Elon Musk’s Twitter promised a purge of blue check marks. Instead he singled out one account | CNN Business

🤔 I'm not sure if Elon Musk is trying to stir up drama or genuinely shake things up on Twitter. This move seems like a classic case of "opposite day" – instead of targeting high-profile users who pay for blue checks, he took down the one publication that wouldn't shell out for it. It's almost as if he wanted to create chaos and make everyone wonder what's next 🤷‍♂️.

The fact that other verified accounts like those from The New York Times' arts and travel teams were spared tells me that there might be some wiggle room in Musk's decision-making process. On the other hand, it also highlights how unpredictable his actions can be – one day you're blue-checked, the next you're not 📉.

It's hard to say whether this change will have a positive impact on reducing impersonation or just drive more users to sign up for Twitter Blue in hopes of retaining their coveted badges. Either way, I'm watching with bated breath to see how Musk navigates this tricky situation 👀.

lol what's up with Elon Musk and his tweet-tweaking skills 🤣👀 he starts a purge of blue checks and then just picks one random account (NYT) to hit with it... like "sorry NYT, your coverage is boring" 😂📰 i mean who gets called out for being boring by the guy who's basically running Twitter? anyway, this whole thing is super confusing, especially since The Times' other accounts are still verified 🤔 gold check or blue, doesn't really matter at this point... just making it harder to tell who's legit and who's not 💸👀

I gotta say, this whole thing is pretty wild 🤯! I mean, Elon Musk's trying to make Twitter more "equal" and all that, but it just ends up being a fancy way of saying he wants to control the narrative himself 😂. And now that they've messed with The New York Times' blue check mark, it's like they're playing a game of whack-a-mole where every time you knock one down, three more pop up in its place 🤯.

And can we talk about how ridiculous this whole thing is? Like, who loses their blue check mark over a meme? It just goes to show that Musk is all about stirring up drama and trying to get attention for himself 💁‍♂️. The problem with verifying paid users is that it's already hard enough to keep scammers at bay; now they're making it easier for them by messing with the verification system 🚮.

I'm not sure what's next, but one thing's for sure: this whole situation has me shaking my head and muttering "only on Twitter" 😂.
