Senator Ted Cruz is leading a push in the Senate to hold China accountable for its crackdown on Christians, with a new resolution condemning the Chinese Communist Party's persecution of Christians. The resolution states that "the CCP's actions mark the largest coordinated, nationwide crackdown against a Christian urban house church in more than 40 years."
Cruz has expressed his concern about the situation, stating, "The Chinese Communist Party is conducting yet another sweeping crackdown on Christians, and they are again targeting Pastor Jin and the Zion Church. The CCP fears anything it cannot directly control, perhaps most of all, faith."
In addition to condemning China's actions, the resolution also includes a demand that the Chinese government respect the human right to freedom of religion and end all forms of violence and discrimination against religious minorities.
Pastor Jin Mingri, who is the pastor of one of China's biggest underground evangelical churches and whose children are US citizens, was recently detained by Chinese authorities. His daughter, Grace, expressed gratitude for Cruz's efforts, stating that his work demonstrates the world is watching as the Chinese government unjustly imprisons pastors and church leaders for the peaceful exercise of their faith.
The resolution has been endorsed by Senator Shelley Moore Capito, who stated that "the Chinese Communist Partyβs campaign of repression against Christians, including the targeting of churches such as the Zion Church, is a violation of fundamental religious freedom rights."
This move comes amid a broader crackdown on Christian leaders in China, with nearly 30 pastors and workers detained or missing across various cities. The fates of Mingri and other arrested Christian leaders remain uncertain.
The resolution aims to express the US government's global commitment to promoting religious freedom and tolerance, while also acknowledging China's human rights abuses.

I'm thinking we should be more careful about how we talk about these kinda issues... like, what if it escalates into a bigger conflict between nations?

this is really crazy how China is dealing with Christians. I mean, 40 years without a coordinated crackdown on urban house churches is just insane
this is really crazy how China is dealing with Christians. I mean, 40 years without a coordinated crackdown on urban house churches is just insane . It's like they're trying to take away people's freedom of faith and it's not okay. The US Senate should be all over this, you know?
