At least four people were shot in the chaos that unfolded near Howard University in Washington D.C. over the weekend. Thousands of students flocked to the campus for homecoming celebrations, which were marred by violence.

According to officials, police responded to shots being fired at 8:23 pm on the 600 block of Howard Place. The area around the university's Yard and School of Architecture building was quickly cordoned off as authorities scrambled to contain the situation.

As it stands, one person remains in critical condition while another is in serious condition. However, police have not confirmed whether a suspect or suspects were taken into custody during the investigation.

Eyewitnesses reported that seven people were treated for injuries, with four of those individuals having been shot. The severity of the incident has left many wondering if it was an accident or something more sinister.

The homecoming celebrations, which kicked off last weekend and continue through Sunday, featured several events including a Homecoming Kick Off and Greek Step Show. However, Friday evening's festivities took a deadly turn, leaving the community reeling in shock.

While police have confirmed that the scene is secure, traffic has been disrupted as officers work to investigate the incident further. The road closures have caused congestion in the area, but officials are urging calm as they continue to gather evidence and piece together what happened.
