Aaron Phypers, estranged husband of actress Denise Richards, has been slapped with multiple felony charges after a volatile courtroom arrest on Friday. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department arrested Phypers at the courthouse as he was taken into custody.
Phypers is now facing four felony counts: two for allegedly injuring his spouse and two for dissuading witnesses by force or threat. To secure his release, he posted $200,000 in bail.
On Friday, Phypers was visibly agitated during a court appearance where sheriff’s deputies escorted him from the courtroom after an argument. As he was led out of the building on an escalator, officials reported that Phypers was seen arguing with officers.
Richards had previously alleged Phypers committed physical and emotional abuse against her. According to documents filed in July, Richards testified about multiple incidents of intimidation, including allegations that Phypers stole her laptop, hacked into her phone, and shared intimate photos online without her consent.
Richards described the violent abuse she endured from Phypers, including being choked, slapped, and threatened with death. She also claimed he had damaged a drain at their home by hitting her face while they were arguing.
Phypers denies Richards' allegations, stating that all claims are untrue and intended to damage his reputation. The ex-husband of "Wild Things" star and Richards filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences in July, seeking spousal support from the actress.
