Greece's Literary Festival Brings Unexpected Joy to a Struggling Musician
A trip to Greece wasn't on the cards for Tim Dowling and his band, but they couldn't turn down an invitation to play at a literary festival. The gig had fallen into place, awkwardly, with the musicians having to abandon their own holiday plans and fly home first – only to re-pack and hit the skies again.
But it wasn't just the logistics of their journey that were causing tension; Dowling was preoccupied by two nagging issues: his banjo, which he'd left at a Twilight Bag Drop airport facility, and his roof, in dire need of repair. These worries had him on edge, even before they arrived in Greece.
The weather forecast didn't exactly promise a pleasant stay – driving rain greeted them upon arrival, followed by another storm that threatened to ruin the opening drinks party of the festival. Yet, despite these setbacks, Dowling has found himself growing fond of this Greek getaway, and the people who make it so charming.
Dowling was set to perform at an evening gala dinner on the quayside – a new and unexpected venue change, brought about by the unpredictable weather forecast. There's been some mutiny among festival-goers; a petition had emerged, calling for the Greek band to be reinstated instead of Dowling's ensemble.
However, their performance has received rave reviews. By the time they finished their set, long after midnight and into what should have been the festival's close – the partygoers wouldn't let it end! In fact, there were many who felt guilty because they'd started a petition against Dowling's band.
As the day finally breaks, with some sunshine peeking through, Dowling finds himself having a change of heart. Maybe he is starting to enjoy this Greek getaway more than he thought – perhaps even making him forget about those pesky worries back home.
