The driver of British boxer Anthony Joshua's car, which crashed in Nigeria and killed two of his friends, has appeared in court. Adeniyi Kayode, 46, was charged with four crimes, including death by dangerous driving.
Kayode arrived at the Sagamu Magistrates Court in Ogun state on Tuesday but the case was adjourned until February 25 as the prosecutor sought more time to gain legal advice.
During the hearing, Kayode wore a black hoodie, black shoes and trousers and did not speak. The boxer's personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami, died in the crash on December 29 near Lagos. Joshua was treated for his injuries.
Kayode faces charges of causing death by dangerous driving, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid driver's licence. He had previously been released from custody after being granted bail of 5m naira ($3,500).
Joshua has family roots in the area where he was involved in the crash, a town called Sagamu, near Lagos. The boxer was on his way to visit relatives for New Year celebrations when the Lexus SUV crashed on the busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
