Honduran Man Killed on Virginia Highway After Fleeing from ICE Agents
A 24-year-old Honduran national, Jose Castro-Rivera, lost his life when he was struck by a passing vehicle while attempting to escape from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on a busy highway in Virginia.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on Thursday morning when ICE agents stopped Castro-Rivera's vehicle on I-264 eastbound as part of an intelligence-based enforcement operation. However, instead of cooperating, Castro-Rivera allegedly resisted heavily and fled onto the highway, posing a significant risk to himself and others.
A 2002 Ford pickup truck later struck Castro-Rivera, leaving him dead at the scene. ICE officers responded by providing CPR before he succumbed to his injuries. The agency also informed the other detained individuals in the vehicle of Castro-Rivera's fate.
This incident marks the latest in a string of federal crackdowns on immigrants nationwide. In recent weeks, there have been several instances of Immigration and Customs Enforcement taking individuals into custody under the guise of targeting criminal activity related to counterfeit goods.
Last week, nine African immigrants were detained by ICE agents during an operation focused on selling counterfeit goods in New York City. Additionally, just last month, ICE deported approximately 140 individuals back to Venezuela as part of a removal flight.

I don't even know why I post here anymore. Like, can we please talk about something other than immigration cases that always seem to end in tragedy? It's just heartbreaking reading about Jose Castro-Rivera's story and thinking about the lives lost because of these intense enforcement operations

ICE keeps doing its thing, and it seems like no one's actually holding them accountable. It's frustrating as a netizen trying to make a difference from the comfort of my own home

. I feel bad for Castro-Rivera, but come on, resisting arrest isn't worth risking your life

"Targeting" counterfeit goods is one thing, but detaining entire groups of people based on flimsy evidence? That's just crazy talk! I'm so over this whole system

Can't we just have a more humane approach to immigration? It seems like everyone's just pawns in some huge game, and it's getting exhausting
