Cardinals hire Mike LaFleur, filling NFL's last head coach vacancy

The NFL's coaching carousel finally came to an end on Sunday as the Arizona Cardinals hired Mike LaFleur, the Los Angeles Rams' offensive coordinator, on a five-year deal. The move marked the last head coaching vacancy left in the league after Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak was reportedly heading to the Las Vegas Raiders following the Super Bowl.

LaFleur's hiring is significant as it means he'll be joining another prominent Sean McVay coaching tree member, further cementing his reputation as a top prospect. The Los Angeles Rams' offense has been one of the best units in the league since LaFleur took over, ranking fifth in passing yards and first downs.

As for LaFleur's own background, he previously worked with the New York Jets under Robert Saleh and joined the 49ers regime under Kyle Shanahan while also working under Saleh. Now, he'll be tasked with leading the Cardinals to success as their new head coach.

In a statement, Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill expressed his excitement about LaFleur's hire, praising the candidate's intelligence, creativity, and leadership abilities. General manager Monti Ossenfort added that LaFleur has been around top coaches throughout his career and understands what it takes to achieve success in football.

LaFleur himself is thrilled about joining the Cardinals, saying he couldn't be more fired up for the opportunity and expressed gratitude towards Bidwill and Ossenfort. The hire is set to bring a fresh dynamic to the Cardinals' coaching staff and will likely impact the team's performance in the coming seasons.

With all head coaching positions now filled, teams can focus on building out their staffs for the 2026 NFL season, which officially begins next month.

man this hiring makes sense for LaFleur, he's proven himself under top coaches and with Saleh and Shanahan he's gotta have some good learnings from them 🤔... Cardinals need a shakeup and LaFleur brings that freshness, hope he can do something crazy with their offense 😎

🤔 so i was thinking about lafleur's hire and how it shows that sean mcvay is really making a difference in the league his guys are killing it everywhere he's got a rep for being one of the smartest OCs out there now with micheal bidwill giving him the keys to the whole operation 🚀 i wonder if lafleur can bring some of that magic to cardinals 🤞 they need someone to shake things up around there 👍 what are your thoughts on this new coaching hire? 🏈

Man I'm so down for Mike LaFleur to be leading the Cardinals 🤩. Reminds me of when Bill Callahan was in charge back in '03 - that guy knew how to whip a team into shape! But you know, I think LaFleur's got some big shoes to fill after Sean McVay's system worked so well with LA. Still, he's got that Saleh vibe going on, and if anyone can adapt to the Cardinals' style...

omg what's up with the NFL hiring process lol?! like Mike LaFleur is already proven himself as a top coach by working under the best (sean mcvay & kyle shanahan) and now he's getting his big shot with the cards... but gotta wonder, can he live up to the hype? 🤔

i mean, lafleur's been around top coaches for ages, so that's def a plus. but coaching is all about making adjustments on the fly and adapting to new situations... only time will tell if he's got what it takes to lead the cards to success 💪

and can we talk about how fast the NFL hires are? it's like they're trying to make it impossible for teams to build a cohesive staff 🕒️. but hey, at least the fans get some exciting news to look forward to 😉

omg i cant believe mike lafleur is officaly the new head coach of the az cardinals 🤩 he's literally been making waves in the nfl since he was a young coordinator and now im hyped to see what he'll do with the cardinals! 🎉 i mean, his track record at the rams offense is insane and i love how michael bidwill gave him such a big contract lol, like, five years is forever in nfl terms 😂 and i'm curious to see how he'll adapt the cardinals system since hes worked under saleh and shanahan in the past, hopefully it brings them more wins 💪

🤔 what a joke is this LaFleur guy gonna change the Cardinals from 1 win last yr to super bowl champs in like 2 yrs lol 😂 think again bud u got a 10 million salary cap to throw around 🤑 and also why didnt u get any of ur own guys from ur Jets or 49ers roots on ur staff 🤷‍♂️

I don't know... 🤔 I mean, Mike LaFleur is a total underdog, right? I mean, he's only 42 and has all this experience from working with top coaches like Robert Saleh and Kyle Shanahan 🙄. But at the same time, I'm like "wait, isn't that just a bunch of luck?" 😏. I mean, what makes him so special? Was it really his intelligence and creativity that impressed Michael Bidwill so much? 🤷‍♂️ Or was it just the fact that he's part of the Sean McVay coaching tree? 💼

And don't even get me started on the Cardinals' front office... I mean, Monti Ossenfort is basically saying that LaFleur has all the answers, but what about when things go wrong? 🤦‍♂️ Who's gonna be there to pick up the pieces and make some tough decisions? 🤔. Or maybe they're just trying to spin this as a "fresh dynamic" thing, like it's some kind of marketing gimmick 🎉? 🤑

omg I'm so hyped for Mike LaFleur 🤩! He's literally one of the most talented coaches in the league right now and I think he's gonna bring a whole new level of excitement to the Cardinals 😎. I mean, coming from the Rams' offense? 🔥 That's like getting a coach with top-tier material 💯. And I love how the GM is hyping him up 🙌, it's clear they trust his abilities and are all in on this hire 🤑. Now, can we talk about the Cardinals' chances for next season? 😆 Maybe LaFleur'll magic them into playoffs 🔮👏

I'm hyped about Mike LaFleur joining the Arizona Cardinals 🤩! He's got that #CoachLife vibe going on and I think he'll bring a fresh energy to the team 💡. The Rams' offense was fire under him last season, so I'm expecting big things from the Cards this year 🔥. It's cool to see the #SeanMcVay coaching tree having such an impact on the league 🌳. LaFleur's got some serious experience working with top coaches and GMs, so I trust he'll make smart decisions for the team 💯. Time will tell if he can lead the Cards to success, but for now, I'm all about #LaFleurInAZ 🎉

man, the NFL just finished that crazy coaching carousel thingy 🔄💨. I gotta say, Mike LaFleur is a solid choice for the Cardinals - he's got experience working with some top-notch coaches like Saleh and Shanahan 🤝. And let's be real, his time at LA Rams was 🔥... I mean, who wouldn't want to work under Sean McVay? 😂 But seriously, LaFleur seems like a smart cookie, knows what it takes to lead a team to success.

I'm kinda bummed that the Seahawks didn't snag Kubiak though 🤔. He's got some interesting connections, but I guess they wanted someone with more... LA flair 🌴. Anyway, I'm curious to see how LaFleur'll shake things up in AZ - Cardinals fans are probably holding their breaths 💀🏈

I think this move is gonna be super interesting for the Cardinals... LaFleur's got a solid track record working under top coaches like McVay and Saleh, so he knows what it takes to win 🤔. I'm curious to see how he'll mix things up in Arizona, though - can he bring that same spark from LA to the desert? 🏜️ And I love how excited everyone is about this hire... Bidwill's got a good eye for talent, and LaFleur seems like a perfect fit 👍. Fingers crossed he brings some excitement back to the Cardinals' faithful! 😊

man i'm lowkey hyped about Mike LaFleur joining the Cardinals 🤩! He's got an impressive resume and his work with the Rams offense has been straight fire 🔥. I love how he's got that Sean McVay coaching tree magic going on, it's like he's part of a secret society or something 😂. But seriously, LaFleur seems like the real deal - his experience working under Saleh and Shanahan is no joke. He's gonna bring some much-needed energy to the Cardinals' staff and I'm excited to see how they'll gel together. Now it's time for the teams to focus on building out their staffs and getting ready for 2026 🤞. LaFleur's hire feels like a fresh start for the Cardinals, let's hope he can bring that success to the desert!

So I'm thinking about LaFleur's move to Arizona... 🤔 He's gotta be excited to join a new team with fresh eyes and a clean slate. The Rams' offense was fire under his leadership last season, so I wonder if the Cardinals will be able to replicate that magic. 👀 The Cardinals' owner seems pretty sold on LaFleur's skills, which is great to see. Maybe this guy can bring some stability to the team after all the quarterback drama they've had. 💪 What do you guys think about LaFleur taking the helm in Arizona? Will he be able to make a big impact and lead them to the playoffs next season? 🏈

OMG 🤯 I'm SO stoked that Mike LaFleur is finally off the market! He's like the ultimate upgrade for the Cardinals and I'm low-key excited to see how he'll mesh with the team. The Rams' offense was insane under him last season, and now he gets to lead a new crew. 🤩 Plus, it's cool that he's joining another Sean McVay protege – it's like he's part of this secret coaching squad 😏👀 What do you guys think about the hire? Is LaFleur gonna bring some serious wins to AZ?! 💪

🤔 Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans... 😅 Just kidding! The real takeaway from this news is that Mike LaFleur is one step away from fulfilling his potential as a coach. I mean, who wouldn't want to work with some of the best minds in the game? He's got the chops and the credentials to make a real impact in Arizona. Now, let's see if he can put it all together and bring some excitement back to the Cardinals' fan base! 💪

I'm low-key hyped about Mike LaFleur joining the Cardinals 🤩🏈. His track record under Sean McVay is fire 🔥 and I love that he's got experience working with top coaches like Robert Saleh and Kyle Shanahan 💼. The Rams' offense has been a beast since he took over, so I'm expecting big things from Arizona too 🚀. LaFleur's hiring is a solid move by the Cardinals - they're building their coaching staff around talented young coaches who get it done on the field 📈. Can't wait to see how this all plays out in 2026! 🤞

Here's a quick diagram of the Rams' coaching tree:

I mean what's up with this LaFleur dude getting picked by the Cards? He's gotta be one of the most underrated coaches in the league right now 🤔. I love how the Rams' offense has been on fire since he took over though - that passing yards and first down ranking is insane! 👀. And I get why Bidwill and Ossenfort were hyped about him, the guy's got game 💡.

But seriously though, have you seen LaFleur's whole coaching tree thing going on? He's like a mini-McVay, which is already giving me life 🎉! Working with Saleh and Shanahan is no joke, that's some serious experience right there. I'm excited to see how he'll adapt his system to the Cardinals' roster though - that's gonna be interesting.

I'm kinda curious about what this means for Kubiak too... was it always a done deal going to Vegas or did something change? 🤔 Either way, teams can finally start focusing on next season and I'm here for some competitive football 😂.
