Hamas has delivered a body it claims is one of its hostages, which Israel says was handed over to them by the Red Cross. The Israeli military had been demanding the return of all the deceased hostages under a ceasefire deal brokered by the US.
The body was transported from Gaza and returned to Israel for formal identification. This move comes after Hamas has handed over 20 living hostages and 12 out of 28 deceased hostages in accordance with the agreement. However, the Israeli military claims that Hamas still owes it all of the bodies of its captives.
Despite the progress made under the ceasefire deal, which has also seen Israel release 250 Palestinian prisoners and 1,718 detainees from Gaza, deadly violence flared up on Sunday as both sides accused each other of breaching the agreement.
