Ugh man, it feels like we're back to those Cold War vibes again... remember when Reagan and Gorbachev were all about détente? Same thing with the Arctic now, Canada's all like "we got this" while Trump's over here being all meh. I mean, what happened to our buddy America? 
It's like they're trying to send a message that they don't care about global security no more... and Canada's just over here being like the cool older sibling who always has everyone's back. NATO cooperation and increased military investment, yeah sure, we can get behind that. But what's really going on? Are they gonna beef up their defenses or is this all just a show?

i mean, it's not exactly surprising that canada's committed to their own sovereignty but come on, can't the us just get its act together? 
and what's with these "thinnly veiled rebukes" - is this just another diplomatic dance or are people actually trying to convey a message without offending trump? 
It's just politics, folks. They'll allay every concern and then go back to their usual self-serving ways. Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for someone to come up with a solution that doesn't involve blowing more money on military might. We need to think outside the box (or in this case, the Arctic). 
can you believe he thinks canada isn't a priority for arctic defense? i mean, come on, who does he think is going to protect that region? canada has always been super proactive about its sovereignty and peace in the arctic, and now they're just doubling down on that commitment 
it's great to see amb Hillman speaking up and pushing back against trump's lukewarm attitude 
this stuff matters for us all, especially with all the trade disputes going on between canada and the usa
