Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has issued a stern warning to Stephen Miller, the president's deputy chief of staff for policy and homeland security adviser, stating that he will be held accountable for his actions.
Pritzker's comments were made during an interview with MSNBC host Jen Psaki, in which he emphasized that while former President Donald Trump may have broad immunity from prosecution, those serving under him do not share the same protection. "They're not always going to be in office," Pritzker said, indicating that members of his administration can and will be held accountable.
Pritzker singled out Miller as a key figure behind the scenes driving immigration policy, stating that he is advising high-ranking officials at the Department of Homeland Security, including Governor Kristi Noem, and serving as the primary spokesperson for the White House's border initiatives. The governor also warned that even if accountability may not be immediate, Miller should know that his actions will be documented and remembered by future administrations.
Pritzker described Miller as a "dangerous individual" who is able to wield significant power due to Trump's diminished capacity to rein him in. He noted that while the Supreme Court has provided Trump with immunity from prosecution, this protection does not extend to members of his administration.
In essence, Pritzker's comments signal that he will not let Miller and other administration officials escape accountability for their actions. As a Democrat who has long criticized Trump's immigration policies, Pritzker is taking a stance to ensure that those responsible for chaos on the streets of Chicago, Illinois are held accountable for their roles in the endeavor.
