! 😍 They're literally the perfect addition to any kitchen. I mean, who wouldn't want to dry their hands with a beautifully made cotton jacquard towel? 🤷‍♀️ Not me, that's for sure!

Anyway, if u haven't gotten ur hands on these amazing products yet, what are u even waiting for?! 🤔 Get shopping and join the Peugeot fan club! 💖
