COP30 fire: BBC at the scene of 'intense' blaze

"Huge columns of smoke billowed out of the pavilion area at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil, as flames engulfed a venue where delegates were gathered for talks on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

BBC journalists witnessed the intense blaze and were quickly ushered outside, while 13 people treated for smoke inhalation following the six-minute fire that broke out at the conference venue. No cause of the fire has been reported yet.

The evacuation came as world leaders struggled to make headway in negotiations aimed at reaching a deal on climate change mitigation, with many countries already feeling the effects of extreme weather events and rising temperatures worldwide."

I don't know if it's good or bad that the UN conference got interrupted like this 🤔. On one hand, I'm really worried about all the delegates who might have been affected by the smoke inhalation – 13 people is a lot! 🚑 And it's crazy that the fire started in just six minutes... that's so fast! ⏱️ But at the same time, I think this whole thing could be an opportunity for world leaders to step up their game and make some real progress on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Maybe the chaos will bring them together and they'll finally get something done 🤞. Wait, no... probably not – it's always more complicated than that 🙄.

OMG, WHAT'S HAPPENING AT COP30?!?! 😱 this is totally not what we needed right now. first the world's biggest problem, climate change, and now a massive fire at the UN conference 🚒💥 it's like the universe is trying to tell us something... that we're running out of time to act on this 🕰️ seriously though, 13 people were treated for smoke inhalation? that's crazy! 🤯 i hope no one was badly hurt. and now the negotiations are basically stalled due to this huge distraction 😔 fingers crossed that world leaders can get back on track ASAP and make some real progress on reducing greenhouse gas emissions ⚡️ we need it more than ever!

🤯 just saw that crazy fire at COP30 in Brazil... smoke everywhere 😷 hope everyone involved is okay! i feel like these kinds of disasters should be preventable, you know? 🙄 climate change is real, let's focus on tech solutions to reduce emissions & carbon footprint. 🌎 we can't rely on just governments to make a difference, we need innovation & collaboration too 💡

😱 just saw this on my feed and it's so scary! like, what's going on? 🤔 the UN conference is all about taking care of our planet, right? but a fire breaks out in one of the pavilions... it's just not the vibe we need rn. i hope everyone got out safely 🙏 and that they can get this sorted out ASAP. like, we're already dealing with some crazy weather stuff, do we really need more chaos? 🌪️ gotta be careful with those kinds of things...

Ugh, I was just watching that COP30 conference thingy online earlier... you know what's crazy? Have you tried those new plant-based milk alternatives they're selling now at my local grocery store 🥛? Like, I'm not saying it's gonna save the planet or anything, but it's definitely a step in the right direction, you know? And have you seen those adorable little coffee cups made out of compostable materials? Sooo cute! 😊 Anyway, back to COP30... like, what's up with these massive smoke bombs just popping up outta nowhere? You'd think they'd have some fire safety protocols in place or something 🤔. Oh wait, I know what would be a great idea – let's get some more trees planted and that'll solve all our problems! 🌳💚

OMG you guys its just like they say things cant get any crazier than this lol fire literally breaks out at UN climate conference in brazil what even is that?! i mean i know we all been talking about climate change for years now but to actually see it in action like this is just insane 😱. and of course the timing is so bad too with world leaders trying to hammer out a deal on emissions reduction and what happens? someone sets fire to the venue 🤯. seriously though how are you supposed to negotiate on climate change when your own conference building is literally burning down?! its like the universe is just messing with us at this point 😂. i mean im no expert but its hard not to think that human error or some sort of equipment malfunction could be to blame here 🤔. anyway idk what the cause is but one thing is for sure its a major distraction from the real issue at hand 👀💥

😱 just saw that crazy news about COP30 and I gotta say, it's like, super concerning. can't believe fire broke out in a conference where ppl are tryna save the planet lol. what's even more worrying is that smoke inhalation affected 13 people 🤕, imagine if it was worse... anyway, hope everyone involved is okay & that this incident doesn't set back climate talks 😔. gotta wonder what caused the fire tho 🤔, maybe some electrical issue or something? anyhoo, just a reminder to all us stay-at-home productivity experts out there: always keep an eye on our surroundings & have a plan B ready ⏰!

🤣 can't believe this is happening at COP30... like, what's next? a wildfire at the Olympics or something. but for real tho, 13 people treated for smoke inhalation and no cause of fire reported yet? that's sketchy fam. how do you even get 6 minutes of flames going without anyone noticing? some ppl musta been playing with matches in the bathrooms lol. seriously though, this is like, super bad timing, world leaders trying to make deals about climate change and then BAM! a huge fire breaks out. maybe this is what they need, a little reality check, right?
