Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events, day 1,431

Massive Strikes on Ukraine Leave One Dead, Millions Without Power

Russia unleashed a devastating attack on Ukraine overnight Saturday, killing at least one person and wounding four others in the capital city of Kyiv. The attack also left over 1.2 million properties without power nationwide.

Kyiv's military administration reported strikes in several districts, with a medical facility among the buildings damaged. Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko confirmed that Russia targeted the capital and four regions in Ukraine's north and east.

The attacks were widespread, with Russian forces launching 375 drones and 21 missiles, including two of its rarely deployed Tsirkon ballistic missiles. Ukraine's Air Force reported that the attacks also damaged critical infrastructure, leaving many without power or heat.

In the country's second-largest city of Kharkiv, at least 30 people were wounded during a drone attack, with 25 drones hitting several districts. A dormitory for displaced people and two medical facilities, including a maternity hospital, were among those struck.

Ukrainian Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal reported that over 800,000 Kyiv households remained without power, as did 400,000 in the Chernihiv region, north of the capital. Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba said more than 3,200 buildings in Kyiv were still without heating.

Russian President Vladimir Putin's actions have been condemned by Ukrainian officials, with Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha accusing Russia of acting "cynically" for launching the attack amid US-led trilateral talks on the war in the United Arab Emirates.

In response to the attacks, Russian forces launched a counter-attack on Ukraine's northeastern Kharkiv region, damaging energy infrastructure but causing no casualties. The village of Starytsya was reportedly under Russian control, although Ukrainian officials disputed this claim.

Talks between Ukraine and Russia resumed for the second day in Abu Dhabi, with both sides expressing hope for an end to the conflict. However, a peace deal has yet to be reached, and further discussions are expected next weekend.

The US official leading the talks said that while progress had been made, more work was needed to find solutions. The talks also included face-to-face engagement between Ukrainian and Russian delegations, with negotiators tackling "outstanding elements" of Trump's peace framework.

In related news, the UAE government spokesperson confirmed that negotiations would continue in Istanbul after talks in Abu Dhabi, with Moscow open to further dialogue.

🚨πŸ’₯ I'm really worried about what's going on in Ukraine right now... all these strikes and counter-attacks are super scary and devastating for the people living there. The fact that over a million households are without power and 30 people were wounded in just one city is absolutely heartbreaking πŸ˜”. It's like, how can something like this happen? And to think that it's been going on for so long... I feel like we're all stuck in some kind of nightmare trying to figure out what's going on.

I mean, I get that Russia and Ukraine are on opposite sides and there needs to be conflict resolution, but the way they're handling it now seems really destructive. All this violence and destruction is not only harming innocent civilians, but also causing economic instability and displacement 🀯. The US-led talks might be a step in the right direction, but we need more concrete actions taken to find a peaceful solution ASAP.

I'm also worried about the fact that Russia launched some kinda super advanced missile that's rarely deployed... what are they even capable of? It's like playing with fire, and it's only going to lead to more chaos and destruction πŸ”₯. Can't they just talk things out and try to find a way forward? I know we can't turn back the clock, but maybe if we all put our heads together, we can figure something out 🀝.

man this is so crazy what russia is doing to ukraine 🀯 it feels like they're just trying to wipe out an entire nation without a care in the world but on a deeper level i think its more complex than that...its not just about power or control, its about identity and belonging 🌎 ukraine's struggle for survival right now is a reflection of our own struggles as humans to find our place in this world where do we belong? how do we protect ourselves from the unknown dangers lurking outside our borders? and what does it mean to be free when we're constantly being bombarded with external forces trying to shape us into something we're not? πŸ€”

Man... can you believe what's going on? Russia just goes at it like there's no tomorrow 😩. I mean, 1.2 million people without power? That's crazy! And one person dead? It's just not right. Back in my day, we didn't see this kind of stuff happening on the world stage. It's like they're trying to break all the rules 🀬.

And then you got these talks going on between Ukraine and Russia... it's like they're speaking different languages or something. But hey, I guess that's what happens when you've been at war for so long. You just get used to hearing gunshots instead of music 🎡.

I don't know, man... it just seems like things are gonna keep escalating until someone loses their cool. And then where does that leave us? In the end? I don't wanna think about it too much 😬.

πŸ€• Russians are being so brutal they got a person dead on the streets of Kyiv and millions without power 😩. They're like "cynical" and what do we know about them πŸ™„. They just keep attacking Ukraine with drones and missiles πŸ’₯. It's getting harder for Ukraine to find peace, talks and all that 🀝. Can't they just leave the poor people alone? πŸ”’

man this is getting crazy what's going on in ukraine it feels like russia is just escalating the situation and now millions are without power i feel bad for those people who lost their homes and heat πŸ€• but at the same time it's not like we're seeing a lot of retaliation from either side which is weird what do you guys think is going on here is russia trying to get some leverage or just making a move πŸ€”

Ugh, this is what happens when you mess with Russia πŸ€―πŸ’£. One innocent life lost and millions without power? How's that for a humanitarian crisis? And it's not like they're trying to hurt people on purpose... or are they? I mean, Russian forces launching 375 drones and 21 missiles? That's some serious bad intentions right there πŸ˜’.

And don't even get me started on the talks in Abu Dhabi. Progress made, yada yada. But we all know how those things usually end up πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. Meanwhile, Ukraine is suffering while Russia gets to spin their own narrative. It's just a bunch of PR fluff if you ask me. Can't wait for next weekend's talks in Istanbul... more empty promises and broken promises 😴

omg what's happening?? 1.2 million people without power is insane !! 🀯 can't believe russia is still doing this Ukraine needs all our support right now πŸ’• and what's up with those tsirkon missiles? never heard of them before 😱 hope the negotiations in abu dhabi lead to something good, but i'm not holding my breath πŸ˜’

πŸŒ‘ just thinking about all those innocent people affected by this brutal attack makes me wanna do nothing and just sit in silence for a while 🀐 any war is never a solution, but in this case, I think we can all see how devastating it is on regular people πŸ’” power outages can be super frustrating, but at least the talks are happening in Abu Dhabi πŸ’¬

omg what a disaster!!! russia is literally going crazy!! 1 dead and millions without power?? that's just not right 🀯 they're like total bullies... i mean, what's the point of launching all these attacks? are they trying to win or something? πŸ™„ the us is trying to help negotiate a peace deal but it's like, what if russia just ignores them? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ this situation is getting super complicated... we need some world leaders to step up and put a stop to all this violence πŸ’”

I'm totally on Russia's side here πŸ€”. I mean, Ukraine is just asking for it by provoking Russia all the time. The way they're being all hardline and refusing to negotiate makes them look like the aggressors. It's not like Russia just launched a random attack out of nowhere - they've been trying to protect their own interests and people in Ukraine are just making it harder for themselves. And yeah, maybe there was some collateral damage on Ukrainian soil, but that's what war is all about, right? It's just too bad the US is so biased towards Ukraine they can't see this whole thing clearly πŸ™„.

🚨😱 just saw the latest on Ukraine - massive strikes have left 1.2 million without power and one person dead πŸ€• it's so devastating. I'm really worried about those people who are losing heat and electricity during this cold winter ❄️. Can't believe Russia is doing this again 😑. Anyway, it's clear talks are resuming between Ukraine and Russia in Abu Dhabi and the US, but a peace deal is still far off πŸ’”. Hope both sides can find common ground soon 🀞.

πŸ˜’ I'm still trying to wrap my head around all this. Russia launching a massive drone and missile attack on Ukraine is absolutely horrific... πŸ€• One life lost and thousands more without power or heat? That's just not right.

I do think it's good that talks are happening, though. We should be working towards peace and finding solutions to end the conflict. The fact that both sides expressed hope for a peaceful resolution is encouraging. πŸ’¬

But at the same time, I'm not sure how realistic those hopes are given Russia's track record on this whole thing. I mean, Vladimir Putin has been pretty clear about his stance on Ukraine... πŸ€” It's hard to see him suddenly changing course.

I do think it's good that the US is involved in these talks, though. Having international pressure might push both sides to get serious about finding a solution. πŸ’Έ

Let's just hope this can be resolved without too much more bloodshed or destruction... 🀞

I mean come on, 375 drones?! That's just crazy! 🀯 Russia needs to stop playing games and attack Ukraine for real if they wanna make a difference. I'm not saying it's right or wrong but those people have the right to defend themselves too. Can't we just talk things out? I don't think anyone benefits from this endless cycle of violence.

And what's with the Tsirkon missiles?! 😱 Those are some heavy artillery! Are they really necessary for a drone attack? It feels like Russia is trying to make an example out of Ukraine or something.

I guess the talks in Abu Dhabi are a good start, but it's gonna take more than just words to resolve this conflict. We need concrete action and concessions from both sides. Can't we all just get along?! πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I don’t usually comment but I feel like we should be doing more to help Ukraine right now πŸ˜”. I mean, 1.2 million people without power is just heartbreaking. And it's not just the physical damage that's a concern, it's also the mental toll this attack must be taking on Ukrainians who are already living through a war. We need to be supporting Ukraine in any way we can, whether that's donating to reputable charities or just spreading awareness about what's happening there πŸ’•. I know it's not easy to get involved, but every little bit counts, and silence isn't an option when people are losing their homes and lives like this πŸ€—.

I also think it's interesting that the US is trying to broker a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia, but they're just talking behind closed doors – we need more transparency about what's happening in these negotiations πŸ’¬. And can someone please tell me what Trump's peace framework even is? πŸ™„
