Two hikers who were rescued after becoming lost on England's highest mountain during a treacherous winter storm are under fire for stiffing a hotel they stayed at overnight despite receiving free accommodations and food.
The Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team, which spent seven hours searching for the two men, claimed that after their safe rescue on December 29th, they were given a discounted room rate of $35 by the manager of the Wasdale Head Inn for the night, but left without paying their bill. The team felt compelled to pay it for them as per their usual practices.
However, when the hikers offered no thanks for the rescue efforts and asked for further reductions on the cost, they appeared to be taking advantage of the hospitality provided by the inn. They also failed to return a crutch that one of the men had left in a team vehicle during the rescue, and the phone number given to the manager was found to be non-functional.
The Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team expressed their disappointment and surprise at the hikers' behavior, stating that it was not typical for rescued individuals to behave selfishly. Despite this incident, the inn's staff appreciated the team's professionalism in handling the situation and thanked them for their kindness towards the stranded walkers.
