omg like the tensions between china & usa are getting sooo crazy i mean nancy pelosi's visit to taiwan was lowkey a major move by the usa but china is totes not having it nick burns, the new us ambassador, seems super calm about it tho which is weird considering the situation but like what he said about china overreacting makes sense imo i mean china's been getting pretty aggressive with their military moves and stuff...anyway i'm def keeping an eye on this situation wanna see how it all plays out

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the whole China-Taiwan situation . Like, I get that there's a lot of history and politics involved, but it feels like it's getting more complicated by the day . As someone who's been following it on social media (especially during summer break), it seems like Beijing is still pretty upset about Nancy Pelosi visiting Taiwan . But at the same time, I feel like we're getting some good insight into how diplomats think - like Nicholas Burns saying that China overreacted ? It's crazy to think that someone in such a high position would be so calm under pressure . omg i was watching that interview with nick burns last night he's literally so nervous and fidgety lol idk if the chinese ppl will take him seriously at all but honestly i think china is overreacting its just politics as usual what i find interesting though is how US ambassadors are always seen as being super americanized they should be more like, neutral or something anyway, it's crazy to see how quickly things escalate between the two countries sometimes

Meanwhile, Taiwan's economy has been growing steadily with a GDP growth rate of 4.6% in Q2 2023 .

But what really caught my eye was the chart showing China's military spending vs Taiwan's defense spending . In 2020, China accounted for 33% of global military spending , while Taiwan's defense budget was just $9.8 billion . It's no wonder the US Ambassador says Beijing overreacted .

I'm also curious about the demographics of the people affected by these tensions . Did you know that in 2020, Taiwan's population was 23.5 million, with a median age of 42? Meanwhile, China's population is over 1.4 billion .
