Some fans whistle as Lionel Messi’s name is announced as Paris Saint-Germain’s season hits new low | CNN

Paris Saint-Germain's miserable season has taken a darker turn as the team suffered its second straight home defeat, this time to Lyon with a 1-0 loss. The match was marred by the booing of Lionel Messi's name when his number was announced over the public address system, a stark contrast to the adoration he received during Argentina's recent friendlies.

The disappointment in Paris is palpable, with the team struggling to find its footing on home soil. Even before the game began, it was clear that tensions were running high among the PSG faithful, who whistled and jeered as Messi took to the field.

Despite his impressive goal contributions – 18 goals and 17 assists this season – Messi has yet to lead PSG to victory in a major competition. The team's only recent trophy win was Ligue 1 last season, which many would argue was won without Messi's input.

Coach Christophe Galtier refused to blame Messi for the team's struggles, instead attributing their failures to a lack of cohesion among players and an inability to overcome difficult situations. "I found it hard to listen to," he said in response to the jeering. "There may be expectations for Messi and Mbappe to unlock difficult situations. Messi tries very hard, they didn't all work out; but around him, the other players also need to do their jobs."

PSG's struggles are a far cry from the high expectations surrounding their arrival of Lionel Messi. The team is now just six points behind leaders Lens and Marseille, with even the domestic title hanging in the balance.

Up next for PSG is a season-defining week that will test their resolve and determination. They travel to an unbeaten Nice side before hosting Lens at home, where they must regroup and refocus if they are to avoid another disappointing defeat.

I'm not surprised to see PSG struggling like this... 😐 they've been inconsistent all season. I still think Messi is a game-changer, but I gotta agree with Galtier that the team's cohesion is a major issue. Those booing moments were pretty cringeworthy though 🤦‍♂️ it's one thing to have high expectations, but another to trash the guy on his own turf.

It's crazy how much pressure PSG is under now... they've got their backs against the wall. Nice and Lens are both tough opponents ahead of them, so we'll see how they respond. I hope they can get their act together before it's too late 🕰️ this season's title is still up for grabs, but it won't be easy to snatch from the leaders... 💪

Ugh, it's like they're expecting Messi to single-handedly carry the team to victory 🙄... Newsflash, PSG fans: just because he's a superstar doesn't mean the rest of the team is incompetent 💁‍♀️. I mean, come on, a 1-0 loss to Lyon? That's embarrassing 😳. And can we please talk about how hard it is for Messi to perform when the whole team is giving him grief 🤦‍♂️... Galtier's right, though - the players need to step up their game. It's not all on Messi's shoulders 💪. The fact that they're only six points behind leaders Lens and Marseille should be a wake-up call for everyone involved 🔊. PSG needs to get its act together ASAP or risk missing out on even more trophies 🏆...

I'm loving this Messi drama 😂! It's crazy how the PSG faithful turned on him like that, considering he's still bringing in 18 goals and 17 assists per season 🤯. The fact that his teammates aren't stepping up is a major issue, but at least Galtier isn't taking it out on Leo 🙏. That being said, I think this slump could be a blessing in disguise for PSG – if they can get back to winning ways, the team will be even more formidable next season 💪. It's also interesting that the fans' behavior highlights how much pressure is on Messi and Kylian Mbappe to perform 📺. Time will tell if PSG can regroup and come out on top, but I'm rooting for them! 🎉

😒 I don't get why people boo Messi like that... isn't he the star of the team? 🤔 Like, isn't he supposed to score all the goals or something? 🏆 And what's with this "they didn't all work out" thing... does that mean the other players are just not good enough? 🙄 I don't think it's fair on Messi. He's still scoring tons of goals and making awesome assists. 🤩 What do you guys think is going on at PSG? Are they just having a bad season or what? 🤷‍♀️

I gotta say, I'm loving the drama with Messi's name being booed 🤣, but seriously though, it's kinda sad for him considering how much hype he's getting just because of his last team. Like, come on PSG, you gotta support your superstar player, especially when he's putting up those goals and assists 🚀. The fans' negativity is totally unfair to him and I'm worried he'll get burned out if things don't turn around soon 😔. And yeah, coach Galtier seems like a straight shooter, maybe we should just give the guy some space to figure out his game without all the pressure? But honestly, I still think PSG will make it to the top... this season is gonna be intense 💥!

Ugh 😒 just can't even 🤯 when it comes to PSG's season 💔 especially after all the hype around Messi 🤷‍♂️ like, didn't we know this was coming? 🙄 coaches need to step up their game too 📚 Galtier needs to take responsibility for his team's losses 👥 and figure out how to get everyone on the same page 🗣️ it's not just about Messi ⭐️ although he's a genius on the field 🤯 still, PSG needs to come together 💪 if they wanna make a comeback 🔥 Nice and Lens are looking fierce 💁‍♀️👑

🤔 I mean, can you blame the fans? Messi's not exactly setting the world on fire this season 😐. And that Lyon match was like a punch in the gut for PSG. It's like they're still adjusting to having him on board 🔄. Galtier's trying to say all is well but let's be real, he can't just magic victories out of thin air 🔮. The fans are frustrated and rightfully so ⚠️.

I'm more concerned about the team's overall cohesion though. If they can't work together, no amount of talent like Messi will save them 💔. They need to regroup and refocus ASAP or else it's gonna be a long season 📆. The pressure's on PSG to get their act together, especially with those top teams hot on their heels 🔥

omg what's going on with psg?? 🤯 they're literally getting booed for messi's name now it's like the fans are expecting them to win every game with just one guy on the field... 🙄 and coach galtier is right tho, messi can't single-handedly carry a team thru tough times. like, he's got 18 goals and 17 assists but psg still hasn't won any major comps. it's time for the other players to step up their game 😩 and btw, i feel bad for messi... he came to paris with so much hype and now the fans are turning on him 🤕
