Hochul, AOC, Mamdani slam ‘we support Hamas’ chants at Queens protest: ‘Disgusting and antisemitic’

Pro-Hamas Chants Spark Outrage in New York City

New York Governor Kathy Hochul, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Mayor Zohran Mamdani have blasted a protest in Queens where pro-Hamas demonstrators chanted "we support Hamas" in front of a predominantly Jewish neighborhood. The chants were captured on video and quickly went viral, drawing swift condemnation from local leaders.

The protest saw pro-Hamas supporters waving Palestinian flags while chanting support for the terrorist organization. Hamas is designated as a terrorist group by the US government, and providing material support to such groups is prohibited under federal law.

Hochul shared the footage of the chants on social media, calling them "disgusting" and "dangerous". She accused Hamas of promoting genocide against Jews and stressed that such rhetoric has no place in New York City. Ocasio-Cortez also condemned the chants, labeling them as "basic" while emphasizing their antisemitic nature.

Mayor Mamdani defended public safety while upholding the constitutional right to protest. He emphasized that chants supporting a terrorist organization have no place in the city.

Meanwhile, New York Attorney General Letitia James expressed her disapproval of the chants on social media. Her message underscored that Hamas is considered a terrorist group by the US government and that support for such organizations is not tolerated in New York City.

The incident occurred amid tensions across the nation over protests related to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, which escalated on October 7, 2023. Protests have been erupting nationwide, with some calling for the repeat of a mass attack.

Representatives from Ocasio-Cortez and Mamdani did not respond to an interview request from Fox News Digital.

Ugh I'm so worried about the people who showed up at that protest 🤕 They were chanting this hateful stuff in front of a Jewish neighborhood, it's just so painful to think about... 😔 I feel like we're living in a time where hate can spread so fast and it's hard to know what to do with ourselves. It's not okay to support groups that promote violence against others, and I wish more people would speak out against this kind of rhetoric 💬 The fact that it's happening in NYC, which is supposed to be a beacon of hope and acceptance, is just devastating 🌆 Can we all just take a deep breath and try to be more understanding of each other? 🙏

🤯 I mean, can you believe what's happening in New York City?! 🗽️ These chants are just so messed up! 🚫 Like, I get that people have different opinions about Israel and Palestine, but supporting a terrorist organization is not okay 🙅‍♂️. And to see it happen right in front of a Jewish neighborhood? 😳 That's just disturbing.

I'm all for free speech and protesting, but there's a fine line between expressing your opinion and promoting hate 🤷‍♀️. We need to be careful about the language we use and the messages we spread 🔊. I wish people would think twice before saying something that could hurt others 💭.

As an American, it's heartbreaking to see this kind of division happening in our own country 🇺🇸. Can't we all just find common ground and respect each other's differences? 🤝

OMG, I'm literally still shaking thinking about this protest in Queens 🤯. Like, can't believe people would do that kinda thing right under our noses... and then they have the nerve to chant "we support Hamas" with those Palestinian flags waving around? 😡 It's just so antisemitic and genocidal, you know?! I mean, I get that tensions are high and all, but this is just low. As someone who's Jewish myself, it's really unsettling to see people being called out for their hate speech 🤔. Governor Hochul shared the footage on social media and I'm like "girl, yes!" 👍 She needs to be commended for standing up against that toxic rhetoric. And I feel bad for Mayor Mamdani having to deal with all this drama too 🤷‍♀️. We need more people like him who are willing to speak out against hate groups... anyway, I'm just gonna take a deep breath and try not to think about it anymore 😅.

🤦‍♂️ I think it's imperative that we acknowledge the gravity of this situation in New York City, where pro-Hamas chants sparked outrage among local leaders 🙅‍♂️. The fact that these chants were captured on video and went viral highlights the urgent need for civility and respect in public discourse 💬. As we navigate complex issues like the Israel-Hamas conflict, it's essential to approach such topics with empathy and understanding, rather than resorting to inflammatory rhetoric 🤔. By doing so, we can foster a more inclusive and respectful environment for all individuals, regardless of their background or ideology 🌎.

Ugh, what's wrong with these people?! 🤦‍♂️ Can't they see how hurtful those chants are? Like, come on, it's one thing to show support for Palestine, but supporting a group that's literally labeled as a terrorist org by the US gov is a whole different story. I mean, what's next, gonna start chanting "we love Al-Qaeda"? 😲 And don't even get me started on AOC and Mayor Mamdani not being more direct about condemning Hamas - it's like they're afraid of offending some people or something. 🤔 I remember when we used to have protests for civil rights back in my day, but those were about equality and justice, not spewing hate speech. This is just plain disturbing... 😒

🤦‍♂️ I'm kinda confused about these protests, you know? One day it's all love and unity, next day we're chanting support for a group that many people consider terrorist... 🤷‍♂️ I get where politicians are coming from, but what's the point of protesting if we're just gonna be inflammatory? Can't we find common ground without being so divisive? 😐 And what about free speech, though? Is supporting Hamas really okay to do in public, even if it makes some people uncomfortable? 🤔 We need a middle ground here... I'm all for standing up for what you believe in, but let's not be jerks about it. 🙅‍♂️

idk why ppl gotta make such vids go viral like dis 🤦‍♂️. like ok we get it, pro-Hamas chantin is bad, but do we really need a video of it? can't just have a convo about it without makin a whole vid for the world to see? 📹 and btw did they not know that chants like dat r illegal in NYC?! 🚫💸 anyway, looks like NYC's got a big problem on its hands... 73% of Jewish New Yorkers say anti-Semitism is 'a huge problem' 🤯 (source: NYU survey). and btw, Hamas is designated as a terrorist org by the US gov 🚨 (according to 2022 data, 85% of Americans believe this too 💡)

OMG, I'm so shocked by this 🤯 what's going on in NYC is just crazy! I mean, I get that people have the right to protest and express their opinions, but supporting a terrorist group like Hamas? That's just not okay 💔. I understand that there are two sides to every story and tensions between Israel and Palestine can be super high, but chants of support for Hamas in front of a Jewish neighborhood is just unacceptable 😡. I'm all about freedom of speech and expression, but when it comes to hate speech or promoting violence, we need to take a stand 💪. Can't we all just try to get along and respect each other's differences? 🤝

omg u gotta feel bad for that jewish neighborhood in queens 🤕, i mean those chants are super hurtful & antisemitic... but at the same time its crazy how fast ppl react when they see those vids go viral 😂, like kathy hochul shared it on social media & suddenly everyone's all outraged 🚫. and u know what? i think its actually a good thing that congresswoman ocasio-cortez spoke up too 💁‍♀️, cos some ppl mighta been more chill about it if she didnt call it out for what it is... antisemitism has no place in our society, but its also super important to acknowledge that there are ppl who dont understand the gravity of it all 🤔. maybe we can use this as an opportunity to have a bigger convo about tolerance & understanding? 💬

😕 I'm shocked by these chants in Queens, NY 🤯 The idea that pro-Hamas supporters think it's okay to show support for a group designated as a terrorist organization is just mind-boggling 🤔. I get that people have the right to protest and express themselves, but there's a fine line between freedom of speech and inciting hate or violence 💥. If Hamas is promoting genocide against Jews, shouldn't we be calling out this hate speech rather than condoning it? 🙅‍♂️ The fact that these leaders are now sharing footage of the chants on social media has really made me think about what's acceptable in our communities today 🤝🏽. Maybe we need to have a bigger conversation about the language we use and how we support (or don't support) organizations that promote hate or violence 💬.

lol cant believe whats happening in NYC right now 🤯. ppl are literally spouting hate speech on the streets and think its cool 🙄. whats next? "we support white supremacy" chants? 😱 no way, this is just a slippery slope and im so sick of politicians trying to be PC but not actually doing anything about it 🙅‍♂️. like what are we gonna do, march around with signs saying "we love terrorists"? 🤦‍♀️ come on people, use your heads! this isnt just about free speech its about being a decent human being 🌎. and btw, lets get real, if ur gonna protest, at least try to have some semblance of dignity 🙏. no more waving fake flags and chanting hate 🚫.

omg this is so crazy 🤯 i cant believe ppl are still cheering on Hamas like what kinda world r we living in?? its literally disgusting when u think about the hate they promote towards jewish people & theres gonna be more attacks happening cuz of this 🚫💔 NYC gotta do better than just condemning it & saying public safety is a concern, somethin needs to change ASAP 💪

🤕 this protest is super troubling - i mean, who chants "we support Hamas" in front of a Jewish neighborhood? 🙅‍♂️ it's like they don't care about the impact their words can have on people's lives. and to make matters worse, some ppl are saying that protests against Israel are just as bad as the attacks, but honestly, I think we need to be careful about who we're comparing to here... 🤔 Hamas has been designated a terrorist group for a reason. 🚫 it's not cool when ppl use social media to share hateful chants and expect no one to call them out on it. 📱 let's keep the conversation civil and focused on promoting peace, rather than hate 🕊️

omg is this seriously happening in nyc?? 🤯 how can ppl just chant support 4 a terrorist org like thats 2 normal?? i dont get it. i mean, isnt that kinda inciting hate or something? 🤔 anyway, cant believe our leaders r speakin out against dis stuff. kathy hochul and alexandria ocasiocortez both said somethin about how its NOT OK to support hamas in nyc. thats pretty clear 2 me lol. i dont think we should be toleratin' anythin that promotes hate or violence, especially not against jews 🤕

🤬 what's next? can't even protest without being labeled as antisemitic? 🤷‍♀️ we got more important issues like poverty, climate change & healthcare that need attention. this is just a symptom of a larger problem - our society's inability to have nuanced conversations about complex issues. 👎

I'm so worried about those Jewish people living in Queens. Seeing pro-Hamas chants like that just makes me feel so sad & angry at the same time... 😔🤕 What's going on with our world right now? Can't we all just get along & respect each other's differences? I know some people might see Hamas as a legitimate cause, but to me, it sounds like hate speech. 🚫💔 We need to be more understanding & open-minded, you know? 😊

😒 This protest is just another example of how extreme views can spark outrage in NYC. I mean, come on, waving Palestinian flags while chanting support for a terrorist group? It's not exactly subtle. 🙄 The fact that they're targeting a Jewish neighborhood makes it even more disturbing. Can't we just have peaceful protests without resorting to hate speech and promoting violence? It's not too much to ask for some basic decorum, especially when it comes to sensitive topics like this. 💁‍♀️

I'm totally livid about this protest in NYC 🤯🚫. Like, come on people, can't you just keep it civil? 😒 Chanting "we support Hamas" right in front of a Jewish neighborhood is not cool at all 🙅‍♂️. I get that there's tension between Israel and Palestine, but using chants like that to spark outrage isn't the way to go 🤦‍♀️.

I mean, Governor Hochul and Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez are totally on point for speaking out against this nonsense 💯. And let's be real, if you're gonna support a terrorist organization, you gotta own up to it 😬. Can't just hide behind a Palestinian flag 🇵🇸.

I'm all about free speech and public protests, but there's a fine line between expressing your opinion and inciting hatred 🔪. This protest crossed that line big time 🚨. I hope the mayor and others are keeping an eye on this situation 👀.
