LIVE: Trump to host NATO chief as Putin meeting collapses

US President Donald Trump held a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, at the White House on Wednesday. According to sources, this was one of Trump's last meetings before leaving office.

During their conversation, both leaders discussed several key issues, including security and defense in Europe. The US president emphasized the importance of cooperation between NATO and Washington in addressing regional threats.

Rutte acknowledged that his country is committed to its membership in the alliance, but also expressed concerns over the potential withdrawal of European troops from Eastern Europe. This has been a major point of contention in recent months, with Trump pushing for reduced involvement in the region.

Despite their differences, both leaders seemed to agree on some common ground, particularly when it comes to strengthening ties between NATO and key allies such as Germany and France. The meeting marked a significant moment in US-Netherlands relations, which have been strained over security issues in recent years.

This gathering comes at a time when the global landscape is experiencing heightened tensions, with major powers competing for influence on multiple fronts. Trump's administration has taken an increasingly assertive stance on several key issues, from trade to defense spending.

The meeting between Trump and Rutte was seen as a test of their working relationship, which had been strained in recent months over various policy differences. The outcome of the summit will likely have implications for US foreign policy in Europe going forward.

Rutte left the White House promising that his country would continue to work closely with Washington on key issues, including security and defense cooperation.

I'm totally stoked about this meeting between Trump and Rutte 🤩! I mean, it's not like they're going to agree on everything or anything 😂. But seriously, it's awesome that they could find some common ground, especially when it comes to NATO and key allies like Germany and France. It's like, a major win for global cooperation and stuff 💡.

I'm also loving the fact that Rutte didn't back down from expressing his concerns about European troops in Eastern Europe 🤝. I mean, someone's gotta keep Trump in check, right? 😜. And let's be real, it's not like this is going to solve all our global problems or anything, but it's a step in the right direction, you know? 🔙.

The fact that Rutte left promising continued cooperation on security and defense is major 🎉. It's like, we're finally seeing some adults at the table having a real conversation about how to keep everyone safe 🤝. Fingers crossed this is just the start of something amazing! 💥

I'm so done with Trump's last minute power plays 🤦‍♂️! Meeting up with Rutte just to push for European troops to be withdrawn? Come on, what's the goal here? Trying to stir up trouble and create a rift between NATO countries? Newsflash, Donald: you're leaving office soon and it's time to let others handle the diplomacy 💼. And honestly, I'm still not sure if Rutte is being completely honest about his country's stance on this... could be a clever ploy to get Trump out of there ASAP 🤔.

idk why ppl need 2 be so dramatic about this meeting 🤷‍♂️... Trump & Rutte both said similar stuff - coop is key, NATO matters etc. it's not like they came up with new ideas or anything 😅... but hey, at least its good 2 see them tryin 2 work together 👊... we can't just assume everything's gonna fall apart w/ Trump outta office 🙏

Man... I'm still trying to wrap my head around Trump's last meeting 🤯. It's crazy how he's already wrapping up his legacy like this. The fact that Rutte mentioned the potential withdrawal of troops from Eastern Europe makes me go "what, dude?!" 😱 How can they just pull out now? It's like, don't get me wrong, I get why there are tensions and all, but come on... NATO is like, super important for everyone. 🤝

I'm glad that Rutte didn't just give in to Trump's demands though, because I think it shows that the Netherlands still has some backbone 😏. And yeah, strengthening ties with Germany and France makes sense, 'cause those are two of the biggest players in Europe. But at the same time... you can't help but feel like this is all just a bit too late for Trump's administration 🕰️. It's like they're trying to leave some sort of legacy, but it's all just a bit...meh 😐

Umm... so like, Trump's last meeting before leaving office? That's kinda weird 🤔. I mean, wouldn't he want to have more meetings than just one? Or is this like, a sign that he's really wrapping things up?

And yeah, security and defense in Europe was a big topic. I can see why both leaders would be concerned about European troops in Eastern Europe tho... it's like, a delicate situation. 🤝

I'm kinda curious though, what exactly did Trump mean by "reduced involvement" in the region? Was he trying to pull out of NATO or something? That would be a big deal 🚨.

And I guess this meeting does show that both leaders can put aside their differences on some stuff. Stronger ties between NATO and Germany and France is a good thing, right? 👍

But what about the other European countries? Are they gonna be okay with just relying on the US for security or are they gonna want to take matters into their own hands? 🤔 That's like, a big question mark for me.
