Former Yankees Top Prospect and Mariners Player Jesús Montero Dies at 35

Jesús Montero, a highly touted pitching prospect who never quite lived up to his full potential in the major leagues, has passed away at the age of 35. Montero was best known for his time with the New York Yankees, where he was once considered one of the top prospects in baseball.

Montero's journey to the big leagues was marked by promise and disappointment. He made his professional debut with the Yankees' Rookie League team at just 17 years old and quickly worked his way up through the minor league ranks. In 2011, he made his major league debut with the Yankees, but struggled to find consistency, batting just .280 with three home runs in 33 games.

Despite the struggles, Montero was considered one of the top prospects in baseball at the time, ranking as high as No. 3 on both Baseball America and Baseball Prospectus' lists. However, he was traded from the Yankees to the Seattle Mariners in January 2012 as part of a deal that landed Michael Pineda and Jose Campos.

Montero spent five seasons with the Mariners, hitting .247 with a .668 OPS and 24 home runs in 208 games. He also played for the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles, but never saw significant time at the major league level with either team.

Tragically, Montero's life was cut short in a motorcycle accident in Venezuela earlier this month. He was put into a coma and later died as a result of his injuries.

The Yankees organization has released a statement expressing their condolences to Montero's family and loved ones. "The Yankees are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jesús Montero," they said. "We send our sincerest condolences to his family & loved ones."

Montero's death is a reminder that even the most promising athletes can have their lives cut short by tragic circumstances. He will be remembered for his talent and potential, but also for the brief time he had in the major leagues.

Man, just heard about Jesús Montero's passing 🤕😢... I mean, what a bummer! You're telling me this guy was a top prospect, made it to the big leagues at 17, and still had so much potential left? It's just heartbreaking. And to think he never quite found his groove and ended up struggling in the majors... 🤦‍♂️

I'm trying to process everything here... Montero's story is a reminder that life's unpredictable, you know? One minute you're on top, next minute it's gone 💥. I hope his family can find some solace in knowing he lived an amazing life, even if it was cut short.

You know what? I'm gonna make sure to prioritize my own life and make the most of every moment 🕒💪. Montero's passing is a harsh reminder that we gotta cherish our time on this earth...

Baseball's lost another promising talent. Hope his family finds some comfort in the community that loved him for his passion 💕 [ GIF of people hugging ]

💔 Another talented life lost far too soon... I think what's really sad about Montero's story is how he never got to realize the full extent of his abilities due to inconsistent performance. 🤕 His potential was evident from a young age, but struggles in the majors made it difficult for him to make a lasting impact. 😔 At 35, he still had so much life and baseball left ahead of him... It's a sobering reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of living each day to the fullest 🌞

Man, it feels like just yesterday I was watching Montero dominate on the mound as a prospect with the Yankees... 🤦‍♂️ Now he's gone way too soon at 35? That's crazy talk! It's like, what even happened to all those promising prospects from the early 2010s? Did we really see their full potential or was it just a flash in the pan? Montero got the hype, but never quite delivered... 😔 Anyway, can't believe he's gone. R.I.P. 🚴

Man, this is like so sad 🤕. Jesús Montero was always touted as a future star, but it seemed like injuries and struggles held him back from reaching his full potential 😔. I mean, who doesn't love a good underdog story? But at the same time, you can't help but feel for the guy's family, especially during this tough time 🤗. The Yankees were really supportive of him when he was with them, and it's great to see they're releasing a statement showing their condolences 🙏. It's just another reminder that even the pros aren't immune to tragedy 💔. Montero will always be remembered for his talent, but also for the impact he had on fans like me who were rooting for him 😢.

man... 35 years old? it's like, you're just getting started on your life, your career, your everything 🤕jesús montero was one of those guys who had the whole world at his feet, and then... nothing happens. no injuries, no family issues, just a freak motorcycle accident in venezuela 😱it's crazy how quickly it can all end like that. we should be celebrating his life, not mourning his passing 💔he will always be remembered as that guy who was gonna be huge, but never quite got there 🤦‍♂️anyway, r.i.p montero 👍

🤕 just heard about Jesús Montero passing away at 35 it's crazy how fast time flies in baseball, you're in the league, making the big bucks, then suddenly it's like that was all a dream 🌙 and now he's gone too soon... I remember watching him play for the Yankees back in the day, had so much potential but just couldn't seem to put it all together 🤦‍♂️ still sad to see someone with so much promise leave us too soon 💔

😔 just heard about Jesús Montero passing at 35... what a shame, was always hyped up to make it big in baseball 🤕 those minor league struggles still linger in my mind lol remember him being ranked that high as prospect? guess all that promise came with some risk 💔 5 yrs in Mariners' system didn't quite pay off like they wanted 😐 still sad 2 c his life cut short, hope his family finds closure 👍

😔 That's so sad man... Jesús Montero was like a flash in the pan, you know? He had all that hype around him as a kid, and then it just faded away. I remember watching him play when he first came up with the Yankees, and he looked so promising. But the thing is, baseball's a brutal sport, and sometimes even with all the talent in the world, it just doesn't work out.

You know what's crazy though? He left us way too soon 🤯. A motorcycle accident in Venezuela... that's just awful. My condolences to his family and loved ones, for sure. Montero may not have lived up to everyone's expectations, but he was still a talented player who deserved better than this 💔.
