Hegseth won't commit to releasing video of second strike on alleged drug boat: "We are reviewing it right now"

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has declined to commit to releasing video footage of a second missile strike on an alleged drug boat in the Caribbean, citing "responsibility" as the reason. When questioned about the release of the video during a Q&A session after a defense forum, Hegseth said, "We're reviewing the process, and we'll see." This statement suggests that the Pentagon is still assessing whether to make the footage public.

The incident occurred on September 2, when an initial missile strike killed eleven people, prompting criticism from the Trump administration. Subsequent reports revealed that a second missile was launched, killing two survivors who were attempting to climb back onto their boat. Hegseth has denied that he ordered the second strike, claiming that Navy Admiral Frank "Mitch" Bradley, the head of Special Operations Command, made the decision.

However, sources familiar with the matter have disputed this account, saying that Bradley told lawmakers that he was not instructed to leave any survivors alive. Congressional lawmakers were shown the footage and briefed on the incident by Bradley and General Dan Caine in a closed-door session.

Hegseth's handling of the situation has raised concerns about potential war crimes. Some experts believe that the second strike may have violated international law, as it appears to have targeted individuals attempting to escape. The Pentagon's decision not to release the full footage has further fueled controversy surrounding the incident.

President Trump has expressed support for releasing all available footage from the September 2 strikes but has stopped short of committing to make the video public.

idk about this defense sec pete hegseth and his "responsibility" excuse... sounds like he's trying to cover something up ๐Ÿค”. the thing is, if there was a second missile strike that killed two survivors trying to escape, doesn't that kinda sound like war crimes? ๐Ÿšซ i'm not saying pete hegseth did anything wrong or intentionally tried to kill anyone, but it does seem suspicious that he's being super secretive about it.

and what's up with the video footage?! isn't that supposed to be public info now? ๐Ÿคฏ president trump is pushing for release, so i guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens next. i'm kinda curious to know what really went down on that day in september... maybe someone will come forward with some answers soon? ๐Ÿคž

I don't think it's fair on Pete Hegseth to be under so much scrutiny over this. I mean, we're already dealing with enough stuff as parents trying to keep our kids safe online and in the world, and then you get news about military strikes that can be really confusing for people. ๐Ÿค”

I get why he doesn't want to release the footage - it's not like he's the one who made the decision to launch the missiles. But at the same time, I think it would have been nice if someone had just come out and said "look, we're still figuring this out" instead of saying they were "reviewing the process". ๐Ÿ™„

As a parent, it makes me really anxious when there are all these grey areas like this. You want to know what's going on in the world, but sometimes you don't have all the answers and that can be really scary for people who are already worried about their kids' safety. ๐Ÿ’”

๐Ÿค” I don't get why they're being so secretive about this... like, if it was a real war crime then shouldn't we know what happened? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ The fact that they're saying "we're reviewing" just sounds like an excuse to me... ๐Ÿ™„

I'm getting a bad vibe from this whole thing ๐Ÿค”. I mean, on one hand, I get why they don't wanna release the footage - it's not pretty and could escalate tensions unnecessarily. But at the same time, it feels like the Pentagon is trying to cover something up, you know? The whole "responsibility" thing just seems like a fancy way of saying "we're scared of what we did". And with all these experts weighing in that the second strike might've been a war crime... man, I don't think they should be so secretive about this. It's time to get some transparency and accountability here ๐Ÿ‘€.

๐Ÿšจ๐ŸŒช๏ธ another dodgy thing comes outta the Pentagon... so they're sayin' no vid, just reviewin' the process ๐Ÿค”. sounds like they don't wanna show us what really went down on that boat ๐Ÿšฃโ€โ™€๏ธ, especially since it's alleged to have targeted people tryin' to escape โš ๏ธ. what's the story w/ this Admiral Bradley, anyway? say he told lawmakers he wasnt supposed 2 leave anyone alive ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. and now Hegseth's just playin' dumb ๐Ÿ˜’, sayin' responsibility is the reason they ain't release the footage ๐Ÿ“. war crimes worry me, fam ๐Ÿ‘Ž

Wow! ๐Ÿคฏ This whole thing is super shady, you know? I mean, one minute they're claiming it was an accident and the next they're saying they're reviewing it... what's going on? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ And all these questions about war crimes and international law... it feels like we're being kept in the dark. Interesting! ๐Ÿค”

I just had the craziest thought while reading this... have you ever noticed how some coffee shops have those little paper cups with a fun design on them? Like, what's up with that? Are they trying to distract us from the fact that we're basically paying $5 for water in a cup ๐Ÿค”. And don't even get me started on the straw situation... should we be using straws at all? I mean, I know some people have weird dental issues and all that jazz, but can't we just use our hands like normal humans?! ๐Ÿ˜‚. Anyway, back to this defense sec thingy... what's the deal with war crimes again? Shouldn't there be, like, clearer guidelines on stuff like this? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

๐Ÿค” this is so weird, they're playing with fire over here. I don't get why Pete Hegseth is being so secretive about it... like, what's he hiding? It's not like it's gonna bring down the whole government or something ๐Ÿ˜‚. And now there's all these questions about war crimes and international law... this is getting serious ๐Ÿšจ. I think they should just release the footage already, you know? It's only fair to the public that we get some answers on what really went down ๐Ÿ’ก. And why are people still trying to spin this story like it was one guy's decision versus a whole chain of events? Come on, let's be real ๐Ÿ™„.
