Late-night host David Letterman has pounced on President Donald Trump's criticism of NBC late-night host Seth Meyers, calling him a "dictator."
During a recent podcast episode, Letterman defended Meyers from Trump's attack in a Truth Social post. The president had called Meyers' show a "Ratings DISASTER," and claimed that Meyers suffers from an incurable case of "Trump Derangement Syndrome" (TDS). However, instead of taking the high road, Letterman chose to fire back at Trump.
"Well, I've never been more proud of Seth Meyers," Letterman said with amusement.
The comedian also jabbed at Trump's ego, joking that he should be careful not to bring on his wrath. When referring to a recent exchange between Trump and an ABC News reporter about Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Letterman quipped, "But just remember, Seth, 'things happen'."
Trump's attacks on Meyers come after late-night host Jimmy Kimmel was suspended by ABC for several days in September for comments about conservative activist Charlie Kirk's alleged assassin. Months ago, CBS announced that "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" would be canceled next spring.
Letterman also used his platform to criticize Trump directly, labeling him a "dictator." He seemed to suggest that the president is not going anywhere anytime soon.
