Ghana arrests Nigerians accused of running cyber-crime networks in Accra

Nine Nigerians suspected of running cyber-crime networks have been arrested by Ghana's security forces in Accra. The operation, which took place over two days, also led to the detention and deportation of 44 other Nigerians who had been brought to Ghana under false pretences.

The authorities seized a total of 62 laptops, 52 mobile phones and two pump-action guns during the raids, which were carried out with intelligence-led cooperation from various agencies. The victims were found operating laptop computers in their respective apartments.

Ghana's Communications Minister, Sam George, stated that all the arrested individuals have been profiled and handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for safekeeping and further investigations. He also cautioned foreign nationals invited to Ghana to verify claims made by their fellow nationals who may be attempting to lure them into cyber-crime activities.

This latest operation follows a series of successful efforts by Ghana's authorities to flush out cyber-criminals, including working with US authorities to arrest high-profile suspects. In recent months, notable cases have included the arrest of Abu Trica, a Ghanaian social media influencer accused of stealing millions of dollars from vulnerable Americans through romance scams.

The arrests come as part of efforts by African countries to combat the growing trend of cyber-crime and to protect their citizens from online exploitation.

Ghana's got some serious skills when it comes to taking down cyber-crime networks 🀯. I mean, these guys were able to track down 9 suspected Nigerians in just two days? That's impressive πŸ’ͺ. It's also good to see they're working with other agencies and countries like the US to take down high-profile suspects. The fact that Abu Trica got caught is a big deal too - those romance scams can be super sneaky 🚫.

But, at the same time, 44 more Nigerians had to get deported? That's gotta be tough for them, and it raises questions about how they were even brought here in the first place. Was there some kind of exploitation going on? It's a bit of a double-edged sword, you know? Ghana's doing some great work against cyber-crime, but there are also human costs to consider πŸ˜•.

omg this is like something outta a bad rom-com - these Nigerian dudes get caught in Ghana having fake invite parties but instead of finding love they find pump-action guns lol meanwhile Ghana's all like "hey we gotchu" by working with the US on cyber-crime ops 🀣

I'm not buying it πŸ€”. I mean, 62 laptops and 52 mobile phones seized? That's a whole lot of gear for a couple of days' operation... sounds like a pretty big haul to me. And what about the "intelligence-led cooperation" from various agencies? Sounds like some old-fashioned police work to me πŸ˜’. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad these people are being taken off the streets, but let's not spin this as some kind of super-efficient cyber-crime-fighting operation just yet 🚫. There's gotta be more to it than meets the eye...

I'm so glad to see Ghana taking these guys down πŸ’ͺ🏽! It's crazy to think about how many people can be affected by cyber-crime and it's great that they're putting a stop to this stuff. I mean, who wants to fall victim to a romance scam or have their identity stolen? Not me, for sure! πŸ˜’

It's also super smart of them to work with other countries like the US to catch these guys. Like, you can't just sit back and let cyber-crime networks operate without any consequences 🚫.

I do hope that Ghana is doing a good job of supporting its own citizens who get caught up in this stuff. It's a lot to deal with, especially if they're already vulnerable. They need help and support, not just punishment πŸ€—.

Anyway, kudos to Ghana for taking action and making the world a safer place online πŸ’»!

omg what's going on with these cyber crime networks?? 🀯 I mean, Ghana is finally taking action and it's about time!!! πŸ’ͺ 62 laptops and 52 phones seized? That's a lot of gear for some serious cyber crimes πŸ˜‚. I'm glad they're working with the US authorities too, that's some top-notch collaboration 🀝. And to think these guys were luring people in with false pretences... that's just plain nasty πŸ’”. Ghana's communications minister is doing his job well, making sure everyone is on the same page about verifying claims and staying safe online πŸ“Š. We should all be supporting our governments in taking down cyber crime networks and protecting our citizens! πŸ‘

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this whole cyber crime thing... I mean, who knew it was such a big deal? πŸ˜• It's crazy that people can be scammed out of millions like that - especially vulnerable Americans πŸ™„. But at the same time, I feel bad for these 44 Nigerians who were brought to Ghana thinking they could make some easy cash. They're not even cyber criminals themselves! πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

I guess what's good is that Ghana's authorities are taking action and working with other countries to catch the bad guys. And it's cool that they're warning foreign nationals about fake invitations 🚫. I just wish we could all be more careful online and look out for each other a bit more... you know? πŸ‘

This is just crazy 🀯... all these cyber-crime networks just popping up outta nowhere! I mean, what's the deal with Ghana cracking down on this stuff? They're showing some serious dedication to keeping it safe for everyone. Those 62 laptops and 52 mobile phones must've been worth a pretty penny too πŸ’Έ.

You know back in my day... well, not really relevant but still πŸ™„... we didn't even have these kinds of scams, right? But now with the internet and all that, it's like an open book for cyber-thieves. And Ghana's taking notice, so fingers crossed they keep up the good work! The more countries that crack down on this stuff, the better off everyone is 🀝.

I'm just glad those innocent Nigerians got swept up in all this didn't get hurt too badly πŸ˜”. And kudos to Sam George for being on top of things – always talking about cyber-crime prevention now πŸ“£. More power to him and Ghana's security forces!

πŸ€” just another example of how cyber crime is affecting people's lives, Ghana's move is a step in right direction tho πŸ™Œ at least they're taking action instead of just talking about it πŸ’» gotta be careful with who we trust online & verify info before getting involved πŸ‘

I'm worried about these Nigerians who got caught up in a fake opportunity. They must've been lured with promises of easy money or a better life, only to end up as suspects in a cybercrime ring πŸ˜•. It's crazy how some people can be so deceived and end up putting their lives at risk.

I'm glad Ghana's authorities are taking action against these cybercriminals, but I wish they could've done more to protect the innocent Nigerians who got caught up in this mess πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. It's always easier said than done when it comes to stopping online scams, but Ghana's effort is a step in the right direction.

It's also good to see them working with other authorities to catch high-profile suspects like Abu Trica πŸ™Œ. But we need more awareness campaigns about how to spot these online scams and protect ourselves from falling victim. We can't just rely on law enforcement agencies to save us – we all have to be vigilant online πŸ‘€πŸ’»

🚨 this is super worrying πŸ€• these people were able to swindle so many americans out of millions 😳 and now they're going down πŸ’₯ but what's even more concerning is that they were able to target vulnerable ppl in the first place πŸ‘Ž it raises questions about how their scam was facilitated πŸ€” was it really just a simple romance scam or was there something more sinister going on? πŸ€‘ anyway, kudos to ghana for taking action and working with international authorities πŸ’― hopefully other countries can follow suit πŸ”’

Just got wind of this one! So 9 Nigerians caught running cyber crime nets in Ghana 🀯, and like 44 others deported too... that's a lotta people! But for real, how do these things happen? People come to another country thinking it's all rainbows and sunshine, only to get roped into some dodgy scheme πŸ˜’. And what's crazy is they were using laptops in their apartments... you'd think they'd be more careful than that πŸ€”.

Ghana's been cracking down on cyber crime for ages now πŸ’ͺ, and they're not afraid to work with other countries to get the bad guys 🌎. I'm all for it! Can't let scammers run amok everywhere. And it's good that Ghana's Communications Minister is warning others about this... maybe it'll prevent more people from falling victim 😊.

just read about this, its crazy how these guys thought they could just waltz into Ghana with fake invites πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ meanwhile they were running cyber crime networks 🚫 gotcha squad πŸŽ‰ also gotta give props to Ghana's authorities for working with the US on these high-profile arrests πŸ’― its clear they're taking this cybercrime thing seriously πŸ’»

Just what we need, more Nigerians getting pinched for scamming people outta their hard-earned cash. I mean, Ghana's all about protecting its people, so yeah, they're doing a great job πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ...or should I say, a 'great' job in the sense that they're keeping those cyber-scammers from getting away with our money? Anyway, 62 laptops and two pump-action guns, huh? Guess you could say Ghana's really 'arming' itself against cyber-crime πŸ’»πŸ”«.
