Apple Watch Ultra 3 review: the biggest and best smartwatch for an iPhone

The Apple Watch Ultra 3 has arrived, boasting a whopping 49mm case size, a bigger screen with smaller bezels, and a host of new features that make it the biggest, baddest, and best smartwatch in the Apple lineup.

This behemoth watch comes at a hefty price tag of £749 (€899/$799/A$1,399), which is more than its predecessor by £50, but less expensive than some adventure watches from brands like Garmin.

One of the standout features of the Ultra 3 is its massive display, which is brighter when viewed at an angle and shows ticking seconds when idle. The screen is also covered in super-hard sapphire glass for added durability.

Under the hood, the Ultra 3 packs Apple's S10 chip, which provides a solid performance boost compared to the Series 11. It also features excellent touch-free gestures, allowing you to press buttons or scroll with just a double tap of your thumb and index finger, or dismiss alarms and notifications by flicking your wrist.

The Ultra 3 boasts an impressive three-day battery life when tracking running at its highest accuracy levels, which is a significant upgrade over previous models. It also features Apple's new Workout Buddy AI coach, which provides personalized training advice via Bluetooth headphones.

But what truly sets the Ultra 3 apart is its rugged yet sophisticated design, with a 100-metre water resistance and 40-metre dive-ready feature that makes it perfect for those who enjoy spending time in or near the water.

The Apple Watch Ultra 3 also comes with more than 40% recycled material, including cobalt, copper, gold, lithium, rare earth elements, steel, titanium, and tungsten.

Overall, the Ultra 3 is a top-notch smartwatch that offers an unbeatable blend of style, substance, and performance. While it may not offer a massive leap over previous models, its added battery life, bigger screen, and new features make it an excellent choice for those who want the best Apple Watch experience.

I mean, I'm loving the new Ultra 3 design 🤯! The bigger screen is gonna be so sick for gaming and watching videos on my wrist 😎. And I'm all about that recycled material vibe - 40% of it comes from sustainable sources? That's fire 🔥! Plus, with the Workout Buddy AI coach and Apple's S10 chip, I know this thing's gonna keep up with me during those tough workouts 💪. The three-day battery life is also a major win 📈. £749 might be steep, but if it delivers on all these promises, I say go for it 💯!

I'm soooo hyped about the new Apple Watch Ultra 3!!! 🤩 The size is insane, I mean who needs that much space on their wrist?! 😂 But seriously, £749 is a bit steep even for me... I'd love to splurge but I need to be practical too 🤑. What's got me most excited though is the new Workout Buddy AI coach - I've been meaning to get back into running and this sounds like just what I need 💪! And can we talk about how eco-friendly it is? Over 40% recycled material?! That's what I call a win for our planet 🌎👏 The screen is also so bright, I'm imagining using it while hiking or biking 🏞️. But the price... ugh, I'll just have to live vicariously through you, fellow tech enthusiasts 💸

OMG 🤯 just saw the new Apple Watch Ultra 3 and I'm OBSESSED 💖 the 49mm case size is SO big 🤪 but in a good way? i mean, who needs a watch that's not going to get lost on their wrist, right? 😂 and the screen is like wow 🔥 it shows ticking seconds when it's idle, which is kinda cool, i guess... anyway, £749 is a pretty penny 💸 but if you're gonna splurge, make sure it's this one, lol 👀

I don’t usually comment but I gotta say, £749 is kinda steep even for a watch this fancy 🤯💸. I mean, I get that it's made with recycled materials and all that jazz, but still... some people might be able to buy a whole bunch of regular Apple Watches for that price 🤷‍♂️. Don’t get me wrong, the Ultra 3 sounds like a beast of a watch, but I think most people wouldn’t need its extreme features 😅. On the other hand, if you're an avid runner or love spending time near water, then it's probably worth every penny 💸. Not sure who this watch is for, tbh 🤔

😎 I gotta say, £749 is still waaay too steep for me 🤑 But I can see why they'd go for this size and design if you're into that whole "adventure watch" vibe 🏞️ 49mm is HUGE btw! 🤯 Battery life tho? 📊 3-day tracker time is a solid upgrade from the previous gen. 💪 What I don't get is how much recycled material they've used - like, that's some serious eco-friendliness 👍 Did you know, though, that Apple's S10 chip now uses 5nm technology? That's like, super fast 🔥 Performance-wise, it's gonna be a wild ride! 🚀

🤔 I'm loving the new design on this watch! The sapphire glass is a game-changer, so no worries about scratches or cracks 😊. But, £749? 🤑 That's a pretty penny to pay for any smartwatch, even one as cool as the Ultra 3. What really gets me excited though, is that Apple's made some real efforts to make it more sustainable - over 40% recycled materials, yeah! 👏

the price is still kinda steep, but i guess £50 more than last year isn't too bad considering how much better this thing is overall 🤑... i mean, 40% recycled material is pretty cool tho! and that sapphire glass is a game changer - no more scratched screens for me 💯. but you know what's even crazier? it's only £50 more than the previous model, which was already £699! so if you want the latest and greatest, you're basically getting a new watch every year 😂... still love the design tho, looks super rugged and sleek at the same time 👍
