Anthony Joshua's driver appears in court after Nigeria crash that killed two

The driver of British boxer Anthony Joshua's car, which crashed in Nigeria and killed two of his friends, has appeared in court. Adeniyi Kayode, 46, was charged with four crimes, including death by dangerous driving.

Kayode arrived at the Sagamu Magistrates Court in Ogun state on Tuesday but the case was adjourned until February 25 as the prosecutor sought more time to gain legal advice.

During the hearing, Kayode wore a black hoodie, black shoes and trousers and did not speak. The boxer's personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami, died in the crash on December 29 near Lagos. Joshua was treated for his injuries.

Kayode faces charges of causing death by dangerous driving, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid driver's licence. He had previously been released from custody after being granted bail of 5m naira ($3,500).

Joshua has family roots in the area where he was involved in the crash, a town called Sagamu, near Lagos. The boxer was on his way to visit relatives for New Year celebrations when the Lexus SUV crashed on the busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

😔 I'm still trying to wrap my head around this one... It's just so sad that two of Anthony Joshua's friends lost their lives in that crash. I feel bad for him, you know? He must be going through some tough times right now. The fact that the driver didn't even speak during the hearing is pretty shocking too. What was going on in his head at that moment? 🤔 And four charges, huh? It's definitely not looking good for him. The speed limit on that expressway is supposed to be 100km/h, but I've heard it's often ignored... 😳

🤕 this is so sad what happened to Anthony Joshua's friends, Latif and Sina... 46 years old Adeniyi Kayode got charged with these serious crimes and now he's just sitting there not saying anything 🙅‍♂️ I feel bad for the boxer, he was just trying to visit his relatives and it all turned into tragedy. Nigeria has this crazy roads situation, it's like they need to upgrade their traffic system ASAP 💥 Anthony Joshua is a British legend, he never deserved this kind of thing to happen... and I'm sure Latif and Sina were more than friends to him, they must've been like brothers or something 👊

🤕 its crazy how one mistake can lead to so many lives lost, i feel bad for anthony joshua, he's got a lot of fans and they're all worried about him 🙏. it's like, you'd think someone who's driving would be more careful, especially with a passenger as famous as latif ayodele 👊. 5m naira bail? that seems super low to me 🤑. and now adeniyi kayode is facing serious charges... i hope he gets the help he needs 💔.

man this is just crazy news 🤯... i mean adeniyi kayode seems like a pretty calm guy at court today, but u gotta feel bad 4 anthony joshua & his friends who lost their lives in that crash it was supposed to be a fun trip 2 celebrate the new year but now his friends are gone 💔 & he's still recoverin from those injuries... it's just so senseless when u think about it 🤷‍♂️... anyways, i hope kayode gets the help he needs 2 deal with whatever was goin on in his head that led him 2 drive so recklessly 😕...

😕 I'm still trying to process what happened with Anthony Joshua's friends 🤕. It's just so sad that this guy who seems like a good person had such a horrific accident happen to him and his mates 🚗💔. I mean, 5m naira bail for causing death by dangerous driving? That doesn't seem like enough to me... it feels like the system is giving the driver a free pass 🤷‍♂️.

I'm also kinda curious about Joshua's family roots in Sagamu, near Lagos... did his friends know him well enough that they were all hanging out together on the highway 🤔? I think it's interesting that he was on his way to visit relatives for New Year celebrations, but was still driving on one of the busiest roads in Nigeria 🎉. Was he just being reckless or was there something else going on?
