A federal agent has shot a man in the leg after he was attacked with a shovel during an arrest attempt in Minneapolis, US authorities have said. The incident occurred as a result of a car chase involving a Venezuelan national who is in the country illegally.
The pursuit ended in a crash and the driver got out of his vehicle, at which point two other individuals joined him, attacking the officer with a shovel and broom handle. A struggle ensued, during which the man was shot by the agent. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.
US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has stated that the ICE officer acted in self-defense, while local officials argue that the woman posed no danger. Video footage shows the ICE agents approaching a car on the road, which appears to be in the middle of the street when they fire their guns.

US President Donald Trump has threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act if local officials do not take steps to "stop the professional agitators", a law that allows the president to use active-duty military personnel for law enforcement duties within the US.
In a statement on social media, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey described the situation as "unsustainable" and called on Trump to stop deploying federal agents without local consent.

like isnt that like, super reckless? i get that immigration is a huge issue but cant we find a better way to deal with it than sending in full-on riot gear or whatever? and what about the mayor saying that things are unsustainable?? isn't that kinda obvious when u got 3k fed agents running around w/ guns drawn

This whole thing is super wild 
It's crazy how things escalated so fast. The fact that the driver wasn't even trying to escape or fight back just seems like an excuse for the two other guys to come at the officer with sticks. 
I don't think it's fair to say the woman posed no danger, especially when she was already in a car that was crashed on the road. 
The police did what they thought was necessary in that split second, but now everyone's all divided on whether it was self-defense or not. It just goes to show how messed up our immigration system is

It's not like this was a one-off incident either, there have been other protests and clashes... it's just getting out of hand. And meanwhile, people are still worried about being arrested by ICE agents without even knowing why they're in the country to begin with 
. I don't know what the solution is but can we please try to find a way that works for everyone?

that's not how you resolve things, fam! it's like something out of a movie, but not in a good way... like the whole scene from 'Training Day' where denzel washington's character is trying to keep the city under control but everything goes wrong.

and what really gets me is how noem and trump are saying the guy didn't pose a danger but we have vid footage showing ice agents approaching the car in the middle of the road... it just looks so fishy
