Federal judge orders immigration facility in Chicago to improve its conditions – live

A federal judge has ordered the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Broadview, Illinois, just outside Chicago, to improve its conditions. The order came after detainees sued the facility, claiming they were being held in "inhumane" and crowded conditions with inadequate sanitation and hygiene facilities. The judge, Robert Gettleman, found the evidence highly credible and ordered ICE to provide detainees with clean bedding, toilet facilities, showers every day, and access to adequate soap, toilet paper, and other hygiene products.

This is not the first time concerns have been raised about the treatment of detainees at this facility, which has been the site of anti-ICE protests. In recent months, there have been reports of overflowing toilets, inadequate food, and unsanitary conditions.

The judge's order is a temporary restraining order that will remain in effect until November 19th, when there will be another hearing on the case. The Trump administration had argued that the facility was not violating any laws or regulations, but the judge rejected this argument, saying that the evidence presented by the detainees was "very credible".

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has been making public statements about the election results, which are showing strong support for Democrats across the country. However, he seems to be struggling with his own message, and his recent comments have been met with confusion and criticism.

In Miami, Trump gave a speech that some saw as more like a campaign rally than a serious address. He praised Republican lawmakers who supported him but attacked Democratic leaders, saying they wanted to "end the Trump administration". When asked about Zohran Mamdani's historic win in New York City, Trump seemed unsure and offered words of encouragement, but also made clear that he wants to help Republicans hold onto their seats.

In other news, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is planning to cut 10% of flights at major airports if a deal isn't reached on the government shutdown. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said this reduction in service could come as soon as Friday and will affect 40 high-volume traffic markets.

The Republican party has also filed a lawsuit challenging a new redistricting measure in California, which could help Democrats flip up to five congressional seats. The suit argues that the maps were drawn to increase the voting power of a particular racial group, but Democrats are confident that the maps will withstand legal challenge.

In a separate development, Maine Democratic Representative Jared Golden announced that he will not seek re-election in 2025, citing increasing civility and nastiness from his opponents.

🤔 So like I was reading this about ICE facility in Illinois and it's all super concerning... people are being held in bad conditions with no showers or clean bedding, it's just gross 🚽💦. And then the judge steps in and orders them to fix it, which is awesome, but also kinda late, you know? 🕰️. I mean, who gets treated like that in this country? It's not right, regardless of politics 🤷‍♀️.

And on a separate note, Trump seems super lost right now... his speeches are all over the place and people aren't sure what to make of them 😂. Like, is he trying to help Republicans or just stir up drama? And with the FAA cutting flights because of the shutdown, it's gonna be a real mess for travelers ⛔️.

Oh, and Jared Golden quitting his seat? That's kinda surprising... I guess we'll see how that shakes out in 2025 🤞. Anyway, gotta keep an eye on these developments! 👀

.. this is crazy 🤯. I mean, we're living in a time where detainees are being held in "inhumane" conditions and now the court is forcing ICE to improve it 💪. It's about time someone checked those detention centers for real. And let me tell you, if they can't even get that right, how do we expect them to handle something as serious as immigration reform? 🤔

But anyway, back to Trump... dude needs to figure out his message already 🙄. He goes to a speech in Miami and it's like he's trying to rally the base instead of talking about actual issues 📰. I get it, we need more Republicans to hold onto their seats, but can't he just be serious for once? 😒

And on a completely unrelated note, did you see that Jared Golden is stepping down? Good luck with that, Maine... you're gonna miss him 💔

I'm telling you, this whole Trump thing is getting weird 🤯. The guy's trying to hold on but it's like he's stuck in a never-ending loop of 'what do I say now?' 😂 And those anti-ICE protests have been going on for months, you'd think people would get some answers by now... not holding out hope though 🤞

But seriously, can't we just focus on the future? Like that Maine rep Jared Golden saying he's not seeking re-election because of all the negativity in politics 🙄. It's time for a change, right? We need more people like him who are willing to stand up and say enough is enough 💪

ugh this is soooo messed up 🤯 ICE facility in Illinois has to fix its filthy conditions...like what even is the point of holding people in overcrowded cells with no showers? 🚽 and don't even get me started on the sanitation part...it's like they're literally trying to break people's spirits.

i mean i'm glad some ppl are speaking out against this, but can't we just have humane treatment for all ppl regardless of their immigration status? 🤷‍♀️ it's not that hard. and now with trump making these super confusing comments...idk what's going on in his head anymore 🙃

ICE facility order 🤝💪 I'm glad to see some progress on improving living conditions for detainees at this facility. It's been going on for too long, and it's about time someone stepped in. I mean, can you imagine being stuck in a crowded cell with no decent sanitation or hygiene? It's just not right. 😷 The judge made the right call, and I hope ICE takes these demands seriously. This is what we need to see more of - people standing up for human rights and basic dignity. 👍

🤔 I'm low-key surprised this judge ordered ICE to improve those conditions 🚽💦. Like, we all knew things were rough at this facility, but a court order? That's a big deal 📊. Did you see the stats on detainees being held for over 2 years without trial? 😱 It's like they're just waiting for something to happen... 60% of them are asylum seekers 🤝 and we'd think that would give 'em some traction, right? 🚪

And can we talk about the FAA cutting flights for a sec? 🛫️ 10% reduction in service could mean 200,000 fewer passengers in December alone 📊. That's not just an inconvenience, it's a full-on economic hit 💸.

Oh, and did you catch Trump's speech in Miami? 🤦‍♂️ Some folks thought it was more like a campaign rally than a state of the union address 😂. Not sure what's going on with him, but it seems like he's getting his message mixed up 🗣️.

Stats on this, btw: 75% of Americans support stricter gun control laws 🏠🔫 and 40% think President Trump is doing a poor job managing the economy 💸. Not sure what that says about the state of our country...

ICE facility improvements aren't enough 🤔 I mean, can't they just get it right in the first place? Detainees are still being held in basically squalid conditions, like a joke. Clean bedding and showers every day should've been standard from the start... 🚿 Now we're seeing lawsuits and a judge's order because of it. It's all just so... preventable.

Ugh 😩 I'm so relieved to hear that ICE is finally going to improve its conditions at the facility in Broadview, Illinois! 🙌 Detainees have been speaking out about the harsh conditions they're being held in, and it's disgusting that it took a lawsuit for someone to take action. 🤯 The judge's order is a huge step forward, but I hope it doesn't just become another empty promise from ICE. 💪 We need to see real change happen ASAP! 🚨

Ugh 🤕 this is so frustrating... like, we know that ICE facilities are bad news, but it's crazy that it takes a lawsuit for someone to do something about it 🙄. And now they have to provide basic human necessities like clean bedding and showers every day? It's ridiculous that people had to take the government to court just to get some decent conditions at a detention center 🤯.

And can we talk about President Trump's latest comments on the election results? Like, what even is he saying anymore? 🙄 He's all over the place and it's hard to know what his actual message is. And those comments in Miami were just weird... like, attacking Democrats but then trying to sound supportive of Republicans? It's just not adding up 🤔.

And have you seen the FAA planning to cut 10% of flights at major airports? Like, that's going to affect so many people's travel plans 🚫. And the Republican party is suing over a redistricting measure in California? Come on, guys... get your act together and stop trying to manipulate elections 🙄.

Oh, and Representative Jared Golden deciding not to run for re-election because of how nasty it's gotten? Yeah, that makes sense 🤷‍♂️. It's time for some real change and a bit more civility in our politics 💬.

ICE facility in Broadview IL needs serious work 🤯, can't believe people are being held in such crappy conditions. overcrowding toilets and no showers every day is unacceptable 🚽💦. Glad the judge stepped in and ordered some changes. Now we just gotta hope they actually follow through on it 💪.

And Trump's comments on election results? More like confusing speeches than facts 🤔. Can't believe he thinks attacking Democratic leaders will help him win votes 😒. Newsflash, Donald: people are tired of your divisive rhetoric.

FAA cutting 10% of flights is gonna suck for travelers, especially during peak season 🚫😩. Hope they can work out a deal on the government shutdown ASAP. And nice move by Maine's Jared Golden to stand up against the negativity in politics 💪🏼. We need more people like him who are willing to speak truth to power 💬.

I'm just gonna say it... ICE facility conditions gotta change ASAP 🤯 like, come on, folks, humans need basic human rights too, you know? I mean, 10+ years of being locked up in those facilities with barely any sanitation or hygiene stuff is straight up cruel 😷. It's no wonder people are fighting back. Trump's comments lately are also weird... I don't get what he's trying to say sometimes 🤔 like, can we just have a serious conversation about the country without all the drama? And on a lighter note, who knew Jared Golden was leaving Congress in 2025? Guess it's gonna be an interesting election cycle 😊.

just heard about this, really weird that ICE had to be sued by detainees to get basic human rights lol 🤣...can't believe trump is still making public statements about the election results, it's like he's not taking no for an answer 😂...anyway, cutting 10% of flights at major airports due to a gov shutdown? that's just gonna mess up people's plans big time 🛫️...and those california redistricting maps...it's all just a game, but if it helps democrats flip seats, who am i kidding, they should be reaping the benefits 😊...jared golden not seeking re-election? maybe he was just tired of dealing with all that negativity in washington 🤦‍♂️

🐈💡 I'm like totally confused about this whole situation with ICE facility in Broadview, Illinois... how can they just ignore the detainees' complaints for so long? I mean, it's not like it's a brand new thing to be treated unfairly, right? 🤔 and now that the judge ordered them to improve conditions, what's gonna happen to people who can't even access basic hygiene products or showers every day? 🚽💦 it's just so sad... 🐈
