BBC showing tennis's new Battle of the Sexes will just offer up opportunity to belittle women's sport | Barney Ronay

omg u guys i cant even... its soooo frustrating 2 c the bbc goin 4 this kinda stunt again 🙄 like, who decides these things?! theyre tryin 2 boost interest in womens tennis but really its just exploitin the drama & controversy around kyrgios 🤦‍♀️ meanwhile sabalenka is just tryna play tennis 🎾 and be taken seriously. dont even get me started on the whole "battle of the sexes" vibe... its just so cheesy 💁‍♀️ and annoying. can we pls just promote womens sport for its own sake 4 a change? 🙏

I think the BBC needs to rethink their approach to promoting women's sports, especially when it comes to creating drama and controversy. The fact that they're billing this match as a "Battle of the Sexes" style event feels like a huge mistake 🙅‍♂️. It's not just about the commentary team or the court size - it's about perpetuating stereotypes and division between men's and women's sports. We should be celebrating talented female athletes like Sabalenka, not pitting them against "toxic" male opponents like Kyrgios 😒. And let's be real, if the BBC wants to promote women's tennis, they need to focus on quality over clickbait 📺.

can you believe the bbc is doing this? they're all about profit over sportsmanship 🤑 i mean, who cares if it's just another sexist tournament? we should be supporting women's sport, not exploiting them for clickbait. nick kyrgios is a total tool, no need to justify his behavior but let's focus on aryna sabalenka, she's an amazing player and deserves way more respect than this 🤩 the whole "battle of the sexes" thing just feels like a lazy marketing ploy to me 📺

🤔 i think the bbc's decision to make a big deal about the match is kinda weird... like, why do they need to highlight the contrast between kyrgios' bad boy image and sabalenka's nice girl persona? can't they just focus on the tennis itself? 🎾 it's not like women's sport needs gimmicks to be interesting, but rather some decent commentary and analysis. plus, isn't it kinda sexist to portray sabalenka as the "angel" while kyrgios is the "bad boy"? shouldn't we just treat them equally? 🤷‍♀️

🤔 This "Battle of the Sexes" thing is just another example of how men's sports always get more attention, you know? Like, we're still talking about Kyrgios' bad behavior like 10 years ago, but Sabalenka's a great player and she deserves more credit than this. The BBC's just trying to sell papers and get clicks, it's all about the ratings 📊. And what really gets me is that they're not even giving her a fair chance - that smaller court thing is just cherry-picked, you feel? It's like they're saying "oh, look, she's still not good enough to play on an equal playing field". 💁‍♀️
