They're just trying to keep the cash flowing from the establishment, you know? And don't even get me started on Billie Joe's little tantrum about ICE - yeah right, like that's going to change anything. 
Still, I guess it's better than nothing. At least they're still speaking out against some of the crap they care about, even if it's not always gonna be timely or bold enough for everyone's taste...
it's not like they're avoiding the issue entirely, billie joe armstrong just keeps on speaking his mind in other ways, like that rant at the ice pregame party

who needs to mention trump's name in a super bowl performance anyway? like, its not about the politics but about spreading awareness & making people think. Green Day played those 2 songs 'cause they're powerful enough on their own. plus think about how much more impact would've been lost if billie joe just went out there & ranted about trump 
. And if Billie Joe Armstrong wanted to make a statement against ICE agents at the pregame party, then that's exactly what he did

i was literally watching the Super Bowl with my friends and we were all hyped 4 green day's performance! but like when they played american idiot and it was soooo underwhelming 
but still it felt kinda weird not hearing anything directly about him. BUT on the bright side billie joe's pre-game party speech was EVERYTHING

, some fans were expecting a whole concert but honestly who needs that? Green Day delivered a clear message about ICE in a high-stakes setting which is way more impactful than some band trying to stir up controversy for its own sake 
they played 2 songs thats already pretty political lol "american idiot" is like the ultimate anti trump jam anyway they made a big deal about it at that pregame party and billie joe called out ICE agents so i think thats enough for now let's not be too harsh on them
