General shot in Moscow conscious after surgery, Russian media say

Russian Deputy Head of Military Intelligence Lt Gen Vladimir Alexeyev has regained consciousness after undergoing successful surgery following a shooting attack in Moscow, according to reports by Russian media. The 64-year-old general was shot several times in the chest and abdomen while on his landing in an apartment block in the north-western outskirts of the capital. He had been rushed to hospital in serious condition on Friday morning.

Doctors said that after undergoing surgery, Alexeyev was placed in a medically induced coma before regaining consciousness. "It can be cautiously stated that the threat to [Alexeyev's] life has passed", medical sources have reported. The general is the latest high-ranking military figure to be targeted near Moscow since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Two suspects are reportedly under arrest and will soon be taken for questioning, according to Russian officials who blame Kyiv for the attack. However, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha has denied involvement, saying that Kyiv had nothing to do with Friday's shooting.

The US has proposed talks between Moscow and Kyiv negotiators on American soil, "probably in Miami", according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The US wants the war to end by June, he added. However, there was no immediate comment from Washington or Moscow.

In recent months, several high-ranking Russian military officers have been targeted near Moscow, including a general who was killed when an explosive device detonated under his car in December. Ukrainian President Zelensky has claimed that Kyiv is responsible for some attacks on Russian military figures.

omg like i cant even imagine if lt gen alexeyev had died lol πŸ˜±πŸ’€ he's such a legend and now he's back to normal πŸ™ŒπŸΌ thanks god! so u think kyiv is behind this attack? πŸ€” i mean russian officials are saying that but ukraine denies it. ukrainian president zelensky seems pretty serious about ending the war tho πŸ’₯ maybe american soil in miami could be a good starting point for talks tho 🌴 btw dont forget about that general who died under his car last month πŸš—πŸ’£ its getting so crazy over there 😨

just saw that russia's deputy head of mil intel regained consciousness after being shot πŸ™, like what kinda messed up situation is this? 2 suspects under arrest tho, hope they get the people who did this πŸ€”. US wants talks between moscow & kyiv on american soil, probably to try and end the war by june πŸ•°οΈ. dont know if that's gonna happen or not, but someone gotta do something about all these attacks 😞.

omg what's goin on with russia tho? 🀯 first of all, glad to hear that lt gen alexeyev made it thru surgery and now he's wakin up! πŸ’ͺ but like, how many times can u shoot someone in the chest and abdomen before they're good? πŸ˜‚ sounds super intense. and now there's 2 suspects under arrest... is this just a coincidence or russia really thinkin kyiv did it? πŸ€” i dont know what to believe anymore. anyways, talks between moscow & kyiv negotiators? thats all we need right now. can we pls just get some peace in ukraine already?! πŸ™

OMG u guys!! 🀯 so Alexeyev just woke up from coma after serious surgery πŸ€• and ppl r saying he's stable now πŸ™ but I'm still trying to wrap my head around this πŸ€”. First, a general gets shot 4 times near Moscow 😱 and then another high-ranking officer is killed by an IED under his car in Dec πŸš—πŸ’£. It's like the US r trying 2 get involved in this conflict, but it's not clear if that's a good or bad thing πŸ€”.

anywayz, it's not like Ukraine would be dumb enough to try 2 kill Alexeyev themselves πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ, so I'm thinkin' it's probs someone else trying 2 send a message πŸ“¨. Moscow is blaming Kyiv but Ukraine is saying otherwise πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. US wants talks between them, but I don't know if that'll make a difference πŸ€”. What do u guys think? Should Russia & Ukraine just talk it out or keep fighting? 🀯

πŸ˜±πŸ™ OMG, this is such amazing news!!! I'm beyond relieved to hear that Lt Gen Vladimir Alexeyev has regained consciousness! 🀞 My thoughts are with him and his family during this tough time πŸ’•. It's heartbreaking to think about the violent attack he endured, but it's so great to know that he's getting better πŸ’ͺ. Can we PLEASE get more updates on the investigation? I want to know who's behind this and why πŸ€”. Keeping my fingers crossed for a peaceful resolution in Ukraine πŸŒˆπŸ’–

man πŸ˜… can't believe what's happening rn... i mean, 64 and almost gone to the big sleep πŸ€• but luckily he's back on his feet πŸ’ͺ after that surgery. got to wonder who pulled the trigger tho πŸ€” two suspects under arrest, maybe we'll get some answers soon πŸ™. US wants talks in Miami, sounds like a good start, fingers crossed for peace 🌈. and ukraine president Zelensky is all about ending the war by June πŸŽ‰ but i'm not holding my breath πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ still many uncertainties out there... let's keep our chins up 😊.
