Jess Cartner-Morley on fashion: 'tis the season to party. Time to recap Christmas dressing rules

Christmas is Upon Us - Party on, People!

The festive season has officially kicked off, but before you get caught up in the merriment, don't forget about the dos and don'ts of dressing for Christmas. It's an alternate universe where party attire is a must, even if that's not your style.

Rather than trying to blend into the background, it's better to make a statement and show that you're ready to party. Wearing something that screams "party" sets a different tone, making you more approachable and fun to be around. This approach not only makes parties more enjoyable but also allows for a graceful exit if you're feeling overwhelmed.

Fast-forwarding past outdated rules like showing too much skin or hiding it all, the new etiquette is about sustainability and individuality. Vintages stores and repurposing your own wardrobe pieces are now seen as flexes in fashion. And when attending someone's home party, be aware that shoes-off rules may apply, so go for socks that complement your outfit.

The ultimate rule of thumb? Dress up by 30% to ensure you fit in with the festive atmosphere. No need to break the bank or wear extravagant outfits; just add a dash of flair with fashion sprinkles like bold accessories, statement tights, and eye-catching colors. Break out those sparkly socks or go for sheer tights - it's time to party!

I'm so over this Christmas party dress code thing 🙄... who thought it was a good idea that you have to "dress up" by 30% just to fit in? Like, can't we all just wear whatever makes us happy and not worry about being the "center of attention"? And don't even get me started on vintages stores and repurposing our old clothes... isn't that just called "sustainability" or something basic 😊. I mean, I'm all for expressing ourselves through fashion, but can we please just keep it simple?

🎄 I'm low-key excited for Christmas but also kinda stressed about dressing the part 🤯. The article seems right on point tho, embracing individuality & sustainability over trying too hard to fit in. Those vintages stores are a lifesaver, and repurposing old faves is such a great way to add flair without breaking the bank 💸. Can't wait to see some fun party outfits popping up this season 🎉!

ugh, parties are getting too extra 🤪... and don't even get me started on the "dos and donts" articles that come with them. can't we just have a chill vibe without having to read 500 words about what shoes to wear? also, "dress up by 30%" is kinda arbitrary. like, can i really tell if someone's "fitting in" or just trying way too hard? and another thing, why do we need to be told that sustainability is now a "flex"? isn't it just common sense to reduce waste and reuse old clothes? 🙄

omg I'm loving this new christmas vibe 🎅🏼🎄 its so different from back in 2019 when we were all about the minimalistic look and low-key festive vibes, now its all about making a statement with your outfit 👗💃 and being sustainable too, idk about shoes-off rules tho, can u imagine wearing socks at someone's house lol 🤣

omg I'm so down for this festive season 🎅♂️🕺...the key is just to have fun with your outfit, you don't need to wear a whole new wardrobe lol. I mean, who am I kidding, sometimes those statement tights are all we need 😂. But seriously, sustainability and individuality in fashion? That's something I can get behind, it's like, don't follow the rules, just express yourself! 💖
