Trump’s impending San Francisco crackdown sparks backlash from Newsom, mayor

California Governor Gavin Newsom and San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie are at odds with President Donald Trump over the National Guard's impending deployment to the city. The White House has urged California Democrats to welcome the National Guard, which Trump claims will "clean up" San Francisco.

Newsom responded by saying that he believes the deployment would "ruin one of America's greatest cities." The mayor emphasized his commitment to public safety and cited the success of recent efforts to improve the city's policing. Newsom pointed out that in contrast to some other cities, San Francisco has seen minimal incidents during a major conference last week.

President Trump stated on Sunday that he plans to deploy National Guard troops to San Francisco because he believes it was once "one of the great cities of the world," but "went woke" over the past 15 years. The governor criticized Trump's comments in a social media post, saying "fact check: nobody wants you here."

Trump has been critical of Newsom for his response to protests against deportations by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement this spring, when he deployed National Guard troops to Los Angeles.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has taken steps to boost public safety with the deployment of Highway Patrol crime-suppression teams across the state, a move Trump criticized as "the Trump administration undermining cities."

🤯😱 what's going on in San Francisco rn? 🤔 President Trump thinks National Guard will "clean up" SF but Newsom is all like 😒 ruin the city? 🏙️ I mean, can't we just agree to disagree? 🤷‍♀️ The fact that Trump wants to deploy troops over 15 yrs ago changed and now is just... weird. 😳 Did he really think San Francisco was still gonna be the same? 🌃 Anyway, Newsom's got a point about policing efforts in SF being successful, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this whole thing plays out 🕰️

🤔 I'm telling you, something fishy is going on here... 🐟 Trump's sudden interest in deploying National Guard troops to San Francisco just doesn't add up. It's like he's trying to stir up some drama and create a crisis where none exists. 🙄 Newsom's got the facts on his side - minimal incidents during that major conference last week, and Los Angeles is still dealing with those deportations you know... it's not like California's just sitting around twiddling its thumbs.

And what's with this "San Francisco went woke" nonsense? 🤷‍♂️ That sounds like some classic case of projection to me - Trump's been trying to demonize anyone who doesn't conform to his own brand of right-wing America for years. 💸 The Highway Patrol crime-suppression teams, yeah... that just sounds like a thinly veiled attempt to undermine local law enforcement and give more power to the federal government. 🚫 Not buying it, folks! 😒

I'm so done with politicians using their platforms to spread misinformation 🙄. Trump's claim that San Francisco is now "woke" and lost its great city status is just plain ridiculous 😂. I mean, come on, it's a city with one of the highest populations of tech companies and innovators - you can't just rewrite history like that.

And what's with Newsom's comment about "fact check: nobody wants you here"? 👋 Can't we all just get along? The real issue is public safety, which both leaders are trying to address in their own ways. I think it's great that Newsom has taken steps to boost public safety with his crime-suppression teams - it's a proactive approach that shows he cares about his constituents.

Let's focus on finding solutions to our problems rather than resorting to hurtful rhetoric 💬. We can disagree without being disagreeable 😊.

.. President Trump is at it again 🙄. I mean, come on, he's trying to send in the National Guard to "clean up" San Francisco? What's next? Sending in the cavalry to fix all our problems? 😂 It's just so... Trump.

And Newsom's right, too. I love how he stood up for his city and said it wouldn't be ruined by a bunch of military folks showing up. I'm with him on that one, Governor! 👊 But at the same time, I get where the president is coming from. He really does think San Francisco has fallen off the map over the years.

You know what's wild? Trump's comments about San Francisco being "woke" and all that. That's just rich coming from him. 🤑 I mean, he's been all about stirring up controversy for years now. But seriously, can't we just focus on getting things done instead of bickering over old-school America vs. modern-day San Francisco? 🤔

🤔 I'm so tired of both sides being all drama about this. Like, can't we just focus on making San Francisco a safe place for everyone? 🌉 I mean, Newsom has already deployed those Highway Patrol teams and it's showing results - crime is down! 📉 Trump thinks the National Guard is gonna "clean up" SF but have you seen how that works out in other cities? It's like, not cool. 😒 And what's with all this "San Francisco went woke" nonsense? We should be celebrating our diversity and inclusivity, not tearing each other down over it 🌈💖. Can't we just agree to disagree and move forward? 🤷‍♀️

I think Newsom's response is pretty reasonable 🤔. I mean, he's not saying no National Guard troops at all, but more that they shouldn't come in and change the city without a good reason. And what's with Trump's comment about San Francisco "going woke" over the past 15 years? That sounds like a pretty loaded statement to me 😒. Newsom is trying to protect his city and its people, which I think is totally understandable. As for the fact that some cities are experiencing more incidents than others... well, doesn't everyone want to keep their community safe? 🤷‍♀️ I also don't get why Trump is so invested in San Francisco - it's not like he's ever been there himself! 🚫

🤔 San Francisco ain't no easy place. Both sides got valid points, but it's all about perception. I think Newsom should've just kept his head down and not reacted like that on social media 📱. Now he's gonna give Trump more ammo. Still, you can't deny the city's history and character is being pushed by gentrification and woke culture... or so some folks say 😒. I'd rather focus on solutions for public safety than bickering with the Prez 💡.

You know what's wild? I was at this awesome food truck fest in LA last weekend and they had these insane avocado toast sandwiches 🤯. I mean, who comes up with that stuff? But seriously, have you ever noticed how some places just take their food to a whole new level? Like, San Francisco is already famous for its sourdough bread, but then they bring out the avocado toast and it's like... game over. I'm not saying California needs to be protected from Trump or anything (🙅‍♂️), but come on, can't we just appreciate the avocado toast?

omg, like, what's going on here?! 🤯 President Trump thinks he can just deploy the National Guard to San Francisco and "clean up" the city? that's so not how it works, dude. California Governor Gavin Newsom is right, we don't need some outsider telling us how to run our city. and btw, Trump's comments about San Francisco going "woke" over the past 15 years are just, like, soooo out of touch 🙄

and can we talk about how Trump has been criticizing Newsom for deploying National Guard troops in LA? it's all about playing politics and trying to one-up each other. but what about the people of San Francisco? shouldn't they get to decide what's best for their city?

Newsom's response on social media was pretty fire btw, saying "fact check: nobody wants you here" 😂 I love how he's standing up for his city and not backing down from Trump's attacks. let's just hope this whole thing blows over soon 🤞

I don't get why Trump is being so harsh on San Francisco 🤔. The guy's just talking about how great it used to be and now it's all "woke" 🙄. Like, doesn't he know that the city has been working hard to improve its policing? It sounds like he's trying to use his National Guard thing as a way to scare people into doing what he wants 🚫. And what's with all this "clean up" talk? Is Trump seriously suggesting that San Francisco is some kind of mess? 🤦‍♀️ I just don't think it's fair to single out the city like that... 🌉
