Kwame Brathwaite, photographer of ‘Black is Beautiful’ movement, dies at 85 | CNN

😔 just found out about Kwame Brathwaite passing away at 85 🙏 his work was so powerful it still holds up today and I'm glad his legacy is inspiring a new gen of artists & activists to keep pushing for inclusivity and representation 💖 those iconic Grandassa Models pics are still giving me chills 💁‍♀️ the way he captured the beauty in African American culture without trying to conform to Eurocentric standards was truly ahead of its time 📸

😔 Kwame Brathwaite was an iconic figure in the fight for inclusivity and self-expression 🌈. His photos were more than just pictures of people - they were a declaration of pride and identity 💪. I remember reading about his work growing up, fascinated by the way he challenged traditional beauty standards to showcase African American features 📸. His collaboration with jazz legends like Nina Simone was pure magic ✨. Brathwaite's legacy will continue to inspire generations to come, reminding us that art has the power to shape our culture and fight for change 💕.

OMG u think Kwame Brathwaite was just a photographer? like, yeah he took some sick pics but he was also a total game changer for the African American community 🤩. I mean, can u imagine living in the 60s with all that racism & oppression? he risked his life to show the world what Black beauty really looked like 💁‍♀️. and let's not forget about those collabs with jazz legends - talk about a power couple 🔥💫. anywayz, his legacy is definitely one for the books 📚, keep celebrating his work and pushing boundaries, fam 👍

🤔 I'm not sure about all this fuss around Kwame Brathwaite's passing...I mean, don't get me wrong, his work is iconic and he was a true pioneer for African American culture. But 85? That's like, ancient for us young folks 😂. I'm more concerned about the fact that we're still celebrating people who came before us as if they were superheroes 🦸‍♂️. Don't get me wrong, they paved the way, but what about the rest of us? What about our own stories and experiences? Can't we have our own "Black is Beautiful" movement without looking back at the past all the time? 💭 I guess it's just my skeptical side kicking in 🙄.
