A 23-year-old undocumented immigrant has been arrested in Texas after posting a threat on TikTok calling for the murder of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. The suspect, Eduardo Aguilar, allegedly offered $10,000 to anyone who was willing to take out an ICE agent.
According to federal authorities, Aguilar posted a video on TikTok last October that included two skull emojis, which are commonly used to represent death in Spanish-speaking countries. In the video, he threatened to kill 10 ICE agents in Dallas and offered $10,000 to each person who would carry out the killing.
Aguilar was arrested by law enforcement in Texas after a tip from the public led them to his location. At the time of his arrest, authorities found a loaded 9mm handgun in Aguilar's vehicle, which is a felony offense in the US.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) says that Aguilar entered the country illegally in 2018 as an unaccompanied minor and was ordered to be deported by an immigration judge two years later. The DHS says that the threat made on TikTok could have cost American lives and that agents are facing increased threats due to their work enforcing immigration laws.
Aguilar has a history of violating liquor laws and other crimes in the US, according to the DHS. He is now facing federal charges and could face up to five years in prison if convicted.
