India ‘examining’ Bangladesh extradition request for convicted ex-PM Hasina

India is Scrutinizing Bangladesh's Request for Extradition of Convicted Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The Indian government has announced that it is examining a request from Bangladesh to extradite its former prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, who was recently sentenced to death in absentia over a crackdown on a popular uprising. The 78-year-old fled to India after being ousted as the country's leader last year following widespread protests.

In response to the latest extradition request, an Indian spokesperson stated that his government remains committed to ensuring peace and stability in Bangladesh while also engaging constructively with all stakeholders. However, it is uncertain whether New Delhi will agree to hand over Hasina.

The Bangladesh government has repeatedly called on India to extradite its former leader, citing a bilateral extradition treaty signed in 2013 as the basis for their request. The country's foreign ministry described allowing her to remain in India as an "obligatory responsibility" and a "grave act of unfriendly behaviour."

However, experts say that it is highly unlikely that India will agree to extradite Hasina, arguing that the case against her is politically motivated rather than based on genuine concerns about crimes against humanity. The Indian government has refused to hand over Hasina despite multiple requests from Bangladesh.

The situation highlights ongoing tensions between the two nations, particularly with regards to their respective governments and the fate of former leaders like Hasina. As Bangladesh prepares to hold its first general election in years, the question of whether India will cooperate with the country's extradition demands remains a contentious issue.

Indian gov is being super cautious here 🤔. I mean, if Bangladesh really thinks the case against Sheikh Hasina is legit, they should provide more evidence than just citing that bilateral treaty from 2013. It's all about politics and who's got the upper hand in this situation 🤑. If New Delhi doesn't want to cooperate, it's probably because they don't want to rock the boat and strain relations with Bangladesh further 😬. And let's be real, we're only hearing one side of the story here 👂. Bangladesh is trying to hold onto power, and India isn't having it 🙅‍♂️. It's all about who gets to shape the narrative in this situation 💡.

I dont think it would be fair on india to just extradite Sheikh Hasina just cuz bangladesh is asking. i mean has she even committed any crime on indian soil? seems like bangladesh is just trying to use this as leverage against india cuz they're not happy about the situation in their country. and whats with this death sentence, doesnt seem right. india needs to think carefully before making a decision here

omg u wont believe what's goin on here 🤯 india is all like "we'll think about extraditing hasina" while bangladesh is like "dude come on just hand her over already" 🙄 it feels like they're playin both sides against each other. i mean, whats the real motive? is it really just about extradition or is there somethin more goin on? 🤑 what if india knows somethin we dont? 🤔 maybe hasina's trial was rigged from the start and india is tryna protect her cuz it doesnt want another bangladesh-style uprising in its own backyard. 🚨 i'm tellin u, this extradition thing is just a smokescreen for somethin much bigger...

I don't get why india is being so slow about extraditing hasina lol 🤔. I mean, the guy was found guilty and sentenced to death for crimes against humanity... it doesn't make sense that she can just chill in india forever 🙄. Bangladesh has already asked like 3 times and india is still dragging its feet 🕰️. It's like they're trying to make a big deal out of this or something 😒. I think the bangladeshi gov should try talking to some other countries like china or something that might be more willing to help them out 🤝

I feel bad for Sheikh Hasina, she should've stayed in her own country and faced the consequences if she did something wrong 🤔. It's not fair that she's being held to different standards than others in Bangladesh. The Indian government needs to make up its mind, is it really about peace and stability or are they just covering their backs? 😐 I think India should at least consider extraditing her to let Bangladesh deal with its own problems. But on the other hand, if the case against her is really as weak as experts say, then why should she be handed over? 🤷‍♀️

I'm literally freaking out over this news 🤯... like I've been following this story for ages and it's just so frustrating! You know how Sheikh Hasina fled to India after being ousted? Well, my ex and I were actually friends with her sister and we saw her in person last year when she was hiding in Delhi. We didn't even know at the time because we were still in a relationship 😂... anyway, it's crazy to think that her sister would be so close to someone who's basically being protected by India.

And can you believe Bangladesh is asking for her extradition again? Like, I get why they want her but it feels like India is just making things harder than they need to be. My friend's cousin has a connection with the Indian government and he said that if Hasina was extradited, it would totally rock the boat 🌪️... we're basically talking about a major coup or something.

Ugh, I don't even know what to think anymore 😩. On one hand, you feel for Bangladesh wanting justice, but on the other hand, India is being super stubborn. It's just so complicated and I wish they could resolve this already 🙄...

.. this whole thing is so emotional for many people 🤕 especially those who love and support Sheikh Hasina. It's heartbreaking to think that she's being held captive by Bangladesh just because they don't like her views or actions anymore. I'm sure it's not easy for her family and friends to see her in such a difficult situation 😔.

I also feel sorry for India, though - they're caught between helping their friend Bangladesh and not wanting to get involved in all this politics 🤝. It's like they're stuck in the middle of two very different stories 💭.

But what really gets me is how it shows us that power and politics can be so destructive 🌪️. If only leaders could talk things through instead of resorting to extradition requests... maybe we'll learn from this too one day 💕.

I think it's weird that India is being super diplomatic about this whole thing 🤔. Like, they're saying all these nice things, but at the end of the day, if Bangladesh wants her extradited so bad, maybe they should just put in a proper request and not make a big deal out of it 🙄. It's like, we get it, you want your former PM back, but is this really necessary? 🤷‍♂️ The whole situation with the extradition treaty from 2013 seems kinda shady to me 🤑. I mean, what if India doesn't think Hasina committed any real crimes? Shouldn't Bangladesh be looking into their own records rather than just going after someone who's already out of power 🕵️‍♀️?

I feel really bad for Sheikh Hasina, she was ousted from power and now she's being asked to face trial back home... it's like her own people are turning against her 😔. I don't think it's fair that India is even being asked to extradite her, considering how many other countries just let her stay in the first place 🤷‍♀️. And what really gets me is that Bangladesh keeps saying it's a bilateral treaty, but if that were true, wouldn't India be more willing to help out a fellow Asian country? I mean, can you imagine if the shoe was on the other foot and India was facing similar extradition requests from Bangladesh? 🤔

🤔 India's stance on extraditing Sheikh Hasina is super interesting, imo. On one hand, you gotta respect their concerns about her being sought for crimes committed against humanity. I mean, she was ousted from office after protests got pretty intense, so that's a pretty serious allegation. But on the other hand, it feels like Bangladesh is trying to use this as leverage to get India to support their general election, and that's kinda shady. 🤑

I'm also kinda curious why they're not just saying no straight out? It's not like it's gonna hurt their reputation or anything. They could just be playing the diplomatic game, trying to balance their commitment to peace with Bangladesh while also not being seen as too soft on political figures who might be, you know, committing human rights abuses.

Anyway, this whole thing is a major headache for both countries, and I'm sure it'll be a major talking point in the lead-up to that election. Fingers crossed they can resolve it without things getting too heated 😬

I'm low-key surprised that Bangladesh is still pushing for Sheikh Hasina's extradition 🤔. I mean, I get why they want her back, but it feels like they're using this as a way to shift attention away from their own politics. India's not going to hand her over just because Bangladesh wants her 😐. The whole thing smells like a power play to me. What's really going on here? Is Bangladesh trying to use Hasina as a bargaining chip for better relations with India? 🤝 Either way, it's creating a lot of tension between the two countries and I'm not sure how this is all gonna get resolved 💸

ugh this is getting ridiculous 🤯 india needs to just make up its mind already... extradite her or don't? it's been months since she's been living here and now they're playing games over it? 🙄 hasina was ousted for a reason, not because the gov was wrong but maybe because of some shady stuff that came out during the protests 🤔 and now india is just going to hold her hostage? meanwhile bangladesh is like "come on guys make a decision already" 🤷‍♀️

ugh i dont get why india cant just make up its mind 🤦‍♂️ about extraditing sheikh hasina already. like, theyve been saying no multiple times and bangladesh is still asking for her to be handed over. it feels like india is playing games here 👀. and whats with the whole "obligatory responsibility" thing? sounds like just an excuse for india to avoid taking responsibility for their own actions 🙄. and whats interesting is that experts say the case against her is politically motivated... hmm maybe india knows a thing or two about that 😏. anyway, this extradition request thingy just shows how complicated and messy relationships between countries can get 💔.

I'm not sure how long India is gonna keep Sheikh Hasina safe 🤔. I mean, I get that they don't wanna let her go just yet, but Bangladesh is still pretty frustrated about it. It feels like there's this whole lot of politics going on here and nobody's really willing to talk about the real reasons behind all this. India says it wants to keep peace and stability in Bangladesh, but meanwhile Hasina's got a death sentence hanging over her head 💀. I think India should just give her a chance to face justice or at least be honest with them about what's going on - all these denials aren't really helping anyone 🙅‍♂️.

I'm so worried about Sheikh Hasina's situation 😬. It's like India is playing politics with her life. I don't think they'll extradite her just because Bangladesh wants it, especially when the case against her seems pretty suspect. It's all about protecting their own interests and maintaining good relations with Bangladesh, but at what cost? 🤝 The fact that experts say the extradition request is politically motivated makes me even more concerned. What if this is a way for India to influence Bangladesh's politics or suppress dissenting voices? That's not right 🙅‍♂️.

I've got friends who live near the border and they're always saying how tense it is between the two countries 🌃💔 I think it's like when you're stuck in traffic with your sibling, you can't escape each other! India and Bangladesh need to chill out and focus on helping their people rather than getting all worked up over politics 🤯. It's crazy that Hasina has been sentenced to death and now she's hiding in India 🚫. If they really think there's evidence against her, maybe they should have tried to gather it before she left 🕰️.

🤔 this whole thing is so complicated i feel bad for hasina but at the same time i don't blame india for being cautious she was ousted after some pretty violent protests and now bangladesh wants her to face trial in their courts which seems kinda harsh 🙅‍♂️ anyway i think india's stance on extradition is fair considering the whole political climate of bangladesh right now and let's not forget that india has its own interests too 🤝 what do you guys think? should bangladesh just forgive and forget or are they justified in wanting her to face trial?

I don't get why India is being so cagey about extraditing Sheikh Hasina 🤔👀... I mean, she was sentenced to death back home and all, but isn't that just Bangladesh asking for her to face justice? It feels like there's more politics at play here than a genuine desire to see her serve time. India's got a history of being super protective of its own citizens, especially when it comes to leaders, so I'm guessing they're just playing hardball to avoid ruffling any feathers 🤷‍♂️...

this is getting out of hand... india and bangladesh have been friends for decades why can't they sort this out between themselves? it just looks like bangladesh is trying to use hasina as leverage to get india on their side... or maybe hasina is using her influence to try and gain some sympathy abroad lol either way, this whole thing is super messy
