At least eight inmates, including three with murder charges, escaped from a northeast Louisiana jail on Friday morning in what authorities described as a "coordinated" break-out.
A manhunt has been launched to recapture the fugitives, with Louisiana State Police taking the lead in the investigation. The escape is believed to have occurred sometime between 1:20 and 2:00 a.m. Friday, when the inmates were reported missing from the Riverbend Detention Center.
While authorities are still unsure of how the men managed to escape, they have confirmed that five inmates remain unaccounted for: Destin Brogan, Kelin Looney, Krisean Salinas, Kevin Slaughter, and Koplelon Vicknair. The identities of the three recaptured inmates have also been released as Hugo Molino, Trenton Taplin, and Savon Wheeler.
Taplin is facing charges related to first-degree murder and attempted murder, while Brogan and Looney were both charged with second-degree murder. In contrast, Vicknair was awaiting sentencing on charges related to a 2023 homicide.
The Louisiana Attorney General's office has pledged assistance in the investigation, including the use of the Fugitive Apprehension Unit.
Residents are advised not to approach any suspicious individuals and to contact law enforcement immediately if they have any information regarding the whereabouts of the fugitives.
