Chelsea searches for new manager as Premier League breaks record for most sackings in a single season | CNN

Chelsea's Premier League Season Hits New Low as Graham Potter Sacked | CNN

Chelsea's season took another dramatic turn this weekend when the club announced that it had parted ways with manager Graham Potter. The decision comes just six months after Potter was appointed to replace Thomas Tuchel, who went on to lead the team to the Champions League title in 2021.

Potter's tenure at Chelsea has been marked by a series of poor results, with the team struggling to find consistency and cohesion under his guidance. Despite investing over $600 million in new players, Potter was unable to get the best out of them, and the team's performance on the pitch reflected this.

The club's new ownership group, led by American businessman Todd Boehly, had high expectations for Potter, but it seems they were not met. In a statement, Boehly and co-owner Behdad Eghbali thanked Potter for his services to the club, saying that they have "the highest degree of respect" for him as a coach and person.

Potter's departure is a significant blow to Chelsea, which has now been sacked its manager for the 12th time this season. The previous record for most sackings in a single season was set in 2017/18, when there were 10 manager changes.

Despite Potter's dismissal, Chelsea still has plenty to play for in the remaining games of the season, including a crucial Champions League quarterfinal against Real Madrid. Assistant coach Bruno Saltor will take over on an interim basis until a new manager is appointed.

The sacking of Potter is a stark reminder of just how transient managers can be in the top-flight of English football, especially when results aren't instantaneous. It's also another sign that the Premier League is witnessing a record-breaking season for manager changes, with 12 sackings so far this season – a number that could potentially break the previous record later in the year.

For Potter, who had previously enjoyed success as Brighton manager, the departure from Chelsea will be a significant blow to his career. He leaves behind a team that has lost its momentum and cohesion under his guidance, and it remains to be seen whether he can turn things around at another club.

😔 Man, 12 sackings in one season is crazy! I feel bad for Graham Potter, he got a raw deal. Chelsea's new owners must've been expecting a lot more from him, but sometimes you just gotta give the guy some time to sort out his team. It's not like he didn't have talent at his disposal... 🤷‍♂️ They're gonna need to figure out what went wrong and find someone who can bring that consistency they're looking for. 💡

man this is wild 🤯 chelsea's season just keeps getting worse and worse... Graham Potter's gotta do something right for 600 million dollars lol no seriously though, it's crazy how quickly managers get sacked in the prem if they're not bringing home wins. Todd Boehly & co should've seen this coming though, new ownership group can't just expect instant success 🤑 anyway, hope Bruno Saltor does a good job on an interim basis, and maybe Graham Potter finds his footing elsewhere 🤞

omg this is crazy!! 12 sackings already?? 🤯 the premier league is like a managerial merry go round 🎠 i feel bad for potter though, he had some decent results but consistency is key and it seems chelsea just cant get it right rn 😔 still gotta keep an eye on them tho, they got that real madrid matchup coming up 👀

man this is crazy what's goin on with chelsea rn they just sacked graham potter like 6 months after he took over 🤯 he invested all that $$$ in new players but still couldn't get it together 🤑 meanwhile todd boehly and behdad egHBali are just sittin there lookin all proud of themselves for makin that decision 👀 what's the point of even havin a manager if u r just gonna change him every 6 months? 🤷‍♂️

man... chelsea's season is just getting worse 🤕 i mean, $600m spent on new players and they're still struggling? it's like they're trying to break some sort of record for most transfers in a year 😂 anyway, potter's departure is a big blow, but let's be real, it's not the end of the world. assistant coach bruno saltor will probably do okay on an interim basis 🤞 and who knows, maybe they'll turn it around after the summer transfer window 🌞

omg, chelsea is like the football version of my aunt's love life - all the managers come in, think they're gonna make a change, but eventually just leave 😂🏆 600 million dollars and they still can't get it right? that's like me spending that much on pizza and still eating cereal for dinner 🍕🥐 gotta wonder what todd boehly and behdad eghbali are thinking, always changing managers like a pair of shoes that don't fit 👠👖 anyway, bruno saltor is the man to save chelsea now 🙏⚽

Ugh, this is getting crazy! 🤯 I mean, 12 manager changes already? That's just ridiculous. It's like the club can't even get a decent run going, you know? 🙄 They invested so much money in new players and still can't seem to get it together. Graham Potter was actually doing okay at Brighton, I guess he got in over his head here... 🤷‍♂️ The fact that he only lasted 6 months is wild, what's going on with this club? 😂 And now they've got to find a new manager to try and turn things around, it's just gonna be one of those long seasons, I can feel it... 👎

Ugh, this is getting worse by the day 🤯... just when you think the Premier League season can't get any more chaotic, Chelsea goes and sacks their manager for the 12th time already... 😱 what's going on with these teams? Six months ago they appointed Graham Potter to sort out their act, but now he's gone and another one has taken over... it's like a merry-go-round of managers 🎠. The players are all just confused looks at each other, the fans are frustrated, and the season is just going downhill 🤦‍♂️... Chelsea still has games to play but I've got zero confidence they can turn this around 💔

I'm shocked they sacked Potter already 🤯. I mean, 6 months is not even a full season, you know? It's like they expected him to fix everything overnight 💥. And $600 million in new players and still they struggle? That's some weird math 🔮. Boehly and Eghbali are super polite about it too, but can't just sugarcoat the truth 🤔. 12 manager sackings already? Is this really what we're witnessing? The Premier League is like a hot mess 💁‍♀️

Ugh, not surprised 🙄. Another season, another manager sacked 💸. Like, what's the point of having all those millions if you're just gonna change coaches every few months? 😒 And poor Potter, who gets stuck with the mess left behind by Tuchel 🤦‍♂️. Maybe he should've brought some stability to the team instead of trying to revamp them like a fancy new iPhone upgrade 📱. Still, you gotta wonder what Boehly and Eghbali were thinking 💭... "Hey, let's give this guy a 6-month shot! We'll just change our minds when things get tough." 🤣

omg did u hear about chelsea's new owner todd boehly?? i heard he's like a billionaire or something 🤑👀 i wonder if he'll fix the team's problem or just spend more money on players 🤔 and btw what's with all these manager changes in the premier league? it feels like no one can keep their job for more than 6 months 😂🏆 did u watch any of the games this season? who do u think will win the champions league?? 🎉

I don’t usually comment but... I feel bad for Graham Potter, you know? He had such high hopes with the new ownership group and all the cash they poured into the team 🤑. But at the end of the day, results are what matter and it just wasn't happening for him. 12 sackings in one season is crazy 💥, I mean, what's going on with these top teams? Can't they just keep a manager for more than like 6 months?! 😂 Potter's got some decent track record elsewhere so I hope he bounces back from this 💪. The fans at Chelsea must be devastated, too 🤕.

I'm so done with this season already 😩💔. Graham Potter's departure is just the latest in a long line of poor decisions by Chelsea FC. It's like they're throwing money at the problem without even trying to fix it on the pitch 🤑🏆. 600 million and still struggling? I don't get it 🤷‍♂️. Either way, this might be an opportunity for Potter to regroup and come back stronger next season 🔥. Can't wait to see what happens with Bruno Saltor taking over as interim coach 👊.

🤔 OMG, 12 sackings in one season? That's just crazy! I feel bad for Potter, he got sacked after only 6 months 🤕. The new ownership group must've been expecting way more from him, especially with that massive $600m investment 💸. It's like they thought overnight magic would happen or something 😂. Chelsea's performance has been all over the place this season, it's not just Potter's fault, it's a team effort kinda thing 🤝. But still, it's sad to see another manager go... 🌧️

man this is crazy like they just invested 600 million on new players and what do they get? a bunch of losses and nothing going right 😂👎 potter got screwed by the new owners i feel for the guy, he was trying his best but it's clear that the team wasn't with him. the premier league is getting wild this season, 12 sackings already? that's insane 🤯

🤔 I'm so over these manager sacking sprees in the Premier League 🙄. Like, what's up with all these constant changes? Can't a team just find its groove for once? 😩 Chelsea's season has been such a disaster, and now they're already sacking Potter after six months? 💔 It's like they didn't even give him a chance to turn things around 🤷‍♂️. And another thing, what's with all the money being spent on new players if it's not going to translate to wins? 😒 The league is literally witnessing a record-breaking season for manager changes, and I'm just over here thinking... what's the point of any of this? 🤷‍♂️

awww poor graham potter 🤕😔 this is so sad for him, one minute he's managing chelsea, the next he's sacked lol what can you do right?! 😂 but seriously, his sacking is a reminder that in football, you've got to perform under pressure & it looks like chelsea just didn't click with him 🤷‍♂️ still, he's got so much experience & knows how to manage teams, fingers crossed for him! 💪

man.. chelsea's season is just getting worse 🤦‍♂️ they're already playing like complete rubbish and now graham potter gets the axe 🚫 it's just crazy how many times a manager gets sacked in one season... 12 times already? that's wild 🌪️

anyway, i feel bad for potter tho 🤗 he was trying his best but things just didn't work out at chelsea. hopefully he can bounce back from this and get another job soon 💯

but seriously, it's a stark reminder of how much pressure managers are under in the premier league 🙈 especially when you're not getting the results you want... it's not easy being a manager, that's for sure 😩

😒 This is just another example of how quickly managers get sacked in the Premier League. $600 million worth of new players and they still can't get it right? 🤔 I mean, what's the point of investing so much money if you're not gonna see any results on the pitch? It's just crazy. 🙄 And now Graham Potter is another manager who's lost his job after six months in charge... 12 sackings this season already? 😂 That's a record, no question. But seriously, how do these owners expect their managers to turn things around in such a short time? 💸
