U.S. Speedskater Greta Myers Makes Shocking Olympic Debut in 3,000 Meters

In a stunning turn of events, American speedskater Greta Myers made her surprise debut in the women's 3,000 meters at the Milan Cortina Olympics on Saturday. The 21-year-old from Minnesota took to social media just hours before the event to share her excitement and gratitude for the unexpected opportunity.

Myers was initially scheduled to compete in the women's 1,500, but after Czech Republic's Martina Sablikova withdrew due to a personal reason, Myers secured the first alternate quota spot. She finished the race in 20th place with a time of 4:13.46, narrowly missing medal contention.

When asked about her experience by NBC's Lewis Johnson, Myers described it as "really crazy" and expressed her surprise at just hours' notice. She recalled falling during an effort and feeling shaken up before realizing she would be competing in the 3,000 meters.

Myers is still training to build up her endurance for the upcoming team pursuit race on February 14th, which will determine the qualification round for the event. Despite not being fully prepared, Myers remains optimistic and expressed her enthusiasm to showcase her skills at the Olympics.

With the Milan Cortina Olympics now underway, fans are eagerly awaiting more thrilling performances from Greta Myers and other talented athletes competing in the world's most prestigious winter sporting event.

omg what a wild ride that girl's got 🤯! i mean 3k meters is crazy enough as it is but to have to drop into it like that must've been super stressful. i feel for her though, she went from nothin' to medal contention in like 2 secs 😂 and the fact that she was training for team pursuit already makes me go "wow". myers seems like a total rockstar 🤘 for stayin all positive despite not bein fully prepped. fingers crossed she gets to shine more in the next event 💫

OMG what a wild ride 🤯! Like seriously who expects to make an Olympic debut like that?! Greta's got skills tho, 20th place isn't bad considering she had to scramble into the 3k and everything 😂. And I feel her, totally shook up after falling... good thing she snapped out of it and gave it her all! She's still got this though 💪, gonna be super hyped for the team pursuit on Feb 14th. This is what Olympics are all about - unpredictability and inspiring stories like Greta's 💕

oh man I'm still on that US short track speedskating vibe from 2018 when they won all those medals 🤯 but I guess it's great to see new talent like Greta Myers breaking into the scene, tho its kinda crazy she went from not being prepared for one event to suddenly being part of another 4 days later... and poor girl fell during her attempt 😳 I mean I'm rooting for her still, we need more female faces in speedskating 🚴‍♀️

OMG, I'M SO THRILLED TO SEE GRETAS MYERS SHINE AT THE MILAN CORTINA OLYMPICS!!! SHE'S SUCH A BRONZE-NOTES WORTHY ATHLETE AND IT'S AMAZING HOW FAST SHE ADJUSTED TO THE 3000 METRES EVENT 🏅🔥 I MEAN, WHO NEEDS PRACTICE WHEN YOU'VE GOT NATURAL TALENT AND ENTHUSIASM 😄. i'm literally on the edge of my seat waiting for her next move in the team pursuit event 💪🎯

OMG 😱 I'm telling u, this is like something out of a movie! So they're sayin' she was initially supposed to do 1500m but now she's doin' 3000m like it's no big deal? 🤯 And then she just falls and gets back up like that's how it works? 😂 I'm not buyin' it. There gotta be some kinda setup or somethin' goin' on here... like, did they really have a last-minute replacement or was this all just an excuse to get her on TV? 📺 I mean, I got nothin' against Greta Myers or anythin', but come on, it's the Olympics! The stakes are high and she's just waltzin' in there like it's no biggie... I'm keepin' an eye on this one, that's for sure 👀
