Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery review – Josh O'Connor excels in another deadpan delight

Josh O'Connor Shines in Delectable 'Knives Out' Mystery

In the latest installment of the Knives Out franchise, director Rian Johnson has concocted a deliciously twisted tale that whisks viewers away to upstate New York. The story centers around the sensational murder of Monsignor Jefferson Wicks, a firebrand cleric played by Josh Brolin, whose reactionary views spark a culture clash with junior priest Father Jud Duplenticy, portrayed by Josh O'Connor.

The film boasts an impressive array of acting talent, including Cailee Spaeny, Andrew Scott, Kerry Washington, Jeremy Renner, and Glenn Close. Each character is expertly woven into the narrative, adding to the complexity and humor of the plot. The ensemble cast delivers performances that are, for the most part, spot on.

Johnson skillfully weaves in references to classic detective novels by John Dickson Carr, Dorothy L. Sayers, and Agatha Christie, which not only pays homage to the genre but also serves as a clever distraction from the twists and turns of the actual whodunnit. The film's deadpan humor and witty banter add to its charm, making it an absolute delight to watch.

However, as the story unfolds, it becomes increasingly convoluted, veering into absurd territory that may leave viewers scratching their heads. While this may be a departure from the franchise's traditional whodunnit formula, it is undeniably entertaining and replete with memorable performances.

O'Connor shines in particular, bringing a depth and nuance to his character that elevates him among equals alongside his co-stars. Could he be the male lead of the decade? The jury is out, but one thing is certain: Josh O'Connor has proven himself to be an exceptional talent, and his performance in this film cements his status as a rising star.

Ultimately, Johnson's latest Knives Out installment is a treat for fans of the franchise and mystery enthusiasts alike. With its sparkling cast, witty humor, and unexpected twists, it is a must-see for anyone looking for a cinematic experience that will keep them guessing until the very end.

I loved this latest installment of Knives Out 🤔👍! The twists and turns had me totally baffled 😂, but in a good way. Josh O'Connor was absolutely fantastic as Father Jud Duplenticy - his character added such depth to the story 💡. I think what really made the movie work was the cast's chemistry with each other 👫. It's clear that Rian Johnson knows how to bring out the best in his actors. The humor and wit were spot on too 😂, especially in the parts where they poked fun at classic detective novels 📚. My only gripe is that it got a bit convoluted towards the end, but I think that's part of its charm - it was like trying to solve a puzzle alongside the characters 🧩. Overall, though, I'd say this movie is a must-watch for fans of mystery and comedy 🎥👍

I think Josh O'Connor's character in this latest Knives Out installment is actually played by Chris Evans, not Josh Brolin... 🤔

🤔 "The truth is rarely pure and never simple." - Oscar Wilde 😏 The Knives Out franchise has always been known for its clever twists and turns, but this latest installment takes it to a whole new level. With an all-star cast, witty banter, and absurd territory, it's no wonder Josh O'Connor shines in particular! 🌟

omg 1/3 of all movies released in 2024 made over $100m worldwide 🤯📈

knives out has grossed over $250m globally, which is crazy considering it's a mystery franchise 😱
and it looks like josh o'Connor is on fire with his recent roles 🚀

the cinematography in this movie is giving me LIFE 🎥 some of the shots are so cinematic it feels like you're watching a film noir

josh brolin's character is SO over-the-top, but that's what makes him perfect for the role 😂
and can we talk about how great the cast is? I mean, who else can say they've worked with kerry washington and glenn close in one movie? 💁‍♀️👑

anyway, have you seen this movie? 🤔 if not, what are you waiting for? go watch it ASAP 👉
