Clintons set to testify in House committee's Epstein investigation after contempt threat

House Oversight Committee Backs Down on Clinton Contempt Proceedings as Former President and Ex-Secretary of State Agree to Testify

A stunning turn of events has unfolded in the House Oversight Committee's investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, with the panel's chairman announcing that former President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary will testify after all - albeit behind closed doors.

Initially, the committee had threatened to hold both Clintons in contempt for refusing to appear before the panel. However, just hours before the vote was set to take place, the Clintons' legal team issued a letter agreeing to the committee's terms. The panel's chairman, Rep. James Comer of Kentucky, stated that "once it became clear that we would hold them in contempt, the Clintons completely caved and will appear for transcribed, filmed depositions this month."

According to Comer, Hillary Clinton will take part in a deposition on February 26th, while Bill Clinton will testify on February 27th. In a surprise move, House Republicans announced that they would put the contempt proceedings on hold to ensure the Clintons' compliance.

The decision has left many questioning how events unfolded so rapidly. Just days ago, the Clintons had been defiant, arguing that the committee's subpoenas seeking their testimony were "invalid and legally unenforceable." However, in a letter sent over the weekend, the Clintons' legal team proposed that Bill Clinton would sit for a four-hour transcribed interview in New York City, with the condition that he be restricted to matters related to the investigations into Epstein.

In contrast, Comer had rejected this offer, calling it "unreasonable." This led to Monday night's email from the Clintons' legal team, stating that they accepted the committee's terms and would appear for depositions on mutually agreeable dates.

The acceptance marks a stark turn for the Clintons, who had previously stated that they were willing to fight for their country's principles - no matter the consequences. In response to a question from CBS News, House Speaker Mike Johnson said that "contempt is on pause" while Rep. Comer stated that contempt was still an option, albeit one he hoped wouldn't need to be exercised.

As the investigation into Epstein continues, many questions remain unanswered. The Clintons' declarations submitted to the committee have revealed some intriguing details about their interactions with Epstein and his associates. Notably, both Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton claimed not to recall any specific encounters with the late financier or Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a prison sentence on sex trafficking charges.

Despite this, both Clintons maintained that they had no knowledge of Epstein's criminal activities and denied taking any action to help him avoid scrutiny. The extent to which these claims will be scrutinized remains to be seen, as the investigation into Epstein continues to unravel its complex web of scandals.

omg 🤯 i'm literally shook about this update! so like bill & hillary just kinda agreed to testify behind closed doors lol i dont get why they were being so resistant in the first place, didnt they know they'd get caught eventually? 😂 anywayz, i think its kinda shady that they accepted the committee's terms after all the drama. maybe theres more 2 the story than meets the eye? 🤔

🤔 come on guys... who do you think pulled the strings here? Rep Comer or the Clintons' legal team? It's all very convenient that they suddenly agreed to testify after being called out for contempt. And what's with the closed-door depositions? Are we really supposed to believe they're just going through the motions now? 🙄 I mean, I guess it's better than having them held in contempt, but still... seems like a pretty clear deal to me 🤑

I'm so over this whole thing 🙄. Can't believe they got away with it so easily 💸. I mean, come on Rep Comer is basically saying "we'll let you testify if you agree to what we want" 🤷‍♂️. And now they're getting off scot-free behind closed doors 🔒. It's like the whole thing was rigged from the start 👀. And don't even get me started on the Clintons' weird excuses about not remembering any specific encounters with Epstein... like, seriously? 🙄. I need to see some actual evidence before I believe them 😐. This whole investigation is just a mess and I'm so done with it 💔.

I'm low-key shocked what just went down 🤯. The Clintons were like "we're gonna fight for our country's principles" and now they're just gonna testify behind closed doors 😴. I mean, I get it, they didn't wanna mess with Comer but still... it's all a bit suspicious, if you ask me 👀. What really got my attention was the part about them not recalling any encounters with Epstein 🤔. Is that just an answer to avoid scrutiny or what? Anyway, this is definitely an interesting turn of events 💬. You can read more about it here: [https://cbsnews.com/news/clinton-co...nton-contempt-hearing-epstein-investigation/) 👉

omg u guys can u believe this?? so after weeks of drama and threats they finally agreed to testify 🙄 and get on with it already!! i mean i know the Clintons are not happy about this but come on, better late than never right? 💁‍♀️ and honestly i'm still trying to figure out what's going on with bill & hillary's stories... like why did they claim they didn't remember anything about epstein?! 🤔 seems suspicious to me. anyway can't wait to see how this all unfolds 👀

🤔 I'm not surprised that Bill and Hillary Clinton finally agreed to testify behind closed doors 🚫. It's all about avoiding a public showdown and maintaining control over their narrative 💁‍♀️. The whole thing feels like a game of cat and mouse, with the committee trying to get them to spill the beans on Epstein's dealings 🤐. But we all know how that usually ends – with more questions than answers 🔍. I'm curious to see what comes out of these depositions, but I wouldn't count on any real revelations 😒. The Clintons have a history of dodging hard-hitting questions, and I'm not expecting this investigation to be any different 🙅‍♂️.

omg what a crazy turn of events 🤯! i mean, i was totally on the side of the house oversight committee thinking they'd have it out with bill & hillary clinton over this jeffrey epstein thing 🤑 but now they're just gonna let them walk in behind closed doors 👀? sounds like the republicans are giving 'em a free pass 🎉. i'm still not sure what's going on here, but it's def making me wanna shake my head 😩. one minute they're all "we'll fight for our country's principles" 💪 and the next they're saying "hey, can we just do this deposition thingy"? 🤷‍♀️

I'm so over these closed-door depositions 🙄. Can't we have a real discussion about what's going on here? It feels like the Clintons are just trying to avoid accountability and the committee is letting them off easy 😒. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's not like they're hiding anything or anything... but come on, transparency, right? 🙃

🤔 I'm still trying to wrap my head around this turn of events 🤯. It's crazy how fast things changed for Bill and Hillary Clinton 👀. One minute they were defying the committee and saying their subpoenas were invalid, and the next they're agreeing to testify behind closed doors 📝. What really got me is that it was a swift response from their legal team after Comer rejected their proposal 🤷‍♂️. It's almost like they knew the game was up 😅.

I'm curious to see how much of this testimony will actually get revealed 💬. Will we finally find out what really went on between Clinton and Epstein? 🤑 The fact that both Clintons claimed not to recall specific encounters is pretty suspicious 🤔. And what about all these dealings with Ghislaine Maxwell? Is there more to the story than meets the eye 🔮?

It's also interesting how this whole thing has been played out like a drama play 🎭. The swift backdown from Clinton, the sudden change of heart, and now they're just going to testify and move on... it all feels a bit too orchestrated for my taste 📺.

OMG u wont bliev wut just happend 🤯! So like, ther was this huge drama goin on wen bill & hillary clinton were gonna be held in contempt for not testifying 🚫, but then they just suddenly agreed 2 comply 🙏. Like, it's so weird cuz they had been super defiant jus days b4 that 😂. Anyways, its all good now & depositions r gonna happen 💼... behind closed doors tho 🤐. So like, we still dont no much about whats goin on with epstein but its def intresting 2 c how this plays out 🤔

🤔 gotta wonder what made them cave so fast 🤷‍♂️. I mean, initially they were all like "no way, we're not testifying" and now they're like "okay fine, we'll play by your rules 😒". Guess the threat of contempt proceedings really got their attention 💸. But still, gotta ask what's really going on here 🤔. Are they telling the truth about not knowing anything about Epstein or is there more to it than meets the eye? 🤐

I'm low-key surprised that the Clintons agreed to testify behind closed doors 🤔👀. I mean, I get it, they're not happy about the whole situation, but come on, 4-hour transcribed interview? That's a pretty big deal 😅. And what's up with them claiming they can't recall any encounters with Epstein? It just seems like they're trying to spin this one 🤷‍♂️. I'm curious to see how this whole thing plays out now that the contempt proceedings are on hold 🕰️. Maybe we'll get some real answers out of these depositions 💬.

can we believe anything these two are saying now? they just went from total defiance to total compliance in like 2 days 🙄. it's kinda suspicious that they accepted the committee's terms without even a fight. and what's with the closed-door depositions? doesn't anyone want to know what really goes on behind those doors? 🤐

🤔 just when you think things are going one way, they go another 🔄 like what's really going on behind closed doors with the Clintons? 🤑 are we supposed to believe they don't recall anything about their dealings with epstein? 🙄 and now they're just gonna sit down for a deposition behind closed doors... sounds sketchy 😏

Ugh 🤯 I'm so done with this whole situation. Can't they just get on with it already? First, Comer backs down on contempt proceedings and now everyone's just moving forward like nothing ever happened 🙄. And what's up with the closed-door depositions? Are we really supposed to believe that's going to be some sort of transparency? Give me a break 🤷‍♂️. I mean, I get it, the Clintons didn't want to risk contempt charges, but come on, is this really how politics works now? Behind-the-scenes deals and secret testimony? It's like they're hiding something or two... which, let's be real, is probably true 🤑

I gotta say, this whole thing is a great lesson in flexibility 🤯... I mean, think about it, initially the Clintons were all like "no way, we're not gonna show up" but then things changed and they came crawling back 🙅‍♂️. It's like when life presents us with unexpected twists, we gotta roll with the punches and adapt 💪. Sometimes you gotta swallow your pride and compromise to get what you want... or in this case, avoid some potential drama 🔥. It's all about finding that balance between standing up for yourself and being willing to work with others 🤝. The question is, will their testimony shed more light on the Epstein scandal, or just keep it under wraps 🤔?

🤔 just when you think you know how something is gonna go down... turns out Clintons are all about compliance now 🙄. guess that's what happens when you're backed into a corner 💼. anyway, seems like they're willing to spill the tea on their epstein dealings 😊. hope it leads to some real answers about what was going on behind closed doors 📝.

idk how this is gonna play out 🤔 but i'm low-key impressed that bill & hillary are willing to face the music after all. it's def weird tho that they only agreed to testify behind closed doors tho 🚫 like what are we hiding from? anyway, i hope they come clean about their interactions with epstein & his associates cuz this whole thing is getting pretty shady 😒

I'm so done with the whole thing 🤯. Can we please just move on from this Epstein drama already? It's been dragged out for years and it's getting old. I mean, come on, Bill and Hillary Clinton are going to testify behind closed doors... what exactly do they have to hide? 🤔 And can we please stop making a big deal about the Clintons' "country principles" and just focus on the facts? 🙄 It's all so frustrating. The whole thing feels like a circus and I'm not buying it. Behind-the-scenes depositions aren't going to cut it - let's get some real answers out in the open! 💬
