Zimbabwe's ruling party sets sights on extending Emmerson Mnangagwa's presidency by two years, potentially keeping him in power until 2030.

In a move that has sparked intense debate within the ruling ZANU-PF party, delegates at the movement's annual conference in the eastern city of Mutare have instructed the government to begin drafting legislation to amend the Constitution and extend Mnangagwa's term by two years.

The plan was met with applause from loyalists, but not everyone is pleased. Rivals within the party, led by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, are openly resisting an extension of Mnangagwa's presidency, calling it a "dangerous unconstitutional anti-people agenda".

Critics accuse ZANU-PF of using this plan as a way to consolidate power and crush dissent, following years of hyperinflation, mass unemployment, and allegations of corruption. They warn that any attempt to rewrite the Constitution will face resistance in court.

In response to concerns over economic stability, Mnangagwa's administration has been under fire for its handling of the country's dire economic situation. According to critics, his government has presided over a disastrous collapse marked by hyperinflation, mass unemployment, and allegations of corruption.

As tensions escalate, opposition figures have vowed to challenge any attempt to extend Mnangagwa's presidency through court, stating that they will "defend the Constitution against its capture and manipulation".

Meanwhile, internal power struggles within ZANU-PF continue to intensify, with some factions pushing for a prolonged stay in office by loyalists like Emmerson Mnangagwa. Others are preparing the ground for Chiwenga, who played a key role in toppling President Robert Mugabe in 2017.

With mass protests having gained little traction and police deployments heavy in major cities, it remains to be seen whether Zimbabwe's opposition can successfully challenge the ruling party's bid to extend Mnangagwa's term.

omg have u herd about zimbabwe?? they wanna keep emmerson mnangagwa in power till 2030 🤯😱 like wot r dey even thinkin? its been years of econmic crisis & corruption nd they still wanna extend his term? thats so sus. i dont no wat's goin on in that country rn, but one t'ing is for sho, its gotta get better 4 da ppl 🙏💪

I'm not sure why ppl are so hyped about Emmerson Mnangagwa's potential 2yr extension 🤔. Like, we already know he's been in power for ages & nothing much has changed. Zimbabwe's economy is still in shambles 💸 and people r struggling to make ends meet. What does an extra 2 yrs of his leadership guarantee? 🙄

🤔 I think this whole extension thing is a classic case of the "survival of the fittest" mentality - who gets to stay in power and who doesn't? It's like, if you're gonna keep Emmerson Mnangagwa around for two more years, what does that say about the party's priorities? Is it really about the people or is it just about maintaining control?

And let's be real, this whole thing is a bit of a slippery slope - one day it's about extending Mnangagwa's term, the next it's about rewriting the Constitution to suit the party's interests. It's like they're trying to rebrand themselves as a more "stable" and "practical" government, but we all know that's just code for "we're gonna do whatever it takes to stay in power".

I mean, where is the opposition on this? They're supposed to be the ones holding the ruling party accountable, but instead they're just sitting back and waiting for things to get really bad before they spring into action. It's like, what are they afraid of - a little bit of extra time in office? Because I know I'm not gonna trust them once this whole thing blows up in their faces 😬

man this is like zimbabwe's version of a never ending loop 🔄... they're trying to extend emmerson's term by 2 years which is already pretty sketchy considering how bad things are in the country right now 😟, but what really gets me is that some ppl are actually opposing it and its not just the opposition either, its like there's factions within the party that dont want him to stay in power for so long... its like they wanna be part of a change or somethin' 🤝

and i mean i get why ppl would wanna keep emmerson in power, he did help bring down robert mugabe and all but at what cost tho? 😩 the country's been struggling with hyperinflation and mass unemployment... its like they cant even be honest about whats going on anymore 💔

anywayz, its defintly gonna be interesting to see how this plays out 🤔... maybe ppl will wake up and demand real change 🌟

🤔 this is getting too familiar, another chance for a president to hold onto power indefinitely... what's the point of having free and fair elections if you're just gonna push them back every few years? 😒

🤔 I'm kinda worried about what's going on in Zimbabwe right now... like, this extension plan for Emmerson Mnangagwa's presidency sounds super suspicious 🙅‍♂️. I mean, if he gets to stay in power until 2030? That's just too long 💁‍♀️. And all these internal power struggles within ZANU-PF? It feels like they're more interested in keeping their own heads above water than actually helping the country 🌊.

And let's not forget, his administration is already getting roasted for handling the economy 🤦‍♂️. Hyperinflation, mass unemployment... it's a mess 😷. I just hope those opposition figures can rally together and challenge this plan in court 💪. But at this rate, it feels like they're fighting an uphill battle 😔. Can't we all just get along? 🤗

omg this is crazy 😲 zimbabwe is going through so much right now and i just wanna see some change already 🤯 how can u keep someone in power for that long tho? its like, a lot of people are still struggling with hyperinflation and mass unemployment... doesn't it seem like emmerson mnangagwa's party is more worried about keeping themselves in power than helping the country 💸 i hope the opposition figures can actually do something to stop this 😔 it feels like they're just going through the motions 🤷‍♂️

I don't know about you guys but I think this whole thing is actually kinda interesting 🤔. Like, on one hand, there are people who are really against extending Emmerson Mnangagwa's presidency and they got a point, Zimbabwe's economic situation is pretty dire 💸. But on the other hand, if the ruling party can get it together and make some real changes, maybe this could be a good thing 🔄. I mean, we've seen what happens when people get stuck in power for too long, right? It can lead to stagnation and more problems 🕰️. So instead of focusing on keeping Mnangagwa in power for two years, maybe the ZANU-PF party should be thinking about how they can make Zimbabwe a better place for everyone 🌈.

I'm not sure what's more concerning - the fact that ZANU-PF is trying to extend Emmerson Mnangagwa's presidency by two years or the party's apparent disregard for democratic norms 😒. I mean, if they're really worried about maintaining power, shouldn't they be working on fixing the economic mess they've created? The opposition's warnings about court challenges and constitutional manipulation are valid concerns - can't we just have a fair and transparent process for extending presidentships in Zimbabwe? 🤔

um so like i was reading this article about zimbabwe and stuff 🤔 and honestly i'm just confused what's going on with emmerson mnangagwa... like isn't he supposed to step down after a certain number of years or something? 🙄 and now the party wants him to stay in power for another two years? that sounds kinda suspicious 🤑 like they're trying to keep everyone in line or something. and what's with all the drama between the different factions within the party? it feels like a soap opera 😂 but seriously, doesn't anyone want some kind of change around here? maybe just a little bit? 🤷‍♀️

It's like a big puzzle with many moving pieces 🤯... The situation in Zimbabwe is super complicated. On one hand, you got Emmerson Mnangagwa who wants to stay in power for two more years 🕰️. But then you got the other side of the party and the opposition who are all like "no way, that's not fair" 😒.

I drew a simple diagram to represent this:
```
+---------------+
| Mnangagwa |
| (pro-stay) |
+---------------+
|
| (opposition)
v
+---------------+
| Chiwenga |
| (anti-stay) |
+---------------+
```
It's like a tug-of-war between these two factions. The opposition is saying that Mnangagwa's term extension would be unconstitutional and could lead to more problems. Meanwhile, loyalists are pushing for him to stay in power.

I don't know what the future holds, but I'm thinking it's gonna be a bumpy ride 🚨...

I'm all for extending Emmerson Mnangagwa's presidency 🤔... but like, only if he promises some serious economic reforms 💸, I mean, hyperinflation is super bad news 🚫, and mass unemployment is no joke 😓. But on the other hand, I totally get why his opponents are resistant to this whole idea 🙅‍♂️... it does seem like a power grab 🤷‍♀️, especially with the Zimbabwean Constitution being so... well, constitutional 🤦‍♂️. If Mnangagwa's government really is as corrupt and ineffective as everyone says, then maybe he doesn't deserve another two years in office 😒. Unless... unless he can somehow magically turn things around 💪, which I doubt 😅. It's all so... Zimbabwean 🌴... 😕

omg i feel like emmerson mnangagwa is just trying to cling to power for dear life lol 😂 his government is literally failing on all fronts - hyperinflation, mass unemployment... it's like zimbabwe is a joke at this point 🤣 and chiwenga needs to come in and clean up the mess 🙏 but i guess that would mean he'd have to take over which could get messy too 💁‍♀️ idk what the opposition is gonna do but they gotta try right? 😊

I'm torn on this one 🤔... I mean, on the one hand, Emmerson Mnangagwa has been in power for a while now and he's not getting any younger 😅... but at the same time, I don't want to see some old dude stuck in office forever just because of party loyalty 🙄... I guess what I'm saying is that I kinda get why there's a debate about it, but really can't we all just agree on one thing for once? 🤦‍♂️

I'm not sure about this move by ZANU-PF 🤔... It seems like they're trying to consolidate power and avoid any potential issues with the Constitution 😬. But on the other hand, you can't deny that Emmerson Mnangagwa has been in office for a while now, and some folks might want to keep him around 👴. The problem is that everyone's not happy about it 🤷‍♂️... Rivals like Constantino Chiwenga are resisting this extension, and the opposition is already planning to challenge it in court 💪.

From an economic standpoint, it doesn't look great for Zimbabwe 🔥. Hyperinflation, mass unemployment, and corruption issues aren't exactly what you'd call a successful government 😬. I'm not sure if extending Mnangagwa's term will fix these problems or make them worse 🤔... And with internal power struggles within ZANU-PF, it's hard to predict what'll happen next 💥.

One thing's for sure, though: Zimbabweans deserve better than a government that doesn't seem to be working in their best interests 👀. I hope the opposition can find a way to challenge this move and bring about some real change 🔄.

I mean think about it 🤔... Mnangagwa's done a lot for the country right? Like, he brought in new investors and stuff 📈. Sure, there are problems, but is two more years really gonna make that much of a difference? 🤷‍♂️ I get why people are resistant to the idea, but at the same time, can't we just give him some breathing room? 😒 It's not like he's done any real harm or anything... well, maybe some stuff with corruption, but who hasn't messed up a bit? 🤷‍♂️ Anyway, I think it's all just politics and people are gonna find a way to work around this 📝.

I'm low-key worried about this whole situation 🤔. Like, I get that Emmerson Mnangagwa has been in power for a while, but extending his presidency by two more years could be a recipe for disaster 🚨. It feels like the party is trying to consolidate power and squash any dissenting voices, which isn't exactly the most democratic thing to do 😒. And honestly, given Zimbabwe's economic situation right now, I think it's crucial that they focus on fixing things before making any changes to the constitution 📊. The opposition should definitely be allowed to challenge this move in court – it's not like they're being unreasonable 🤷‍♀️. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out 👀.
