Elon Musk's Twitter bird has been replaced with a Shiba Inu, sparking a surge in the value of Dogecoin, the cryptocurrency at the center of a lawsuit against the Tesla CEO.
Musk tweeted "as promised" alongside an image of a year-old conversation where another user suggested he buy Twitter and change the logo to a doge. The move came just days after Musk asked a judge to dismiss a $258 billion racketeering lawsuit, which claims he's running a pyramid scheme to support Dogecoin.
Lawyers for Musk and Tesla have dismissed the lawsuit as "a fanciful work of fiction" over Musk's tweets about Dogecoin, calling them "innocuous and often silly." However, this latest move seems to be taking aim at his critics - or perhaps just his fans.
It remains unclear whether the logo change is permanent, as Musk has a history of using Twitter to troll both supporters and detractors. Nonetheless, Dogecoin's value saw a more than 20% surge over the past 24 hours, now trading for around 9 cents.
Dogecoin itself was created in December 2013 by two software engineers as a joke, with its name paying homage to an "internet meme." The Shiba Inu logo is reminiscent of this meme, featuring a dog surrounded by Comic Sans text in broken English.

. Like, I get that Elon's just trying to stir the pot and keep things interesting on Twitter, but seriously, who thought it was a good idea to tie his brand so closely with a meme from 2013?

20% surge in value? that's a pretty sweet reward for being an internet meme The thing is, Dogecoin's history is pretty funny - created as a joke in 2013? It just goes to show how internet trends can take off and become more than we expected

either way, let's not forget that true value comes from within, not from some tweet or logo change
