A Syrian refugee has made history in Germany by becoming the first person with Syrian roots to be elected as the mayor of a municipality. Ryyan Alshebl, 29, won the mayoral election in the southwestern German state of Baden-Württemberg with an impressive 55.41% of the votes.

this is so amazing! a syrian refugee who went through so much (fled war, struggled to settle) and now becomes mayor 
it shows that no matter where you come from or what challenges you face, hard work and kindness can take you far
