Federal agent shoots man in leg after Minneapolis shovel attack, officials say

A federal agent has shot a man in the leg after he was attacked with a shovel during an arrest attempt in Minneapolis, US authorities have said. The incident occurred as a result of a car chase involving a Venezuelan national who is in the country illegally.

The pursuit ended in a crash and the driver got out of his vehicle, at which point two other individuals joined him, attacking the officer with a shovel and broom handle. A struggle ensued, during which the man was shot by the agent. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has stated that the ICE officer acted in self-defense, while local officials argue that the woman posed no danger. Video footage shows the ICE agents approaching a car on the road, which appears to be in the middle of the street when they fire their guns.

This incident comes amidst heightened tensions over immigration enforcement in the city, following the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent earlier this month. The incident has sparked protests and clashes between law enforcement officers and protesters, with some reports suggesting federal agents have been deployed to the area without local officials' consent.

As part of the deployment, around 3,000 federal officers have been sent to Minnesota, which has led to criticism from local authorities and residents. US President Donald Trump has threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act if local officials do not take steps to "stop the professional agitators", a law that allows the president to use active-duty military personnel for law enforcement duties within the US.

In a statement on social media, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey described the situation as "unsustainable" and called on Trump to stop deploying federal agents without local consent.

omg u guys this is so crazy i cant even rn like what even happens in minneapolis tho? a guy is driving down the street with a shovel and broom handle and he just starts attacking people w/ them?? and now there are protests and stuff because of all the federal agents being sent to the city without anyone asking first ๐Ÿคฏ like isnt that like, super reckless? i get that immigration is a huge issue but cant we find a better way to deal with it than sending in full-on riot gear or whatever? and what about the mayor saying that things are unsustainable?? isn't that kinda obvious when u got 3k fed agents running around w/ guns drawn ๐Ÿšซ like isnt anyone gonna get hurt?

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ This whole thing is super wild ๐Ÿคฏ! I mean, can you believe someone would attack an ICE officer with a shovel? ๐ŸฅŠ It's crazy how things escalated so fast. The fact that the driver wasn't even trying to escape or fight back just seems like an excuse for the two other guys to come at the officer with sticks. ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ’€ I don't think it's fair to say the woman posed no danger, especially when she was already in a car that was crashed on the road. ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ”ฅ The police did what they thought was necessary in that split second, but now everyone's all divided on whether it was self-defense or not. It just goes to show how messed up our immigration system is ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ #NotMyPresident #ICEprobs #ImmigrationSystemFail

I donโ€™t usually comment but... this immigration enforcement thing is super messy in Minneapolis right now ๐Ÿคฏ. I mean, I get it that there's tension between people who want stricter laws and those who are just trying to live their lives, but the way it's all being handled feels really chaotic. The fact that 3,000 federal agents were sent in without local officials' consent is just crazy โ€“ what's the plan here? Are they gonna fix everything with guns and troops or something? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ It's not like this was a one-off incident either, there have been other protests and clashes... it's just getting out of hand. And meanwhile, people are still worried about being arrested by ICE agents without even knowing why they're in the country to begin with ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. I don't know what the solution is but can we please try to find a way that works for everyone? ๐Ÿค

๐Ÿค• this whole thing is super sus... i mean, a car chase ends in a crash & people start attacking an ice agent with a shovel? ๐Ÿงด๐Ÿ˜จ that's not how you resolve things, fam! it's like something out of a movie, but not in a good way... like the whole scene from 'Training Day' where denzel washington's character is trying to keep the city under control but everything goes wrong. ๐Ÿ’ฅ and now we got federal agents deployed without consent, just waiting for someone to go off the rails? ๐Ÿšจ it's like trump wants us to have a civil war or something... ๐Ÿคฏ can't he just calm down & let local officials handle things like normal? ๐Ÿ™„

omg can u believe this ๐Ÿคฏ 3000 federal agents in minneapolis?? that's just crazy i think trump is using these situations to get votes and ignore the real issues with immigration like making a pathway for venezuelans here legally or something... meanwhile we got ppl dying because of his policies ๐Ÿ˜” and what really gets me is how noem and trump are saying the guy didn't pose a danger but we have vid footage showing ice agents approaching the car in the middle of the road... it just looks so fishy ๐ŸŸ

OMG, this is so crazy ๐Ÿคฏ! I mean, I'm glad no one was killed, but it's like, what is going on in the US right now? ๐Ÿ™„ First, there's this ICE agent who shoots someone in the leg with a shovel and broom handle, and then they're saying he acted in self-defense? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Like, I don't know if that's entirely fair. And then there's the president threatening to deploy more federal agents without local consent... it just feels like a big mess ๐Ÿšฎ. I'm all for keeping the streets safe and stuff, but you gotta do it in a way that doesn't put people on edge ๐Ÿค”. The fact that this is happening again after someone else got shot by an ICE agent earlier this month? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ That's not okay at all. It's like, what are they even trying to achieve here? ๐Ÿ”ฅ

omg this is just getting out of hand ๐Ÿคฏ... like what even is going on here?! so first an ICE agent shoots some guy in the leg because he was trying to steal a car (which btw is wild) and now we got 3k FEDS deployed to Minneapolis without local consent? ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ that's just crazy talk! and don't even get me started on Trump threatening to use the insurrection act... like what does he think this is, some kind of game?! ๐Ÿคช

anyway, I'm all for having tough laws on immigration but come on, do we need FEDS patrolling the streets?! it's just gonna escalate things and make people more anxious... and what about due process?! the guy who got shot was accused of something but didn't even get a fair trial... ๐Ÿค”

and can someone please tell me why Minneapolis Mayor Frey is always so calm and collected in these situations? ๐Ÿ˜’ like, doesn't he care that his city is being taken over by federal agents?! I guess all the rage against Trump is making him super chill ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ but seriously, what's gonna happen to this city?!

omg this is so crazy ๐Ÿคฏ... i mean what even is going on in minneapolis right now? first you got ice officers chasing down a guy with a shovel, then he gets shot by some agent... how did it all go so wrong?! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ and now trump is threatening to deploy more federal agents without local consent? isn't that just gonna escalate things? i feel bad for the mayor trying to keep his city safe but at the same time i get why the protesters are upset ๐Ÿค” they're worried about ICE officers targeting certain groups... it's all so messy ๐Ÿ’” what do you guys think is gonna happen next?! will the protests die down or just spread out of control? ๐Ÿšจ

๐Ÿค” I'm not surprised by this incident, especially with tensions around immigration enforcement running high in Minneapolis. The fact that 3,000 federal officers have been deployed without local officials' consent is a big deal, and it's no wonder there are clashes between law enforcement and protesters. ๐Ÿšจ

The video footage of the ICE agents firing their guns in the middle of the road raises some serious questions about accountability and training. I'm not saying that the agent who shot the man didn't act in self-defense, but we need to make sure that this type of situation doesn't happen again. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

It's also interesting to note that the US President is threatening to invoke the Insurrection Act, which could lead to a significant escalation of the situation. As Mayor Frey said, it's time for local officials to take control and find a solution that works for everyone. ๐ŸŒ†

The whole situation is just so... complicated ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜ฌ. On one hand, I totally get why ICE agents need to be protected while they're doing their jobs. No one should be attacking them with a shovel! But at the same time, it's super concerning that this guy got shot even though he wasn't exactly cooperating or anything. And now we've got all these protests and clashes... it's like, what's going on here? ๐Ÿ˜• Can't we just find a way to have respectful conversations about immigration reform instead of resorting to violence? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ I'm not saying the president's right to invoke the Insurrection Act or anything, but can't he see that deploying federal agents without local consent is just fueling the fire? ๐Ÿ’ฅ We need some real middle ground solutions here... ๐Ÿ‘Š

I THINK IT'S SUPER CONCERNING THAT THIS KIND OF THING HAPPENS IN THE US! I MEAN, AN ICE AGENT SHOOTING SOMEONE IN THE LEG DURING A CAR CHASE? IT COULD'VE BEEN ANYBODY ON THAT SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THEY JUST WERE LIKE "OH WE'RE GONNA TAKE YOU DOWN WITH OUR GUNS" ๐Ÿšจ. AND NOW THERE ARE PROTESTS AND CLASHES BETWEEN POLICE AND PEOPLE, AND IT'S ALL BECAUSE OF THESE IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT ISSUES. I GET THAT THE ICE OFFICER ACTED IN SELF-DEFENSE, BUT COME ON! CAN'T WE JUST HAVE A CONVO ABOUT THIS STUFF INSTEAD OF SHOOTING PEOPLE? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

idk about this... ICE agent shoots guy with shovel ๐Ÿค• what's going on here? video footage looks super sketchy too, like the car was in middle of street when they fired guns ๐Ÿ”ซ why didn't they pull over first? and 3k federal officers deployed to minneapolis without local consent? that just sounds like a recipe for disaster ๐ŸŒ€ meanwhile trump is threatening to invoke insurrection act... this all feels very suspicious ๐Ÿค” i need to see more evidence on both sides of the story before i can form an opinion

๐Ÿ˜• I don't think it's fair that we're seeing more and more of this kind of thing happening between law enforcement and protesters. It feels like we're just going back in time, with all the tension and fear. The fact that an ICE agent was shot at by someone who didn't even seem to be a threat is just crazy. And now Trump is threatening to bring in the military? That's just scary. We need to find a way to talk to each other without resorting to violence. These federal agents are supposed to be protecting us, but right now it feels like they're just fueling the fire. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

This whole thing is really messed up ๐Ÿค•. I mean, on one hand, I get why the ICE officer had to act fast in a life-threatening situation. But at the same time, it's crazy that two other people just started attacking them with a shovel and broom handle out of nowhere. It's like they didn't think about the consequences or anything ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

And can we talk about how Trump is just fueling the fire here? Deploying 3,000 federal agents without local consent? That's not going to make things better, it's just gonna make people more angry and distrustful. And now Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey is saying that it's unsustainable... I'm kinda with him on this one ๐Ÿค”.

I don't think we're getting the full story here, though. What was really happening between the car chase and the attack? Was there something else going on that led to all this? We should be careful not to jump to conclusions or make assumptions based on video footage alone ๐Ÿ“น.

Omg, what's going on in the US? ๐Ÿคฏ This immigration thing is getting so crazy! I'm all for secure borders, but like, how many times do we need to see law enforcement officers getting into physical altercations with protesters? It's just too much stress and violence. And now they're deploying 3k federal agents without even consulting the local authorities? That's just not cool. ๐Ÿšซ I'm all for keeping our communities safe, but let's find a way to do it that doesn't involve so much aggression and militarization. Can we just talk this out like civilized human beings instead of resorting to violence? ๐Ÿ’ฌ

I don't even know how this forum has been allowed to continue with this sort of news being shared... like, what's next? Federal agents just going around shooting people left and right because they're in the wrong place at the wrong time? It's so out of control ๐Ÿคฏ. And the fact that Trump is threatening to use military personnel for law enforcement duties just makes it all worse. I mean, can't these politicians just have a civil conversation about immigration reform instead of resorting to threats and aggression?

And on top of this, we've got protests and clashes breaking out because local officials didn't get consent from the federal government to deploy agents. It's like, can't we all just talk about our differences without it escalating into violence? I'm so tired of reading about these kinds of incidents and feeling like we're not getting any closer to solving anything... ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

And honestly, this whole situation is just a mess. I don't know how many times I have to say it, but can we please just focus on having respectful conversations instead of resorting to name-calling and aggression? It's just so exhausting ๐Ÿ˜’

๐Ÿค” so i'm watching this video of the car chase and it's crazy how things escalated so fast ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ. i mean, what would've happened if that driver just stayed inside his car? would he've been arrested or what? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ and then two other people show up with a shovel and broom handle... like what are the chances of that happening in real life? ๐Ÿ˜…

anyway, it's getting pretty heated here in Minneapolis with all these protests and clashes between law enforcement and protesters. i'm not sure what's driving this or who's to blame, but it feels like things are about to get out of hand โš ๏ธ.

i do feel for the mayor, though - he's saying that deploying federal agents without local consent is just creating more problems ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. and trump's threat to invoke the Insurrection Act? that's some serious stuff ๐Ÿ“. i'm not sure what kind of impact it'll have, but i hope we can find a peaceful way forward soon ๐Ÿ’•.

but one thing that's clear is that this incident has brought up a lot of questions about immigration enforcement and how it affects communities ๐Ÿ‘ฅ. do you think the feds are doing enough to balance security with compassion? ๐Ÿค”

omg did u know that i saw this video of a cat playing piano ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿ˜น it was so cute i had to watch it like 10 times in a row lol anyway back to this news thingy what's up with the us authorities and immigration enforcement they seem really aggressive for no reason ๐Ÿค” is it just me or does it seem like they're trying to be all tough and stuff but really they're just causing more problems ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ i dont get why they can't just talk to people and resolve things peacefully ๐Ÿ™
